too early to tell of course, for me it's only a day and it's still brand new ;)
Only time will tell
Yeah I figured it will be 2-6 months before we see how durable they are. Looks fantastic though!
17 Pro Max, otterbox defender clear case
Looks fantastic! I am not an orange fan but it looks nice. I just dislike how the apple logo is way off.
I've been reading on Reddit that people have to sign for them. Its nice to have validation for when my Air arrives Tuesday.

I didn’t have to sign, but I think UPS may have different standards from location to location. So, yeah, it’s always best to be prepared to sign. I had no idea if I’d have to or not. Some years I’ve had to, other I haven’t.

I have had to sign when I got my 14 Pro Max from Xfinity mobile, but my 15PM from TMobile I did not have to sign for. My parents didn't have to sign for their 15 series when they ordered theirs from TMobile also. I wonder if its a carrier thing or if Apple makes the call?

Apple ships the iPhone as Indirect Signature required. That means the driver is supposed to confirm someone takes physical receipt of the delivery. The last couple of years my UPS delivery driver just ask to confirm the name on the box.

Some drivers choose to skip the Indirect Signature, and just drop it off, and type the last name from the label into their Delivery Information Acquisition Device (DIAD).

I wonder if its a carrier thing or if Apple makes the call?
Yes each company makes their own decision but Apple ships them as Indirect Signature required.

I ordered from Apple, and my UPS details did not say signature required. If ordering from a carrier, if the carrier is the sender, they can make that call, I would think.

I think UPS can also choose to require it, even if the sender doesn’t.

I left a note when ups showed up the first time asking to leave package at door and they wouldn’t. Said I had to be there to sign

The iPhones did have an iOS update available, perhaps that would help as the shipped version was a month or so old.

Also, i usually do a hard reset after setting up a new phone, just one of my standard procedures when setting up or updating any of my devices.
I usually a on/off after a software update, what does a hard reset do that on/off doesn't?

My ISPU wasn't until tomorrow afternoon, but we got back into town early from the trip that kept me away on launch day. I went into the Apple Store and asked if I could pick up anyway and they let me on in. I'm on iUP and they took my trade in and wiped it pretty quick, before I had a chance to finish setting up the new phone, so of course my eSim wanted me to have my old phone to transfer it. Had to call T-Mobile when I got home, but it was only a 7 minute phone call and I was connected.

Now I am getting used to the smaller size of the Pro, having had a new Pro Max every year since the 12.

It is nothing more then the equivalent of pulling the power cord vs a normal software controlled shut down sequence. I only use a hard reset when the iPhone is frozen, and will not respond to normal inputs.

Dave
So software shut down is technically a bit better than on/off?

It is not really better but is the normal process unless your iPhone is unresponsive. That is what we call On/Off. A forced reboot is just that a forced reboot.

Dave
Ah ok . . . I remember that iOS (or maybe it was called simply iPhone OS, can't recall) at one time didn't have a Shut Down menu option

I did the in store pickup this afternoon for my blue pro max. Everything went well, they asked me not to wipe my old phone until the new phone starting the data restore process, because old phone needs to be on to make the carrier switchover. After that the lady at Apple Store told me to leave my old phone with them and they will wipe the data. This was 3 hours ago, and I’m still seeing my old phone in that apple store from the Find. Is this the new process now? Before I remember I would erase the phone myself while at the store.

Anyone else seeing this when logging into UPS?

I use Google as my authentication instead of an email address + password. Not sure if that's related.

Seeing this error on both Safari and Chrome.

I just tried erase it remotely in Find, and now it’s stuck in “Erase Pending”.
It is not stuck in Erase Pending. It just means that your iPhone is not currently online on the internet. Maybe the tech got to it and started the wipe or they turned off the store guest Wi-Fi. What time zone are you in?

Today went mostly smooth. I was able to pick up my phone and case quickly. I did the trade-in in store, from a 16 Pro Max to this phone. I did a very current iCloud backup at the store, set up the new phone, and left before it finished restoring (it was like 130 GB's to download).

After restoring was complete at home, none of my text messages in iMessage showed up 😢 (I do not have "Messages in iCloud" toggled on).

The weird thing is in iPhone Storage, it says Messages has 8.3 GB taking up space. It has Review Large Attachments (showing GB's to save by deleting), but when I click it, there's nothing there.

I hope they show up in the next few days or something.

Hey, did you get this sorted? Having the same issue here. I don't have icloud backup for messages turned on. I did a full backup to my PC and restored it. All of my data is here except messages.. it is completely blank. Storage still shows that they are present on my device.. seems like a visual bug

OK it is queued in the iCloud server and the next time your iPhone is online on the Internet it will get the command to erase. So either the Apple store will erase it or the iCloud function will get it. No big deal at this point.

Next time don't leave you device behind without wiping it or send the Remote erase as soon as you get your activation of your eSIM transfer complete.
