As always take the word of a single rep with grain of salt, but I mean if they let you make an appointment and don't take payment information and you don't sign an agreement that you will go through with it... what are they going to do?

Sort of like Gazelle they give me an offer and I have no obligation, but I know it is there if I find a better route. Which by the way thank you for the recommendations I'll check out Amazon's offerings and Swappa.

Also I don't know how the reservation system will work. Maybe it will only be for the following day, maybe they will layout a week in advance like genius bar appts... who knows until tonight.

Tomorrow for me! I'm not like you youngsters able to stay up that late to make a reservation! At least it will be do-able online (I think) but boy, that'll take a lot of bandwidth!

I wonder why the Apple Store app when going in through the preorder screen says two year pric ing from Verizon but if I use the shop icon on the bottom and put my account information in I can buy it at full price?

FYI - If you plan on transferring an upgrade to a new new line and then ordering from Apple.com it will not work. You can transfer and upgrade to another line, but you must order from the Verizon site :(

Just curious why you guys are ordering from verizon? What's the advantage? Considering their ridiculous return policies and fees there is no way I'll ever purchase something from a verizon store (I've lost $ in the past)

This also depend on if you are eligible for an upgrade from Verizon. If you aren't you will get the full pricing

I am not ordering from Verizon and IMHO there isn't any advantage from ordering from Verizon. This thread if for people on Verizon regardless of how you order.

btw - I plan on ordering from Apple.com

No more advantage. In the old days, if you were off contract, sometimes they'd offer you incentives, monetary or with data, but effectively, what they've done with this flat pricing is taken away any reason to buy from them. I asked around that question several times over the last few days.

There's no reason not to purchase from Apple; my personal question is whether or not to get the Apple Upgrade Program. Also, I need to change my Verizon usage plan to the new plan, but I'm afraid to mess anything up with them online before I've made a phone purchase.

Ordering directly through Verizon is the only way to pay monthly installments at 0% interest vs. paying for the full price of the phone up front. Why pay $749 for a 64GB phone when I can pay $27/month over 24 months? If I want to pay it off early at any point, I can. There's no contract or anything.

If you would rather pay for the device monthly and do not want to go to an Apple store, ordering through Verizon is the ONLY way to do this.

Keep in mind that Verizon also waives the $40 activation fee when you purchase a phone using their installment plan. If I buy the phone outright or through the Apple financing plan (which requires an in-store reservation), I have to pay $40 PER PHONE to upgrade.

Seems like lots of advantages to going through Verizon to me.

That's a one-time fee, right? And with the $27 per month (by the way, is that for 6s phones or 6es?), that doesn't include the extra Apple Care that Apple will provide gratis using their plan. Which over 2 years is $5.42 a month.

I was originally considering ordering through Apple directly and paying retail partially in order to get out of paying this activation fee. But when I read your comment, it made me hesitate. So I did a quick search of Verizon's website, because I absolutely do not want to pay a stupid activation/upgrade fee if I can't get around it! :)

What I found was this:
"The $40 upgrade fee applies any time you purchase a new device at a discount, with a contract extension, to replace an old device. This fee is in addition to the cost of the new device and applicable taxes. The upgrade fee does not apply when a new device is purchased at the retail price." @ http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/upgrade-fee-faqs/. It goes onto say that an activation fee is different from an upgrade fee. The activation fee is a one time cost when you sign up with Verizon the first time.

Hopefully, they actually abide by this and won't be charging me a fee...but I'll plan to argue it if they do!

Print that out, good sleuthing!! But if one wants to pay over time, then you're paying that $40 upgrade (even though it isn't a discount, is it?) Hmm. But if the Apple Program is $36.58 month PLUS you get the $130 bucks of AppleCare free, then that $40 activation fee isn't so bad, right? Especially as there's no way that the comparable (64 gig is what I'm working off) is monthly on VZ is certainly not going to be below $31 a month). And the option to get a new phone every year.

I need a drink.

Ah, in my case I *will* be a new customer (returning after a year of misery and problems with AT&T) and they charge the $40 activation fee PER LINE unless you choose the monthly installment plan in which case the activation fee is waived (tested on their site with iP6 placed in the cart). Why, I have no idea. 0% financing for 24 months and waiving the activation fee vs. pay full price and pay a $40 activation fee per line. Makes no sense. You'd think they would rather you just buy the device outright vs. pay it off for 2 years with no interest, but they seem to be steering people that way for whatever reason.

I bet that jkozlow3 is correct and they waive that upgrade fee if you opt to pay over time for your phone, to encourage people to choose that option. This article states as much but I'm not sure how reliable it is: http://www.whistleout.com/CellPhones/News/verizon-raises-sneaky-activation-fee-to-40-dollars.

It's not in my nature to pay something out if I can afford to pay the same price outright. I think both options are equally valid (especially at 0% interest!), I just personally feel more comfortable with upfront because I know for sure how much money I have today...no guarantee about tomorrow!

I second the vote for a drink...math is hard! :D

ETA: You're right, jkozlow3...that is ridiculous. I don't understand Verizon's logic. In your case, I'm pretty sure I would do the payment plan as well. Forty bucks (per line!) would add up fast.

I still can't figure out why if I go through the preorder steps in the apple store app I get a 2 year contact pricing option but when I go into the Apple Store app and click on shop and then pick a phone I can select to pay full price? Can anyone explain this?

FYI you do NOT get the $130 AppleCare+ for free it is just baked into the monthly payments however if you actually do upgrade in one year, you have less out of pocket overall than if you finance through Verizon and get AppleCare+. This is because over the year you only pay for half of the AppleCare (since it is over 24 months) then you upgrade and that clock starts over.

Quick question. If I am buying the phone for full price from Apple, will I need to enter in any of my Verizon account information? Or will Apple just let me select the Verizon model and check out immediately. I always have issues with my Verizon account login and would love to be able to just buy it outright without that hassle.

Ah, yes. So, assume about half of that.

Which raises the other point: if you think you might hold on to your phone for 2 years, then the Program isn't as valuable, except for the fact that you will get a brand new phone for your phone without having to resell the one you have. Oh, good Lord. I have cerebral spinal fluid coming out of my ears now. I have an undergrad business degree and I feel like Marmaduke chasing his tail.

Those with business or govt accounts can only purchase from VZW online. We cannot even use the stores as they have no access to the accounts. Everything is done online or on the phone.

Great question. I would assume you will still have to log in that way when you get the phone Verizon can just turn it up without you calling in. They do this by assigning the MEID (or one of the other unique IDs) to the phone then when it flips on it automagically takes the place of the old phone. But if I were you I would chat/call apple store support and find out so you know how to handle it. Also you can use the "Get ready for Pre-Order" on the iPhone app (or alternatively use the website, step through to the last step and click where it says "Prices vary" for Verizon) and you can test to see if you are having issues with logging in.
