Just read all six pages of this thread...

When I buy the 6s outright at midnight will Verizon charge me a $40 activation fee?

Currently not on Verizon, FYI.

Put an iPhone 6 in your cart at full price. As a new customer, they seem to add a $40 activation fee PER LINE/DEVICE. This is waived if you add the same device(s) to your cart under the monthly payment option. I'm also switching to Verizon tonight so I'm in the same boat. I'm just going to choose the monthly payments since I can always pay it off whenever I want.

I'm using the Apple Store app to practice buying my 6S for tonight at full price, keeping my exisiting plan with grandfathered unlimited data. I'm going through all the steps with a regular iPhone 6, and when I get to the page to select a data plan, and it isn't giving me the "Keep existing plan" choice. I can only choose to keep my base and messaging but the data plan part is asking me for one of their new data plans! Anyone have any idea what to do here?

How do you NOT pay in full without a Verizon account? I literally have no account with them haha

You sign up for a new account. I'm not sure I understand your question. Put an iPhone 6 in your cart right now (choose monthly payments vs. pay in full) and when you proceed it asks you if you are a new customer or an existing customer.

Ok awesome, just did that. Got it. Probably while I'm setting up as a new customer the entire site will crash and I won't get mine ordered haha! Also the 18gb plan isn't there as an option, definitely want that one ;) Hopefully Verizon will let me upgrade to it

To the left hand side of the trade-in appraisal info is the following offer, but no links/urls to click to act on....

Trade in your phone.
Buy a new one. Get $300
New device payment, activation and port-in req'd $300 = $200 trade-in VZW gift card + $100 bill credit (applied within 2-3 billing cycles). Trade-in must be in good working condition.

Isn't this only for people who are new to Verizon?

I had coffee with a friend this afternoon who went to business school with me :D and this is what I think I'm facing. For one thing, I'm not buying a phone tomorrow, though at least I'll be able to make the appointment at the Apple store and also call Verizon and see what the monthly payment is.

Apple Program: $36 and change a month. Can get a new phone every year. If I wait until year 2, the benefit is effectively zero, but then - I assume - I can still take my used two year old phone and get a brand new one. Which makes things simpler. I think.

Verizon: The question for me will be, how much is that monthly payment going to be? That hasn't yet been announced. Regardless, as in the other option, I COULD still switch in a year, but I'd be in charge of selling my phone and paying off the remainder of the 24 month payments. Applecare is my responsibility in this case.

Trade-in for old phone: My in very good condition iPhone 5 will only get about 100 bucks with Verizon, I don't know how much at Apple, and potentially somewhere between 100-200 bucks using swappa, eBay (user has to do the work), Amazon, Gazelle (easier but less money).

So, tomorrow, I make an appointment with Apple, then call Verizon to find out more details. Actually, tomorrow I come here and see what you all have to say, since it'll be faster and likely more accurate. But tomorrow, I think, I will not be buying a phone :(

The Verizon website now has the pricing options confirmed

So the 6s starts at $27.08 and the 6s+ starts at $31.24

No. There are trade up and switch promos. This is a trade up promo that was emailed to me today. When you record the phone you are trading in the web page presents a drop down list of the devices currently on my families' plan. That is not an offer to new customers.

Aha! But I'm happy for you!

I just came to post this - I was on the phone with VZW because they had the wrong device number for my phone (?) and a lovely customer service rep told me this. She also said - and I can't quite believe it's true - that because I'm an existing customer, I can still go the contract route: 2 years guaranteed on VZW, but only $299 up front, with NO ADDITIONAL CHARGES ON MY BILL. If that's the case, I don't know why I wouldn't, but that can't be so, can it? But why would they give me that kind of benefit (basically a $450 savings) without any additional monthly fees?

Because they are not giving you a $25/month credit on your access like you would receive if you bought on the installment plan. 24 x $25 = $600. So $299 up front and they keep another $600 or you can pay for a phone without any subsidy (full price or fixed installment) and be credited that $600 against your line access fee.

I specifically asked about that (three times!) - I asked if my monthly bill would be the new $65 a month or would there be an additional access fee if I went the 299 route. The answer was no. Which makes no sense. So...mistaken. THAT'S why I come here!

Verizon told me it(Pre order options) should appear 3am Eastern Time Saturday morning.

Now VZW is telling me I have to call in at 3am and they can override the website glitch and take care of me. If this doesn't work at 3am I'm gonna go off the rails.

Is anyone else still under contract with Verizon (my contract ends Nov 5th), but looking to take advantage of the early upgrade option they emailed me about and told me about on the phone. If you are in this same situation and going to upgrade to the 6S, what are you being told you need to do to upgrade? Can you use the website? Do you have to call?

What website glitch?

The person whom I'm on the account with (we split the bill 50/50) gets a 20% discount because the education association they work for gets a corporate rate. I jumped on that to save some cash and it causes issues sometimes come upgrade season. If you're on a business account you cannot choose the new monthly phone payment option when purchasing the device on the VZW website. You have to call them so they can do it for you. Won't apply to most people here I'm sure.

I've done this in the past. Either or, really. As long as it's a regular account.

I mean, worse comes to worst, I can sign up for my own account at 3am in about a minute and a half, but I don't think I can keep my number. My current contract ended in October '14. So I have options, but I'd lose the discount.

Good luck to all of your stalwarts who will still be up in 4 hours - looking forward to getting more/better information when *I* wake up, so thanks in advance.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have a "regular" account, I think, but I do get a discount based on my employer. That said, I don't think it's considered a business account because the account is in my name and the only tie to my company is that I simply get a discount on my personal account. Do you think calling in is the only option?

I think I'm going to call in shortly before midnight PST and "get in line", but also try to work it through the website and whichever method is successful first will be fine with me. At least this way I have multiple bases covered.
