That's my take, too. I was really close to ordering silver. I actually had both silver and orange ready to go. I'm glad I went with orange.

The 17 absolutely will come with iOS 26 on it. The new phones have typically always come with the new OS. Now there might be a day-1 update to something like 26.0.1, but it’ll at least have 26.0.

I would upgrade to 26. There are optimizations in every iOS version that will make for a better migration, based on past experience. And likely the migration will carry the processing and re-indexing that your current phone will be doing over to the new phone.
I am hoping to find information before Friday with the optimal migration method. I have generally used the iCloud backup restore, but I have a fast Thunderbolt 5 (USB-C) cable that could be used between phones, or between new phone and encrypted backup of current iPhone on my Mac.
edit: Reading CodeSpyder's comment above I forgot to mention that the new phone will almost certainly require an upgrade before or with the migration. It will be interesting to see if the ISPU units have been updated in their boxes while in the store as some have speculated will be happening at some point with advances in device management.

100% it will come with ios26, unlikely the release version from today, and maybe there will be a .01 version ...

Not to worry. Been though this many times and Apple will get your phone to you on the day promised. It is different this year as our phone are stateside and not in China or India. They suppress tracking as a favor to the shipped. Guess they are tired of everyone “hammering” their tracking site.Me
My 16 Pro that I picked up on release day last year was manufactured in July.
I seem to remember vaguely — maybe from the Apple event last year? — that Apple was going to ship more things via cargo ship vs air to cut down on carbon usage. I wonder if at least some of these phones came that way. Two months or so does seem like a bit of a stretch, though.
There is a new iOS out this afternoon. Wait on this if migrating your current phone to a new one.

You can with UPS My Choice. I’ve had tracking data from China over many iPhone purchases.
