Maybe there's no hard and fast rule. I always order launch day as soon as the store opens, and the shipment has been FEDEX every time. Also, every time, FEDEX will leave the package on my door without signature, but yet if I get a watch band, or name any accessory under $100 US, then they want a signature.

My current status is preparing to ship.
Mine is always FedEx too. But for me they won’t even knock or ring the bell lol. I had to call the company and give them the info and ask them to try again.

OT, and random but is anyone considering starting from fresh vs. doing a restore? I am thinking of this as
I wait for Friday, but am I insane? LOL
Thinking of doing a fresh install for the first time in I'd say 8-10 years of just restoring from backups. I've got a lot of apps I don't use anymore and the important ones that I do, I can either sign-in again as most of the data are in the cloud anyway. So...gonna start fresh and download apps as needed.

About the 9/25 controversy, we don’t know what happened. It could have been folks canceling their order, enabling folks moving to 9/19.
My guess based on past experiences is that if something is not getting delivered on launch day, Apple provides a date range for those orders. The 9/25 date was out of the ordinary since it was not a date range, so I believe it was likely a system issue.

This is exactly what I’m doing. First time in many many years

My very first iPhone was the 4s, beautiful white. I don't need no stinking iPhone, I said for months while taking hours to push buttons to get to what I needed on my Windows phone. Of course I eventually caved. I'm not sure they even did pre-orders back then, I think that was 2011. I went to the Apple Store at 3:30 AM on launch day to stand in the already long line. I was living in a major city at the time. At about 6 AM a guard told us we all had to move to a different area. By then there had to be at least 100 people behind me. Everyone RAN. I refused to run, it was so sleazy to try to beat others to a better place in line. I ended up almost at the end of the new line. I had a work meeting at noon I couldn't get out of, barely got my phone in time. "Sorry I'm late folks, had to get my iPone" just wouldn't have worked. It would have been kind of fun, a little society of Apple lunatics, if not for the stampede when we had to move. I've kept my oath to never again stand in line on launch day without a pre-order.
Oh that brought back memories! I stood in line for a white 3G. (I stood in more lines than that. But I think that was the longest.) It was not my first iPhone. I had taken the day off, just in case. After several hours, an Apple employee came out and asked who was waiting for what color. I was the first who wanted white, and I got the very last one. It was so pretty! I remember going to a meeting the next day and placing it on the table... that was a real thing, you know, showing off your phone. One exec gently ran a finger over the curved back and said, "It's soooo sexy!" And it was!

I remember those lines and the store employees lined up and clapped. Everyone was hyped and excited

Me too, I bought it not because orange is my favorite color but because I want them to keep producing more interesting colors for the pros.
Me, too. And that was also part of my reasoning. I've complained so loudly and so long that the pro phones never have fun colors, that I kinda felt obligated to get the one they finally had. Hopefully I'll like it. But, if not, there are cases and skins and such.

Just got this via email and in my FedEx app.

Sorry, we will agree to disagree. Not a legal requirement, but we weren’t owed anything—even if you disagree with that.

Tim Cook and his team didn’t “agree” and make adjustments. Big assumption to think emails to Tim Cook where the reason arrival dates moved from 9/25 to 9/19. I never sent any email, along with many others, and yet had their delivery date moved to 9/19. In my case, less than 12 hours after I placed my order.

Seems like people don’t want to believe that it was an issue on Apple’s end and they corrected it. Instead people want to think their email to Tim Cook was reason for moves. Or that Tim Cook wanted to do the “right thing” for good customers. It was a simple issue on their end and they corrected it. That’s all.

Happens every year. Apple under promises and over delivers when it comes to delivering products.

Enjoy your Sunday.

I think the confusion is where the phone is ordered from. When you order from the carriers they usually ship by fedex. Apple uses UPS.
I think this is correct. I've always ordered through Apple and always delivered by UPS.

Apple uses both. I have been pre ordering phones and other devices through Apple since the iPhone 3S has come out, and it’s been a mix. They even have used DHL once or twice. UPS does deliver the majority of the time, but it’s not exclusively UPS. In fact, my Apple Watch that I pre ordered is coming via FedEx express delivery.

Thanks to Apple's Pre Pre-Order feature they built-in to the Apple Store app, as long as I had all the details of my desired iPhone 17 Pro Max selected inside that feature, by 23:00 CST, the following morning that Pre-Ordering was to open at 07:00 CST, it was a bit delayed, I think 07:06 CST all I had to do was leave the Apple Store open, the screen auto-updated...as soon as it popped-up, it brought me to my saved order, all I had to do was select mail to my home, pay via my Apple Pay, and it was done - less than 30 seconds from when it opened! My order will arrive this Friday!

Your Pre Pre-Ordered time cut-off varied by timezone/region, but it was all very well documented.

It's never been easier or smoother! 😎
