It's a stetch when the majority of hardware runs Core 2 + 9400M G or worse.I can see this going over very well with Apple. All Apple has to do is fix their input acceleration and I would completely switch for competitive gaming.
I played TFC, but when DoD came into it's own I started getting into that. Great game you helped build.Awesome. For me, the circle comes to a close. I was on the Day of Defeat mod team back in the day when Valve bought it in -03. Gabe's signature gave me the cash to buy my first PowerBook. Great guys, Valve.
On 3/11, Mac versions of all Steam games, Portal 2, and perhaps HL2 Ep 3 will be announced on the same day, and it shall be epic.
I suppose we've yet to find out whether these will be native ports or Ciderized versions. That aside, this is the best Mac gaming news for a long time!
Most of my games are OS X native, with only a couple of Cider ports, & nothing would please me more on the gaming front than for it to stay that way. Bring it on!![]()
Why on earth would Apple do that? That would kill all sales of the current Mac Book. Business 101; never let a customer know what they are buying today will be outdated tomorrow.
Teasers might work for a game company, but not for a computer company still try to sell their current line up to customers.
Except for the hitboxes. Hitboxes have always sucked under Source and likely always will. It's especially terrible in L4D with the fast-moving units. Hunter hitboxes + 150ms ping = hitboxes that sometimes lead the target by 10-15 feet.Valve aren't the type of company to use porting engines. Source is one of the most powerful and stable engines you can get.
I wonder what Source games would like like under OpenGL 2.1/3
I'm taking a reserved stance as well. It's exciting to hear about but my hopes aren't going up.I've learned (the hard way) not to get my hopes up with this type of news.
Remember Unreal Tournament 3, announced for Mac 2 years ago? Yeah, still MIA.
And wasn't Gears of War also announced for Mac almost 3 years ago? Yeah, still MIA.
And Blizzard - the only game shop equally dedicated to both Macs as PCs (curse you Bungie, you sellouts) - is taking their sweet time with Starcraft 2.
I gave up on Mac gaming long ago and now rely on my PS3 for entertainment.
Let me know when any of these products actually hit the shelves (either physical or virtual).

I can see Source coming to OS X but the computer hardware platform Apple provides leaves much to be desired. But if official screenshots from Valve are out, I think they will keep their word. This isn't just some rumor or speculation.
Valve does what it says, they don't have a history of failure to release dates and with their apparent commitment to bring Source games to Mac, I think we can all be excited for this.
BTW, Bungie didn't sell out, they got bought out.

In all honesty, I'm stuck with my current Macbook with no incentive to replace it.
