On 3/11, Mac versions of all Steam games, Portal 2, and perhaps HL2 Ep 3 will be announced on the same day, and it shall be epic.

I can see this going over very well with Apple. All Apple has to do is fix their input acceleration and I would completely switch for competitive gaming.

It's a stetch when the majority of hardware runs Core 2 + 9400M G or worse.

Mouse/trackpad acceleration is insignificant.

Awesome. For me, the circle comes to a close. I was on the Day of Defeat mod team back in the day when Valve bought it in -03. Gabe's signature gave me the cash to buy my first PowerBook. Great guys, Valve.
I played TFC, but when DoD came into it's own I started getting into that. Great game you helped build.

Would be awesome if they supported these classic games! TF2 is a good game, but will never hold a candle to TFC!

Very cool references to previous Apple advertising campaigns. Hopefully good games actually appear for Mac now.

Anyone who thinks crossover performs well compared to native osX or even bootcamp performance is crazy too. Crossover is good but native will blow it out of the water with all the resolution, antialiasing, lighting and detail settings ramped up!

I hope we don't have to pay again too, and if we do - just a minor upgrade fee. Makes no sense to charge us again really - it'd certainly lose some of it's impact for potential switchers.

I suppose we've yet to find out whether these will be native ports or Ciderized versions. That aside, this is the best Mac gaming news for a long time!

Most of my games are OS X native, with only a couple of Cider ports, & nothing would please me more on the gaming front than for it to stay that way. Bring it on! :)

Valve aren't the type of company to use porting engines, usually they have porting studio to do it like they did with the XBOX and PS3. Source is one of the most powerful and stable engines you can get.

I wonder what Source games would like like under OpenGL 2.1/3

Why on earth would Apple do that? That would kill all sales of the current Mac Book. Business 101; never let a customer know what they are buying today will be outdated tomorrow.

Teasers might work for a game company, but not for a computer company still try to sell their current line up to customers.

In technology, it's well-accepted that what you buy today will be outdated tomorrow no matter what. They should be trying to capture those people who aren't addicted to macs; since PC manufacturers tend to update their systems' specs more often, I'm sure there are some people who choose to buy PCs due to the mac of the time only being available with old tech. If the aforementioned people knew that a competitive mac is around the corner, they might hold out. I think apple would prefer people buy their products rather than their competitors'.

Except for the hitboxes. Hitboxes have always sucked under Source and likely always will. It's especially terrible in L4D with the fast-moving units. Hunter hitboxes + 150ms ping = hitboxes that sometimes lead the target by 10-15 feet.

I've learned (the hard way) not to get my hopes up with this type of news.

Remember Unreal Tournament 3, announced for Mac 2 years ago? Yeah, still MIA.

And wasn't Gears of War also announced for Mac almost 3 years ago? Yeah, still MIA.

And Blizzard - the only game shop equally dedicated to both Macs as PCs (curse you Bungie, you sellouts) - is taking their sweet time with Starcraft 2.

I gave up on Mac gaming long ago and now rely on my PS3 for entertainment.

Let me know when any of these products actually hit the shelves (either physical or virtual).

:(

I'm taking a reserved stance as well. It's exciting to hear about but my hopes aren't going up.

Yes but those were done by EPIC, a now shadow of their former self.

GOW sucked, you'd need to have the complexity of a kiwifruit to think its brilliant.

ID Software and Valve, keep their promises. Except Valve takes 5 years to do it.

BTW, Bungie didn't sell out, they got bought out.

But if official screenshots from Valve are out, I think they will keep their word. This isn't just some rumor or speculation.

Valve does what it says, they don't have a history of failure to release dates and with their apparent commitment to bring Source games to Mac, I think we can all be excited for this.

I can see Source coming to OS X but the computer hardware platform Apple provides leaves much to be desired.

In all honesty, I'm stuck with my current Macbook with no incentive to replace it.

April Fools???

Valve does have a cruel sense of humor and this all could be hype for the upcoming April Fools.

However the Snipers' Piss Jar was an April Fools joke and a week later it was released into the game.

Are there official screenshots? These just look like ads.

The laptop you have is overpowered than what you can use for anyway.

I don't get it, the biggest complaint about OpenGL is it lacks consistent implementation. Why don't they take OpenGL. Rebrand it, push it and requires 100% compliancy for drivers.

The reason why Blizzard takes their sweet time on their games is because they value the customer more than the shareholders. They try to get everything right out the door. They have a fan base full of die hard followers for their small archive of games that massive franchises would kill for. If you look at game sells over the years the few Blizzard games stayed near the top, even the older ones. Wired had an article a few months back while talking to the COO of Blizzard and he even said they keep the customer before the shareholders because they are who buys the games.

Plus it is not like Blizzard is hurting for money, just take a look at the revenue that WoW brings in.
