UPS Hold For Pickup

This is a great thread and answered, or at least addressed, some of the same questions/concerns I had. For those of you just joining the thread, the summary of conventional wisdom so far seems to be that switching delivery to a UPS Customer Care center, while not the closest option for many, is likely the best in that it shouldn't delay the delivery. Having it delivered to a UPS store may delay delivery. So, if you don't want to take a chance on the delivery being delayed by a day or more, have it held at the UPS Customer Care Center or just leave things as they are and wait patiently at home for the regular UPS delivery. Best of luck to you everyone.

I had originally ordered a pickup at a UPS CC but changed my mind back to delivery and called UPS to cancel after reading some of the horror stories about not being able to pick up if the ID address doesn't match the delivery address. Can anyone who's picking up in store confirm what their UPS page says under "shipping information"? does it have your UPS CC or a home address? Thanks!
It may be YMMV but I picked up multiple times from my local UPS CC for a whole year with mismatching address and first name.

They gave me **** over the address being different on my drivers license when I picked something up last December. They even had a big sign that said "if delivery address doesn't match driver license address they cannot release the package" or something along those lines. I still got it but it's not something I would want to gamble with the X.

Changed mine to hold. Will be available for pickup from 3pm-6pm Friday!

I had to switch mine to be Held at a UPS Store for Pickup and I asked them to clarify if I will get a delay or not. This is what I got but YMMV.

"Because your request has been made before the package is out for delivery, the package should not experience any delays."

Hey friends, been watching this thread the most! I have 3 CC centers in my area (Dallas.) How do I know which one is "mine?" Is it the one that pops up on the UPS app when I go to change delivery or should I call to be sure?

Also, I was going through the steps on the app to change delivery options to pick up and when I click on a close UPS store it wants me to hit submit before I can see if it changes the date to the 6th. If I hit submit will it show me and I can cancel immediately if it pushed it to Monday? Phone is in Honk Kong still if that makes a difference.

I’m in Dallas and had the same question. Ended up going with the CC by DFW airport. Confirmation page said it’ll be ready for pickup on Friday.

Also, use the actual site on a computer and it’ll show you a review page with the pickup date before you submit it.

I started a chat session and gave them my shipping number and they told me the one that my phone would be going through

When I go to put a hold on my phones the only "warning" I get is this "A government issued photo ID is needed to pick up the shipment. If you are picking up the shipment and are not the addressee you will also be required to provide the tracking number."

If the location is going to give me flak for the addresses not matching then so be it, but if they don't even care if my name is the same so long as I have the tracking number, I'm taking my phones home with me.

Holding at a UPS store always delays pick up 1 business day. You can only make that kind of request before it goes on the truck so you were misinformed.

Not if they dont give the phones to you... What's the backup plan if they refuse to give them over? I presume they'd be sent back to apple because it's not like you can suddenly ask them to deliver the phones to you because now they know the addresses don't match.

Did it stay on Friday delivery or change to Monday?

I selected the CC that's opens at 3p which is a mile from my house so it kept the Friday delivery. If I selected the one thats 15 miles but opens at noon would of changes to Monday

If, in the very unlikely case that I don't leave with them, I will just remove the hold and they will be delivered on Monday.

I don't believe this is true as I've had this exact scenario with different packages in the past. I just wanted to see if they have a definite answer for iPhone Friday. Some saw a delay, and some didn't. That is why I said YMMV but I will check back here on Friday and let you all know what happens.

Have you tried to remove the hold? I haven't been able to from my UPS my choice account ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I did call and the support guy said he'd put a note on it to cancel the hold but It's not reflected in UPS my choice

I dont mean to antagonize I'm just hoping there's an option here that I didnt see in the very offhand chance that we're unable to pick up our phones aka have them get lost in the matrix!

Yes, I removed a hold on the UPS package last week.

Wow UPS system is pretty quick. I just changed to Hold for Pickup for 2 of the X since it just departed Alaska and UPS already updated it to available to pick up from 11/3 to 11/9. Even gave a confirmation.

This is false.
I've never seen it not cause a 1 business day delay in pickup date if it is a UPS retail store. The website even tells you its gonna happen before submitting the request. Only pickup at a CC depot will allow for same day pickup.

Well that was no good...rerouted it and asked for specification on delivery date to a store right by my house and this...

Said that she was unable to at the time. I'm assuming because mine is still out of the country in Honk Kong. Now it's showing "Exeption" with a "!" by it

My experience with UPS Store holds is the opposite. The package gets delivered to the store during the first half of the day with the business deliveries. I'm not saying it can never be delayed, because I've seen people say their package has been delayed but to say it always gets delayed is false.

I was under the impression (could be wrong) that to redirect anywhere, may cause a delay of a day. Having it held at the depot is not a redirect.

Now, I heard this a few places, but things may have changed.

Yeah, it absolutely does not always get delayed. I hold packages at my local UPS Store all the time and the delivery date doesn't change. Obviously this isn't everyone's case, but to say it guarantees a delay isn't true.
