VZW doesnt throttle , even the article that stated throttling was a possiblity for vzw, that article even said VZW doesn't have the throttle hardware and software in place yet.

And your Droid and the iphone 4 are pretty even when it comes to performance. The iphone may even perform better...........

Thanks, I didn't think VZW was throttling, but I didn't know for sure. As far as phone performance if mine wasn't rooted the iphone would blow it out of the water. My upgrade is next March so hopefully there will be lte phones out with decent battery life.

First up, the Speed Test errors were specific to upstream only, not downstream. Secondly, I average somewhere around 10 mb/s down, with peaks north of 30.

Just ran a speed test on my Thunderbolt:
Ping - 107
Download - 13742
Upload - 24700.

The upload is suspect, as I usually get around 5 up when I use the phone's mobile hotspot on another device. That said, the upstream is perfectly in line with my normal results.

Given how many of you guys on this board harped on AT&T's greater speeds, why the HELL is this a bad thing?

because they can't have it so they have to find ways of justifying why it's such a bad thing. Battery life isn't going to be terrible forever people, it'll be just fine in a couple years. At that point Verizon will have 90% of America covered with LTE while I can imagine AT&T will be struggling to put up 40-50%. I know where I'm going for the iPhone 6.

Both carriers will be using tiered pricing in less than six months. Based on my personal experience, Verizon will be a bit pricier. LTE is the revenue generator for both networks. You can't have your cake & eat it too. There'll be a price attached to LTE that will make people bitch & moan.

There will be a price attached to both networks. Neither will be cheap. If it costs me 10 bucks extra a month to get 20mbps down in the boonies then so be it.

WELL SAID!:):D

As a att customer, att struggles in everything they do and they do nothing really top notch or great. With the T-Mobile buyout the will have on big congested as network. Especially when you consider that att wants to dump all 35million+ T-mobile users unto the current att 850mhz/1900mhz HSPA+ 3G network, that is already absorbed by 90 million+ current att customers. And the want to free up the T-Mobile 1700mhz 3G network and use it for LTE only. So att wants to add 35million+ more T-Mobile customers to the already slow-ass 850mhz/1900mhz HSPA+ att 3G network........ expect already slow speeds to really suffer once the merger is complete..........

And CURRENT GRANDFATHERED UNLIMITED DATA ATT CUSTOMERS WILL BE BEND WIDE OVER THE BARREL WHEN LTE ROLLS OUT BECAUSE ATT WILL NOT GRANDFATHER ANYONE INTO LTE WITH UNLIMITED DATA!

http://androidforums.com/htc-thunder...te-speeds.html

This thread makes me want to get a thunderbolt 4G just to be grandfathered into unlimited data and use the phone till VZW releases a LTE iphone!

This was a speedtest from user Milan03 in the thread above with a ThunderBolt. Crazy FAST!

I'll take a guess that with VZW you'll be grandfathered into unltd LTE as ling you don't change devices.

give it 6-12 months. verizon will throttle their LTE down to **** when they start getting more people on their LTE network, just like their doing with the iphone

Huh? They aren't throttling the iPhone. Go do some research before you make foolish statements.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_6 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8E200 Safari/6533.18.5)

Any chance that once LTE goes national, VZW might increase the 3G speeds?

Meh.

You just wait for AT&T.

Agreed. Just wait for AT&T. They will offer SUPER-INSANE speeds soon and consumers will be able to use those speeds for 3 minutes PER MONTH! What a deal! For every minute used after that per month, it is $19.99.

AT&T has already released a statement claiming consumers win with this deal and that it is the only way they can deal with abusers over-using their networks by doing extreme things like checking email two-times-a-day (GASP!) and downloading multiple mp3's from iTunes (NOOOOOOOO!)

