Verizon dropped the ball

I pre ordered my phone from verizon online and I received my phone yesterday in the afternoon, happy as can be because I went without a phone for two months so I could have the new iPhone and when I synced up my new phone everything seemed to be going well until I used it and then the problems started to happen. The phone did not let me send group texts, so I checked my contacts numbers and noticed that the numbers were like 1234567890 instead of (123) 456-7890 or there were +1 on some of my contacts. The contacts synced up from my address book on my mac and I thought maybe it was a sync issue so I called apple and they couldn't figure out what was wrong until they asked if I could go into the settings and check the contacts tab and see how many options it gave me and it only had sort order, display order, my info and import sim contacts. So they checked the serial number and determined that my phone that verizon sent me was a U.K. locked phone for vodafone. They called verizon for me explained the situation to them, verizon said they will call me back and they never did so later on in the day I called verizon and I was connected with a woman who said that verizon would never make the mistake and send me a vodafone and that Apple has no idea what they are talking about. She insinuated that it was my fault and that I had a lack of communication with Apple and there is no way it would work on their service. It's a global phone that will work internationally. She spoke to me as if I never dealt with a phone before and I was not inputing the numbers correctly and that the dashes don't mean anything and that texts work on her iPhone 4. I can't believe that verizon hires such ignorant people. Apple said they would exchange my phone so I am hoping that is true.

There's no excuse for that type of service, but it does sound like it was a mixup on Apple's part in the first place. Apple's production facilities in China are the ones that bundled the phones on pallets and shipped them to the various carriers. If a Vodaphone-locked version got put on a Verizon-bound pallet, that would be Apple's fault.

Yeah but verizon made it seem as if it was my fault for the phone messing up, it was my "miss communication" with the apple rep.

Well, I was just going to cancel my preorder today and go up to the Verizon store, but now the tracking says preparing for shipping instead of processing so I can't cancel. It's says it's going to deliver between the 24th and the 31st. Great....

I am also showing a 10/21 ship date on Verizon site.

Thanks, all, for the replies about outstanding shipments. Just think of the madness it will all be when the iPhone 5 comes out...

I'm just tired of my Droid 1. Hit a button... and wait... and wait... I don't even install that much stuff. If the iPhone 4S interface is as fluid as my iPad 2, then I will be very satisfied. Never had an iPhone before...

I'm in the same boat as you. I can't deal with Android anymore and I'm happy to be getting my first iPhone.

Sounds like I'm not the only one stuck in the "Preorder, can't cancel, even though local store had phones".

So pissed off. I've talked to Verizon 5 times, including a trip to the store since 10am yesterday. The CSR reps have been fantastic, the ****ing ****** ordering software Verizon has is a piece of ****. It wont even allow a manager to cancel.

I was told that I would get charged when my phone shipped, I got charged but it has not shipped. This is a breach of contract in my opinion.

Is yours saying ship on 10/21 or ship by 10/21? That's what mine is showing, "Your order will ship BY 10/21"

Mine has been charged. Otherwise I would've canceled my order. Had an iPhone4s in hand at the Verizon store today, but could not get it canceled because I had been charged.

Sounds like yours will be shipping Monday. When did you preorder? I was going to cancel today, but had a few other things on my mind. It would be nice to see some movement though.

So here is the whole story. I went to the Verizon store last Friday, say 3pm. I preordered from there. I put in an address to ship, which happened to be a PO Box. It went through fine. Little did I know they would be shipping Fedex. This made my phone shipment not possible. Verizon was not alerted, but I wonder if Fedex was ever given the package in the first place.

I have since changed the address on Friday morning, but the phone was never sent.

I got charged on the 12th, which was only suppose to happen when my phone was off to be shipped.

FRACK

Why can't you just refuse/dispute the charge with your CC company, and then refuse delivery? Just go buy the thing.

now, 48 hours after the big two hour call with customer service and lighting up VZN on Twitter, I still have no additional information about our TWO 64gb 4s's.

These people are seriously, the worst I've ever dealt with customer service wise.

I can't put the phone on my number, only the other two numbers on my plan. Because the iPhone they have "reserved" for me is tied to my account and cannot be removed.

Its a whole bunch of f'ed.

Preordered iPhone through Verizon's web store on 10/10. Today, the order status was still marked as processing, with a ship date of 10/21. I called up my local verizon store, made sure they had the one I wanted in stock, then I called verizon customer service to cancel my preorder. When I arrived at the store, I bought their last iPhone. They even transferred my android contacts for me.

I tried that but they said they couldn't cancel my order because it already shipped. Even tho I never got the shipment notification. They said that even if I did cancel the other it would take 2 days to reset my upgrade eligibility. Did you have to do anything special to let that happen. I was in the apple store with the phone in hand but they couldn't do it.

Thats technically not true - the "can't" bit.

I spent the ENTIRE AFTERNOON yesterday going between the Apple store and a Corp VZN store locally trying to get things sorted....and sorta did.

Bottom line is, if Verizon screwed up your order - Apple can't fix it, or activate you a phone on your existing line (assuming you had an upgrade coming) until VZN un****s your order. So. You can cancel. They issue you an ITTS trouble ticket, it takes 24-72 hours to get processed. In the mean time, you refuse any packages that show up from VZN and wait for the ITTS thing to process and refund your moola.

Then. And only then. Will you be able to "use your upgrade" and no have to go through tons of machinations of opening another account, using an emergency dummy number from VZN and merging it with your existing account, or any other creative solutions your friendly neighborhood Apple / VZN staff come up with.

Interestingly enough, after ALL this BS from VZN, we now have two of the three phones we ordered....but, this whole process has left such a bad taste in our mouth that we're planning to return them. And possibly move a rather significant family plan to another carrier - as well as abort my plans to move to VZN from Tmo to avoid the AT&T take-over that is sure to happen in the next year.

:(

Just wanted to provide some moral support for those who are still waiting for your iPhone. For those of you who are getting an iPhone after having the Droid 1 (like I had) you will LOVE IT! I know it sucks, but the wait will be well worth it once you get it in your hands. :D

Hi,

Just checking to see if anyone who ordered after the 10/7/11 has had their order status changed with Verizon? My order still says awaiting inventory with a ship date of 10/21/11. Anyone else in the same boat? Just wondering if they will ship sooner by any chance?

Still waiting! Ordered on Monday, October 10th at 3 AM (ET).

Status: We received your order and it is in process.
Expected Ship Date: 10/21/2011

No charge on the CC either.
