Early this morning, I received an email from Verizon fraud to contact them. When I finally got a hold of someone, they said they needed a copy of my DL. I told the rep that I had already emailed it yesterday...She was able to pull it up again and my order is being processed, allegedly with the same ship date of 9/21.

Same here. I’m a new customer and had to do the same thing. It was a horrible experience tbh and not the best start with a new carrier. The first call took an hour to be answered. They wanted me to upload my Id and call back. I did that and waited another hour only for the rep to say not all corners were present (which they clearly where but I wasn’t going to argue). At that point I didn’t care anymore and wasn’t going to redo the upload and wait another hour. 20 mins later another rep called back and said she reviewed the photos and the order was good to go.

I always set up as a new iPhone. I just feel like it’s cleaner that way. Plus I usually have some junk on my phone I don’t need. I also don’t carry any photos over from the old phone. I put them on the computer and store copies on multiple external hard drives. I just like starting fresh.
Yeah, i've done that before as well. I'm considering a clean install this time around myself. Just a matter of remembering the settings I had on the previous phone :)

I’ve always just restored as old iPhone, but now that you mention it, it seems like a good idea to set up as new iPhone because I also have a lot of apps I don’t use. Can you still transfer pictures over if you set it up as new though?
Yeah, you can; as long as you have iCloud Photo Library enabled.

Agreed! And to boot, the $30 activation fees on 3 phones! I will definitely call when I get the first bill to nicely get waived... On other note, what does your order status say? Really don't trust this anymore, since I did it all yesterday and had to do it again...don't even know if order is going thru.

Apple itself has not activated eSIM on the phone and the website states it is coming in a future Software Update.

(See footnote 11 on this page.)

The eSIM is active, just not user configurable to start.

Doesn’t mean your carrier can’t use it to ship you a pre-configured eSIM.

We won’t know until we get those phones.

Usually Verizon orders say “4G 4FF Pre-installed SIM” (4FF = Nano SIM).

This time around it says “GTO multi-form-factor SIM PI”. An eSIM = MFF2, or multi-form-factor.

We’ll see. :)

They offered $320 for me to trade in my 7+. Chatted with mom and she said she’d give me the $320 for it then let my dad have it.

Sure wasn’t like the deal we had a couple of years ago, that’s for sure. I feel like Verizon gave customers the middle finger with the “buy one get and get $700 off another” deal since it requires a new line.

I live in, grew up in, and travel a lot of areas with crap cell service. Back home the service is terrible and Verizon doesn’t care because they offer the best coverage in the area so they know people aren’t switching. I’ve always stuck with Verizon even when living in areas with better cell service so I can be reachable when I am back home. I’ve worked in higher ed and I’m now a librarian, so I have always had nice vacations where I spend lots of time with my family and I can’t stand to be cut off from the outside world lol.

Otherwise I’d give verizon the finger and switch!
Ok thanks for the info. I’m gonna hold out a bit longer and hope something better from version. Enjoy

Do you mean that there aren’t people posting about running to their doctor to get Xanax because the anxiety of having to wait for their phone and tracking it is too much to handle and they haven’t slept in days? Or about how they are caling Verizon in a panic because their order status hasn’t progressed in the last 37 seconds? Or how they are getting fired from work because they called out so there can be there to get their phone? Or how they stayed up all night watching the flight tracker pics by pixel as it crossed the screen bringing their phone over from China? Or how they called FedEx at 801am because their package wasn’t delivered yet? I love reading how anxious and worked up people get over a phone. I woke up at 730am for work and ordered mine. It will be here on the 21st. I will be out of town for the day and the phone will wait patiently as will I until I get home. It’s just a phone. Not a cure to a debilitating disease.
Lol. Amen though.....

Will be interesting if activation will go smoothly with these phones. New technology may cause issues initially when you try an activate. I hope not, but there have been nightmares in the past trying to activate phones. I may hold off trying to activate until I see it is going smoothly for others. Don't want to be stuck the weekend without a phone.

It says:

I don’t really trust them either. The fraud customer reps don’t seem very knowledgeable or helpful. They wanted you off the line as soon as possible with doing as little as possible for you. I’ll give them a call on Monday and talk to a normal rep. I can’t get a hold of normal customer service as they seem to be closed on the weekends.

FYI Today I was able to get back 20 bucks on the 30 dollar activation fee over chat. Also, I was able to get a ticket opened and it sounds like they'll add my 75 dollars in UP reward device dollars to my account. So things are looking excellent!

Is anyone able to click the track button in the confirmation email to check the status? I click it and it never loads...

Well now I get this error:

The format of the regular SIM also changed this year - that may be why it has a new name.

Last year was a PITA for me with Activation. Let's hope it doesn't repeat. Had to get escalated to Tier 2 at Verizon and eventually it worked.

Best. Post. Ever.

Deliver By 9/21 has turned to Estimated Ship Date 9/21.

Mine shows the same also. I had a confirmation at 2:06am, so hopefully 9/21 will still be the actual delivery date. I typically work from home on Fridays so its more convenient if it comes that day.

Is it me or do this thread seems a little empty this year

I think more people will be going for the Xr next month. You’ll see more activity then.

/maybe it’s a glitch with their server?

My wife has a series 6 plus that is basically falling apart. She likes the larger screen phones and good camera so I’m probably going to go for the xs max for her. I was thinking of getting one myself, maybe the xs, with that $700 off.

My main question is Verizon unlocking policy. We travel to Europe and Asia on alternative years so how long does it take Verizon to unlock the phones after purchase?

If you are purchasing in full and not buying on a payment plan, buy from Apple without a SIM. This will ensure the phone is not locked to a particular carrier.

Prior to the iPhone Xs/XS Max, the iPhones were never locked on Verizon. We don't even know for sure if they will lock for 60 days this year's models.

$700 is a lot to ignore. I’ll give them a call and see what their policy is.

Thanks for the responses.

My Verizon receipt after buying the phone shows a $30 'upgrade fee', not an activation fee. But I paid cash for my current phone as well as the new phone I just ordered. I chatted today with a rep -- she kept calling it an activation fee but said she would waive it. Then she said that next time I order, call their customer service to get the fee removed before I finishing placing the order. I had to laugh -- am I really supposed to get ahold of anyone in customer service right after they start taking orders for the new iPhones ???
