AWESOME!! Now, all I need is AutoCad ported over (turbo cad won't even load correctly, so I'm not sure how it is performance wise) and Rhinoceros 3D (which is being beta tested as we speak) and then bye bye Windows. Finally!

It seems most Mac people don't even realize how far ahead Windows is in that department. Everywhere from engines, and API's, to straight ahead performance. It's an interesting announcement, but playing CSS, HL2, and TF are like what...a decade old?

Fail, Half Life 2 is the oldest game at 6 years.

Engines are pieces of abstraction code to take advantage existing APIs. EG, I can make an Engine that uses OpenGL/AL/CL and SDL. They can be as good or as crap as the designer makes it. ID Software make some of the worlds best game engines from the supposedly crap OpenGL.

APIs are debatable. They are designed for different things. Cocoa is actually rather advanced to what is still used commonly on Windows. Its only recently that large projects are considering using .Net.

Performance is also debatable, Benchmarks show that Windows 7 is the exact same speed of windows vista but people claim Windows 7 is snappier. (Until about 4 weeks of use :p) Benchmark wise, Snow Leopard is faster, but Snow Leopard has problems for some people.

Perhaps you just have lower expectations.

Isn't that an opinion in itself?

I think being able to pick up my 5 pound laptop, go to my work conference all day tomorrow at Certi, sit in the back and provide tech support here and there, but play some HL2 most of the time is great.

I think it's great that I can move around my dorm, and surf the net with the same piece of tech just as easily.

I think it's great I can go to my classes, bring it with my to New York for a week this spring, hang out at friends etc, with the same piece of tech. Gaming, work, whatever.

I don't think I have lower expectations, just different ones.
I expect to be able to move around, not just sit and have to be in the same chair every time I want to play.

And like I said in my previous post, I just plug into my 23" Acer when I'm at my dorm desk. External Wireless Keyboard and Mouse.
$250 for it all.
I have a desktop + laptop, I understand the benefits of both.

On modern hardware Windows 7 doesn't offer many performance benefits over Vista. On older hardware (e.g. machines with 1GB of RAM and slower CPUs), Windows 7 will run better than Vista, and on a par with XP.

Why did they fail?

Yeah, I hope we don't have to buy the games again. On one hand, they obviously want to be payed for their hard work of porting, but then on the other hand, they will get new customers this way. Wonder what they will do...

Opinions still aren't facts. There's a game for that.

Opinions are not facts true, but they are the one thing that can supplement facts in this case.

Argument = Gaming on notebooks is inferior / bad
Rationale (or in debate, criterion) = I like Desktops

Counter = That is your opinion
Counter Rationale = Lots of people disagree (proven by the vast market of "gaming notebooks" even the brand of Alienware, as well as people that just like to game on their MBP's)

Opinions can only be used one way, they are the only thing like that.
They can build an argument just fine, and supplement facts almost completely. However you cannot use your opinion to discredit something else, or others.
Think about that for a minute, and it makes perfect sense. That is not even my argument, it's Lockes.

You are short of growing. You have it in your own words.

Wrong, I'm using opinions to prove something, not discredit. cmon
My argument is not trying to discount, its supporting and building. There is nothing wrong logically with my argument.

Also, please stop with the cryptic short line responses.

I guess we are back to square one then. I had some hope.

Frankly, the 9600M GT just isn't enough for me. The 335M is where I draw the line. You needed something less cryptic. You don't really have to read back to the beginning.

Since you cannot point out a fallacy in my argument, and instead resort to.... well I don't know what kind of counter that is, i'll drop it?

9600m GT is garbage, luckily we are getting an update...

>the 4850 sucks
brb, playing Shattered Horizon

It's nowhere as good as, say, a GTX280 (is that the name? I never get it right) but it gets the job done.
Just don't be an idiot and run the latest games at 2560x1440

my experience tells me that Windows 7 runs BETTER than Windows XP on my new i5 iMac.
Average FPS on L4D2 (1080p, high details, 4x MSSA, 16x anisotropic filtering) is 45 on Windows 7 x64 vs 30 on Windows XP

I didn't have to. But the internet is serious business.

I won't hold my breath. My MacBook still runs OS X like it did from day one. I have no idea where to place my expectations when it comes to Apple.

In normal debates, you need point out holes in the oppositions arguments, a simple, I don't need to won't cut it.

Why aren't you? updates are imminent, be it June or,(most likely) this month..

I simply let you do all the work given my responses. Your opinion counts as much as your friend's.

The M11x exists now. It's just not Arrandale based so that's more breath holding for me. Apple hasn't offered any incentives to replace my MacBook. It does get depressing sometimes when you want something new.

Yes but gaming isn't exactly Apple's priority, I think he's right in not having high expectations on the GPUs

Most are only expecting a 330m GT or 5830, MUCH better than now, but I mean they are no 280m's??

or 260's

even a 9800m gts ties the radeon

These cards aren't shooting for the moon.
