I get it. It’s crazy to deny pre-orders between 8:00 and 8:05 launch day just because of tariffs but I get it.
This is not going to be the case for them not having delivery and going to in store pick up. When the item gets shipped to the US is when the tariff is imposed. The tariff rate is going to be the same exact cost whether you pick up from the store or whether you have it shipped to you.

Wanted to offer some advice for anyone sending their phone to Apple as a trade in… take a picture of your iPhone turned on in the trade in box. A few years ago on IUP I sent my iPhone back and the company that takes them (it’s not Apple directly, I forget the third party) claimed an empty box arrived. It was obviously stolen in transit. Since then I always take a pic of the phone in the box and keep the shipping receipt to prove I sent it back. Thieves know that a lot it phones are about to be sent through the mail! Just some friendly advice.

Why so many of you doing in-store pickup? Just curious.
I don’t do it myself, since the nearest store is about 90 minutes away and my wife works from home. With UPS deliveries, a signature is usually required, and not everyone is around to sign. Some people also don’t feel comfortable leaving a package outside until they get back. For others, it’s all about having it in hand by 8 a.m. on release day, because waiting just isn’t an option. Some like posting on social media that they got their phone early, while others want to set up their new device right at work so it’s ready to use instead of waiting until they’re home.

You’ll even see people pulling all-nighters, tracking their phone’s flight from China to Alaska on FlightAware. For some, it’s almost like waiting for a newborn to arrive. I stop by this forum because I get a kick out of watching how over the top the excitement can get. Some people get genuinely upset if the phone isn’t on their doorstep at 8 a.m. sharp, and a few even demand compensation. Others have full-on panic attacks if there’s a delivery hiccup and they don’t get their phone exactly when they want it. Definitely first-world problems.

with regard to trade-ins, i paid in full and if i mail the phone in i guess they will credit my CC which i don't want to happen (rewards card.)

can i just go into the store later and trade in in person for an apple gift card? i don't actually trust the mail-in trade-in as i've been burned too many times by that.

haven't upgraded in 3 years so not sure how things work nowadays.

The closest Apple store is about 2 hours away other wise I would do the store pick up for that reason. UPS probably won't be at my house until after lunch on launch day so I just have to wait a few extra hours.

I changed my mind, placed another pre-order for a blue pro max. but i don't see the option to cancel my first pre-order. is it because too soon?

Has anyone cancelled an IUP order with a Sep 25th date and reordered with a 9/19 date?

I can see 9/19 is available for delivery but I’m afraid to cancel my IUP if it takes time to reset the availability of it. I may just leave it and hope it comes on the 19th. So annoyed by this

I'm in the same boat. I think I am going to just let it play out and see if the 25th date gets moved to the 19th.

Also on iUP since launch. I have about 15 stores within 40 miles, not a single one had availability for in-store pickup this year. If I was buying outright, most stores had wide availability though. This was at like 8:04am. Very odd this year.
Innnterresting. I wonder why such a notable difference this year?
