My first iPhone purchase was maybe 2 weeks after launch, my wife suggested I get one. I nearly fell off my chair.

For a few iPhones after that I was in line on launch day, then i had my wife and toddler son wait in line for me (or that's the story I'd tell people, they were appalled when I said I'd sent them the afternoon before to wait overnight to get me an iPhone). Then I switched to ATT online ordering, though every year ATT showed me yet another way they could eff it up, so I switched to Apple Store ordering.

I loved the UPS deliveries as after a few years of waiting "patiently" for them to finally get to me I found I could arrange for a UPS Customer Care Center hold, and I'd pick up my phone at 10am, only one time was there a line of one person. On my way home I'd stop by the Apple Store to see what was happening and look at the colors to see if i might want to try to trade in my still new in a box phone and buy one of them.

Then UPS only would deliver it, I couldn't have them hold it for pickup on launch day morning. We were at the end of the driver's long day and i decided I'd not wait anymore.

And this Friday will be my first ISPU in well over a decade. Looking forward to returning to that adventure.

I'll be sad to miss out on the tracking adventures of watching planes flying over the Pacific, and then over Canada. I'll have to hitch a ride on someone else's UPS flight to SDF!
Your journey is not unlike mine. I bought the first one on launch day only because a friend of mine wanted to go check it out at the Apple Store. I was so amazed with the device, I purchased it on the spot. There were no lines and no waiting. I have stood in line, done ISPU, ordered through AT&T and somehow, always ended up with a phone on launch day.

Why did people camp out for Star Wars Episode I?

Why did people camp out for Halo 3?

Why did people camp out to get the 7th Harry Potter book?

They like the company, they like the community that the company attracts, or some other 3rd thing.

Edit: I'm not being snarky. Fandom is different for everyone, and each fandom has its own traditions.
No worries! I wonder why they do that stuff too. Lol I'm a very mellow chic. I enjoy watching other people's excitement and would never try to dampen it. Human nature is fascinating, but I don't care for much in person human interaction. Zoom me lol. I'm am Introvert a lil bit.

I'm a super fan of the Onyx Storm books, but not enough to dress up and camp out for them. I never knew I could love a dragon. Maybe that makes me not a super fan?

Trust me, I’m old enough to remember the Windows 95 launch. My first computer was a Commodore 64, I had bbs that I talked to people on, and went to computer club meetings in the 80’s. Those were the days lol
I sort of miss the usenet newsgroups. The internet was so new and shiny! I went shopping on an internet "mall" (eta: CompuServe) and bought a "chocolate chip cookie" (a plaster cookie that smelled like chocolate and had a chip embedded in it), and a "computer bug" (a chip with eyes glued on), and I still have both. Somewhere.

I only sent in one phone in all my years in iUP, as I recall. All the other years it moved to a family member or I sold it.

I re-upped the iUP every year, and ignored the requests that I send back the phone and they unlocked that loan and I kept paying it monthly or paid it off outright. I used my AC to pay the monthly installments, but now have chosen to just use the ACMI instead. Fewer accounts, statements, billing, payments, etc. lol
What do you mean by Citizens unlocking your loan?

I simply meant I may understand why iPhones are so popular once I use one and experience it's features, functions, etc.

Why now? I have more time than I used to, so I read more for one thing. Apple articles are everywhere. I enjoy tech so the articles lead me to watch some YT videos and I'm interested. I watched the Apple deal last Friday and I'm even more interested.

Apple has always had this huge following, and I have friends who used to stand in line because the phones would sell out in hours. It's like you weren't living unless u had an iPhone. Even the kids get bullied if they don't have an iPhone. It's crazy!!

I have the time, I have the desire to try something new, and I've decided to see for myself what the hype is about. I may not like it at all, but I'm open minded enough to give it a go. I doubt I'll switch 100%, but who knows? People leave and come to this side all the time. At the very least, I'll have new tech to learn and I enjoy that.

