    Hi All,

I would appreciate if you guys can help me resolve this particular issue. Anyway, I'm new to this forum.

Anyhow, I'm living in Singapore and I've recently purchase Iphone X (Verizon) from Ebay. The package I've received was sealed and after unboxing I followed like what others did, popped in my carrier sim card however, right after I click "Set Up Manually" it shows a Verizon number and after clicked "Next", it prompts for Verizon Account (Billing zip code and SSN) before I could activate the phone?

I'm currently waiting for the seller to respond to my messages. But in the meantime, need you guys advise on this whether this is the norm? as I thought that you can just pop in any Sim Card of your choice and activate. Didn't know that I would encounter such issue.

    Please help.

As I understand it, you’re out of luck without that info. He bought it online, where they require your account info and it must be used to activate the phone. If it was bought at the physical Apple Store, it would be free and clear since they don’t ask for your account info.

Here’s a thread from a week ago where a seller was having the same problem.

Verizon iPhones can NOT be locked in any way. It was part of a deal made with the FCC when they purchased spectrum. I did the exact same thing, except with AT&T. You start it over and it works fine.

The seller has two choices, give you the info or allow you to return it. You have a paperweight otherwise.

Good to hear that. I know giving out such info is sensitive, but I pray hard the seller would.

I read somewhere that putting in all zeros here lets you past this.

    Hi guys,

Just to update that I managed to activate my iPhone. It was an intense research and process just to resolve this issue. Apple and Verizon kept on diverting this issue to one another.

Finally spoke to one of Apple tech support on Saturday. He advised to bring up this matter to Verizon as they unable to do it at their end. So luckily for me, I did my research from one of the posts here where one of the members able to get his iPhone activated when the Apple tech staff inform their Engineer dept and what they did was to disassociate/decoupled the device from Vzw account.
So I told the Apple tech guy about my findings and he seems clueless about it. However, he directed me to his senior tech guy who was accommodative in helping me out. But surprisingly, after I told him about my findings, he doesn't seem to really know that such method is doable and he kept on saying that he doubt his Engineering team would be able to activate it. So I just told him, it worth a try and he concurred. He said that he'll get back to me on Monday if the outcome.

So I wait for a day to pass, but somehow curiousity got the better of me, so I try turning on the phone, hoping that it'll bypass the Vzw credentials page, but it didn't. So this time I did what others have done; inputting all zeros on both fields and "bam" it move to the next page where it says to call Vzw. I select "next" and it shows set up for face I'd.

Hopefully, this will be helpful to anyone who's currently facing the same issue.

I would also like to thank "lordhamster" about his comment regarding the zeros which somehow allow me to do more research on that

If you buy it from Apple.com, does it just ship unlocked? I'd be using it with AT&T prepaid, but want a version that I can move to whatever carrier I want, so...

Apple.com had recently made some changes to its method of buying for those carrier that requires credentials i.e. At&t, Sprint, Verizon. If you intend to pay in full, Apple will give you 2 options:

    a) "Prepare Carrier Activation" - where this is the usual way of purchasing using your existing carrier's account or

    b) "Activate with your carrier later" - which means that you don't need to input your credentials prior to checkout but rather once you received the phone, you have to use an Active Sim card to activate

To me option "b" is somewhat similar to "sim-free" one. I've gotta feeling Apple might do away with the "sim-free" option like the the past iPhones, instead providing the 2 options above.

You might want to get more details from Apple customer service officer whether option "b" will allow you to activate using your At&t even though you selected Verizon upon your purchase.
