Canada wins TWO gold medals today! We're currently in first place if you rank by gold medals (Like the IOC does).

Canada: 10
Germany: 9
USA: 8

Be proud my man, because you won't be winning a gold medal today;):D

Peace

I thought winning a bronze was better than not winning anything? If we are going to just count the Gold why have silver and bronze at all?

Fair point, some kind of grading would be better. However the Americans count all the medals as equal which isn't a worse system IMO.

I'd rather have more gold than have more bronze. But I guess we all rank it to try to get our country at the top of the list. ;)

It is an achievement just to medal, so why not count everything. The USA is going to break the all time record with the most medals ever won.

But would you rather have 5 bronze vs no medals at all?

Yeah, of course. But that's not the case. I rather have 20 bronze than no medals at all, but I rather 5 - 10 gold than 20 bronze.
Everyone wants to win the gold, but what is the better achievement. Winning 1 gold or winning 15 medals?

yeah they will but just take a look at how many athletes they have compared to all other countries. they have athlete all across the board in everything. and good athletes too.

By that logic the US should have 40 gold medals.

Because anything other than a gold means you haven't actually won the competition.

If one country gets 51 golds, 21 silvers and 28 bronzes they've fairly clearly done better than another country which gets 36 golds, 38 silvers and 36 bronzes (source).
