For the past year, I've been promising myself that this would be the year that I wouldn't migrate my phone and would start from scratch. For goodness sake, my iPhone backup started on the iPhone (2007) and has made its way through the 3G(S), 4S, 5S, 6S, X, 11Pro, 12Pro, and now my 14Pro. Without question, there has to be corruption and other digital sludge in there from eighteen years of use. But it seems so overwhelming to start over that I'll probably just migrate the darned thing again.

Anyone else started from scratch? How painful was it? How'd you transfer the stuff you couldn't just recreate?
I don’t really see a reason not to carry over, to tell the truth. People talk about things running smoother when they start from scratch, but I think it’s a placebo effect. I’ve also been migrating since the 3Gs.

Same. I did redo things in year two of owning the 3G I believe, but otherwise, yeah. There’s no way I’m redoing everything at this point.

Never? Uh, then how did myself and MANY others on this forum over the past many years get tracking from the moment when pallets of devices left ZhengZou, China

Tracking by reference does not count as the official tracking from the manufacturer. As fart as Apple is concerned, they have never supplied tracking #s until the phones have been scanned in the US. [or local]

Using the reference number will give you the tracking number associated with it. You then use that tracking number to track your package just like any other. We've always been able to use that to track our phones long before apple officially supplied a tracking number.
And that tracking number you got early by using the reference number is the same tracking number apple will provide you several days later.

My first iPhone was an iPhone 3G. I still run off the backup from then. (3G, 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 6s, 7, 13PM o_O *my rapid phone changes were when I worked at Apple*) I think the only digital sludge is with iMessages with some ancient texts as again, I've never cleared these. My phone is just a digital data dump of my past.

Could I setup as new? Ehhhh yes? If I think about it, its just messages that hold me back. I have messages and voicemails from my parents who both passed 5 years ago which I still have stored and they'll be the hardest thing to lose. Beyond that, photos are in photo library and most apps store their data separately in iCloud anyway.

From what I recall from my Genius days, user data is separate from iOS system data so any corruptions are kept in the app it is linked to. I probably still have one of the keynotes I used for the Grow Your Own Genius training sessions I used to deliver, standby why I venture down memory lane and find it.

*EDIT* - Found and attached.

They have Messages on iCloud now. No need to restore from backup for those. Not sure about the voicemails.

True... I would need another phone to log in to first to see how everything is presented. Again, some messages from people I've not spoken to in 10 years I wouldn't care here or there if I had them.

Voicemails I have saved the audios anyway and thanks to visual voicemail, seem to stay on the handset even when updating.

hey guys. with the international model i.e. the nano sim + e-sim model, can i use two e-sims simultaneously without using any nano-sim?

People who have been doing this for years have had this experience. Yes some people don't get tracking till closer to release as well. This is the first year I have not seen tracking within a few days. This is just my experience was all I was saying.
Case in point—the year of the typhoon…

Thank you! I am really tempted both by the sienna and the green to go with my orange Pro. I just worry about bulk. I use a pretty thin case on my 16PM now. I have been thinking about going caseless, not sure i am that brave though.
Go Caseless. Add AppleCare for peace of mind. Once you take off your case and get comfortable, you won't go back...
