Verizon Introduces $80 Unlimited Data Plan With 10GB of 4G LTE Tethering

Right and $65.00 sounds better than saying $85.00, marketing tactic huh? lol
It's like the cereal boxes in the stores, I swear there smaller packaging but there the same high price. marketing...
They advertise it as unlimited for $80 a month not $65. So they aren't trying to fool anyone.

Anyone get the new plan change document in their "My Billing > Documents" category? I see docs for my two other previous plans. Don't see one for the unlimited, yet.

For those stuck on the throttling issue...
[doublepost=1487044979][/doublepost]Is it just me, or did Verizon make some internal tweaks to their app display pages today, even though I didn't see an app update? I swear some of the app pages look different from last night.
There was a recent app update on the last few days. That said, it's likely various pages load content from the web or somewhere from a server, so that could be updated without the app being updated.

Okay...grandfathered UDP customer on Verizon. I've resisted giving up this plan for years because it is TRULY unlimited.

Who gave up their grandfathered UDP for this new unlimited plan?

I'm on fence. I usually use 40+ gigs a month. This month at 19 with 4 days left. Recently got much faster wifi at home so thinking I might be able to do this. Unlimited data and hotspot on grandfathered plan with unlimited talk and text is costing me over $200/mo. If it weren't for only 10gb of LTE hotspot I probably would've done jumped. ‍♂️

I'm paying ~$125/month for unlimited data and hotspot with 450 minutes and 1000 messages. My work phone (the only phone number anyone has for me) has an AT&T UDP including tethering and unlimited talk/text (technically the company shares an enormous pool of data but for all intents and purposes, it's unlimited). I almost exclusively use my Verizon phone for tethering (about 25 - 30 GB a month), but I could curtail that if I used my work phone for data more. It would save me about $40/month. Now that I'm thinking about it, I could really just cancel the Verizon line and only use my work phone, but I've held on to the UDP for security.

It's just SO hard to give up TRULY unlimited data, even at $125/month.

The new VZW plan is unlimited phone and tethering.

Yeah I'm not sure what to do. I just fear I'll get rid of my REAL UDP and have regrets and no going back. I figure one day the UDP Verizon will just send us a message and say pick new plan or bye bye but. My luck they'll throw us all off the real UDP after they cancel this wave of UDP ‍♂️

Yes, but tethering after 10 GB gets you glacial 3G speeds. I regularly tether more than that.

Exactly my conundrum.

This plan is kind of a kick in the pants for those of us like me who have two phones and two tablets since the tablet access fees go up. Also, a CSM rep told me that you don't need autopay for the $10 discount as long as you have paperless billing. Any truth to this?

Remember when the unlimited data plan was $30/mo? Pepperidge Farms remembers.

Does Pepperidge Farm remember that the $30/mo Data plan was IN ADDITION to your voice plan and text message plan?

When you had to pay something like $50/mo for 900 minutes and 500 texts... PLUS the $30 for Data?

Times change.

Back then... voice and texts were primary and data was secondary.

Now it's reversed. In fact... voice and texts have become so devalued today that everyone just gets them included. No more counting minutes and text messages anymore.

Your bill is based mostly on data today.

So it doesn't make sense to ask "Remember when data was $30/mo?"

Because it's a whole different environment now.

Or better yet, the 100 minute plans, with unlimited night and weekends. Everyone waited until evening to make their phone calls. If you wanted to text, that was $0.25 per text, whether incoming or outgoing. My unlimited data plan with limited minutes and texts cost more than what they are offering now for unlimited. Back then, unlimited data was at a blazing 1 Mbps on a good day.

Wow this new unlimited data plan is making me think about jumping off of my grandfathered unlimited with 450 mins to save $10 a month...

Anyone else with the grandfathered unlimited make the jump to this plan?
I have the exact plan with the talk snd text data discount so hard to leave it thought i never will .... hmm decisions

Because different things cost different prices for different reasons in different countries. What else is new about something rather basic that has been that way for ages when it comes to many things?
- It's nothing new. Just bizarre to read about for us.

But then, car prices here are probably higher by the same factor that carrier subscriptions are for you.

Maybe this was already mentioned somewhere in this long thread.

But, I spoke to Verizon yesterday and they told me the 22GB cap is for the whole family not just per line!!

It's gonna cost me nearly $300 a month with taxes for 4 lines on the unlimited plan since I won't be getting the 19% corp. discount That's a $20 increase from my XXL plan.

Btw, has any one gone over 22GB yet??

That $300 estimate doesn't sound right. Verizon CS on Twitter told someone, that 4 lines would be 180 + taxes and fees. Double check that.

I would happily pay $10 to access a site that compares current plans after plugging in my phones/data needs. Not a complaint but an idea I believe ... if not available already. ?

They didn't answer me on twitter when i asked about still charging us $20+ extra for legacy customers. They just directed me to sign up for the new plan. Shady AF.

Let's improve call quality, bring on the HD-voice!
iphone 6 and above have HD voice, You just need another person with the same handset to activate.

If the whole difference is +/- 10 dollars then just stay where u are. You should check though to see if your grandfathered plan includes hd video and free tethering because my gut feeling is that it does not. Let us know how u make out.

Why don't you call customer service and get your question answered?

That's still not unlimited... Just like in Japan, once you hit 7GB of 4G in a month (or 10 in the USA) your phone's data slows waaaaay down to the point of being useless. And then they charge ridiculous costs for an extra gig or two.
Yes it is. First, the 10GB then throttled to 3G speeds is only for tethering. You get unlimited LTE phone data. The only gotcha is you may experience slower speeds after 22GB if in a congested area, but it's not going to be a hard throttle to 2G/3G speeds.

Don't forget about the line access fee of 20 or 40, depending if you're on the device payment plan.
Correct. This is what the charges look like.
Incorrect, the $80 includes the line access fee.
I'm very confused... What does tethering mean?
Turning your phone into a WiFi hotspot and connecting other devices like laptops and tablets.

No proof that it's included. But there is proof that there is a line access fee as of today. Not sure if the fee is applied come tomorrow.
Yes there is proof, Verizon specifically said it in a press release.

Show me where Verizon is advertising this as $65. Every single ad I've seen shows them advertising it as $80 for a single line.

I'm not, but that's only because I'm still under contract and pay $68/mo after tax for my grandfathered line.