I love when people say things like this or make comments like how great at&t is. Its also funny how people actually believe that the iphone is better than the Thunderbolt!! I own an iphone on both networks and a Thunderbolt. My iphone on Verizon is for my wife and for at&t is for my job, the Thunderbolt is my personal phone. I hate to tell you all but the Thunderbolt only has 1 down fall and that is the battery which will be fixed with a software update and a bigger battery soon enough. But at least I can take my battery out and change it if I want and I can use the phone without a case on and not drop calls and I can hold it anyway I want and not have to worry about losing my call because of the botched antenna! I know people will come on here and say there is nothing wrong with the antenna and its been blown out of proportion. That's like me saying that the Thunderbolt doesn't have a battery issue. When apple gives out free bumpers, there is a problem, plain and simple...moving on!! Next the iphone 4 is the worst iphone to be released yet, with every update it gets worse. The antenna is a joke, the software is full of glitches. Yes its a very attractive phone but its been a botched phone from day 1 and people just need to accept it. Apple messed up with the antenna and the proximity sensor and the phone has suffered ever since. The Thunderbolt can do everything the iphone can plus some!! The pictures are just as good, the video's are just as good, it uses flash and I can go to any actually website and the page actually loads with no red x's in the page. The phone just flat out out performs the iphone in every way except the battery..period. I know everyone on here loves apple and absolutely refuses to believe that any other phone is superior to the iphone but its time to face the facts!! Now cloud has been introduced, that is just one more thing that android has over apple. Android is starting to trump the iphone in every area and that is a fact! I love it when people say just wait for at&t's LTE network...I will as soon as they get me 3G first!! Its pretty sad that I can't even get 3G and they are rolling out their new network already. The fact is at&t is behind the eight ball and have been for years when it comes to coverage area's, they are terrible. I will never use at&t again once this contract is up because although Verizon's 3G is not as fast, it covers almost 3 times the area of at&t's network. Now with LTE rolling out there is truly no comparison. It will be years before at&t catches up and when they do their coverage will still be less superior to Verizon's. I have never seen 50 mbps downloads on my Thunderbolt but I do see 25 to 30 daily and I can use all the data I want any time I want and I never have to worry about them taking it away. Its a beautiful thing!!

They are... light users won't see it, but other users who use the plan more aggressively are throttled. Do research and read statements from Verizon next time. Even they said so.

I'm sorry but I don't buy that entirely. My fiber optic home line through Time Warner is 36Mbps down and that is almost the fastest offered in SoCal.

Even Verizon said (watching the news a couple months back) they have peaked speeds at about 45Mbps. That's optimum conditions with no bandwidth being hogged.

IMO 52Mbps seems quite unrealistic for a phone.

Well, you need to start buying it. 4G networks have theoretical speeds of up to 100 Mb/s. That's 2x faster than the fake bench the OP gave.

That said, we are talking about a landline Internet service here, it's a Wireless service. Landlines can already handle 1Gb/s through fiber. You just don't see it advertised or sold just yet. Also, the 45Mb/s Verizon peaks at through FiOS is not their max, that's just the max speed they offer, but they are well capable of giving out more.

Even at less the optimum conditions, a landline will very well come close to the 45 Mb/s offered.

Wall of Text!!!

Battery is the downfall for me. I don't want to carry around an extra battery either.

AT&T is perfect in my neck of the woods and faster than Verizon here. Also, LTE isn't here yet (for any network).

iPhone hasnt given me any problems except for the dropped calls because of the antenna, so I will give you that one. I put a case on it (which I would do anyways) and it works great now.

No, they said they can/will if users go over their expected usage...but nobody has been throttled. Verizon is just making the statements to cya if they have to in the future.

I've done my research thank you kindly.

Right now on my 3G Verizon BlackBerry, I use about 120MB of data a month. I wonder if this will change when I upgrade in December to a 4G phone...?

No you haven't because you would've not have said that Verizon doesn't throttle. The statement is not a statement, its a warning.

Edit - I added more to the previous quote responding to another user about a fallacy. Look into that as well.

Yes. I bet you will anyways. Better apps and easier browsing will have you doing more on your phone.

The point made implied that the average daily user walking around on a Verizon iPhone isn't getting full speed due to being throttled. The statement as it was made was false.

My statement was not false, but did ignore the "potential" of users being throttled. But as it stands today, I challenge you to find a single iPhone user being throttled.

I obviously won't find one given the fact Verizon's network is too slow to get an actual reading when or when not throttled.

Verizon is not throttling anyone right now! They may hit the guys they know are tethering or using 15+ gigs a month and honestly they should on a 3G network. But I used 1.89 gigs in 36 hours on the new LTE network unintentionally. LTE chews through data so anyone who thinks that 2 gb's will last a month is sadly mistaken. I used that honestly just browsing and I was tethering my computer off my phone but nothing special. I wasn't abusing the system, but when a page loads instantly and browsing is such a different experience all the sudden you do use a little more than expected. But I would think that an average user like myself on the LTE network will probably use 5-8 or so gigs a month with ease and I bet they don't throttle anyone like me for doing so. Its to be expected with speeds that fast. Especially now since they are offering free tethering until next month.

LTE has a theoretical speed of well over double 52 mbps...