Also, my Apple group chat people and family members are gonna stop breathing when they see my blue bubble because I haven't told anyone I'm getting one, and they know the love I have for my preferred devices!! Lol

The iPad was my gateway Apple device. Outside of an iPod in 2004, I didn’t own any Apple products until 2017. I had the idea I wouldn’t like them. But, I wanted a new tablet, and I decided to try an iPad instead of another Android, based mainly on how pretty they looked. Shortly after, my Nexus phone died. A coworker suggested that since I already had an iPad, maybe I try an iPhone. So, I got a 7 Plus. The products not only looked beautiful, but the way they worked together was quite nice. I liked the Apple ecosystem a lot more than I expected I would. Next came the Apple Watch. Then, the MacBook. While I still use Android phones (my work phone and a back up phone are both Android,) the iPhone is my daily driver.

ordered a clear case and protector from Amazon for 17 pro max for "just in case" and will get a regular case later on when I see the accessories in-store.

I believe that's what they call it while they wait to release you from your balance after you've sent in the phone. Or was it locked until the new loan was in place?

It's the limbo between the old loan and the next loan, with the expected return of the year old phone tossed in.

Is that clear enough? lol

Just another weird complication that i no longer needed as I now use the ACMI.

edit: I remember now a bit more about that, it's that I couldn't make any changes to the loan, payments, or profile updates for the month or so around the arrival of the new phone and the box I was expected to use to send them the year old phone. But I basically kept most year's phones and just kept paying on it, or bought out the loan outright.

I think i learned of the lock when wanted to pay off a loan, but it was locked so I couldn't.

I went to an Amiga User Group for a few months. In the next room was the Macintosh Group, the Apple people. One of them suggested to me in the hallway that I should be hanging out with them instead of the Amiga nerds. lol

What’s the downside of ACMI? Not getting consistently 50% of trade in? During the rare times you didn’t pass along your previous phone, how’s Apple’s trade-in policy & procedure at store? Just a quick, say 4, items to check off. Apple Specialist might say this dent will knock off $50

I’m starting to think the iPhones are already in the U.S. This is the first time in six years that I don’t have a tracking number by now. In the past, I’ve always been able to find it by reference by Sunday at the latest, but this time I can’t find anything.

Last year something similar happened when I ordered through T-Mobile. They shipped it from the U.S. just a few hours before launch day (Friday), so I couldn’t track it ahead of time.

I live in Puerto Rico (so my iPhone travels a bit farther than most). If it were coming straight from China or India, I should already see some tracking info, but that’s not the case. That’s why I believe the iPhones are already in the U.S.

I just got UPS tracking on two of the three iPhones preordered, 17P and 17PM, they are in Lebanon, TN.
Also preordered two watches, got tracking on one of them, it is in Clayton, IN.

I started out with Commodore computers, first was a VIC-20, then C-64, Amiga 500 and 1200. Fun times and great memories.

For the first time since the iPhone 6, I won't be upgrading this year. I really wanted to check out the Air, but I needed an iPad and recently purchased it and told myself I had to skip the phone if I wanted the iPad.

I miss refreshing this thread all the time!

Hope all of you have good luck scoring your devices on Friday!

I think you’re right. I had a tracking number that would give me an alert about waiting until it was in the system. Signed up for UPS my choice and it has the label info. So used to watching the journey from China in years past but this is in Spark NV. Ordered through TMo. 1.20 lbs via Next Day Air. 17 pro max.

Can @Ameer_1 please change the title of this thread to add “Apple.com” to indicate that it is for Apple.com USA orders only, as in previous years? Last year’s title was:

U.S.A. - Apple.com - New iPhone 16/Plus/Pro/Pro Max US Pre-Orders, Orders, and Delivery Status Thread (2024)

There are other threads for orders placed a) via U.S carriers or b) in other countries. This thread has historically been USA Apple.com orders only.

They may be trade in kits I have something something also coming from TN but I don’t see anything from apple about the trade in kit yet
