De-priorizitation is not the same thing as throttling. To say that it is, is to deny that words have specific meanings.

And to those that keep rambling on about the application of "congestion," may I remind you, that the U.S. carrier you are with now has the same kind of provision. When in doubt, refer back to my first sentence.

Make a decision. This isn't a life and death situation.

And for the upteenth time, the new Verizon plan is not capped at 22GB. If some of you can't read or understand such a basic phone plan contract, you probably have no business signing on the dotted line.
Using words such as de-proritzation,throttle, congestion without further explanation is basically saying we will use them to our discretion and tuff luck if you don't like our definition. It's as simple as that. Can u imagine the electric company telling you that your light bulbs will dim after using x amount of kW during congestion?

With all due respect, you did say that you didnt understand the network and infrastructure in Manhattan, yet you want to be explained what the deprioritization policy will be. Would you understand it if they explained it to you? VZW telling you that after 22 GB you may be slowed during periods of congestion is transparent. If you feel they're bring unfair in the process, please bring it up and provide evidence with what you're experiencing. These online forums will be more than glad to hear you out.

As for infrastructure in Manhattan, it's a mess. Cell carriers are mounted everywhere on every block. The whole city has antennas on top and on the side of buildings. Interference runs rampant there, but it'll do for now. You're right that you can't compare it to other cities, but we can get an idea at least.
I just wish there was more transparency . Words such as congestion, throttle, de-proritzation or the many other terms which are used are very open ended in translation. It needs to be explained in better term and be more transparent. And mind you ,this is why the federal government came down on them in the first place because they used the word "throttle". De prioritization is really not much better understood.

You mention that the rep said that you can expect this new unlimited to be raised in price in September, then why on earth would u switch from your old grandfather plan?

"De-prioritization simply means that if the tower does not have enough spectrum to fulfil all requests for information at a time, users who have used over 22gb in that month with have to wait until all other requests have been serviced. That may sound scary but this often times will take anywhere from a tenth of a second to 3 or 4 seconds. "Congestion" typically only occurs in few second burst but if you were in a scenario where thousands of people are in one location, IE LAX airport, it could be minutes. This also depends on the spectrum deployed and what your phone can handle, the more bands then less possibility of congestion"

So in hindsight, the complaint in these forums should be "how can we know if the network is congested"

With the return response is, it's so minimal you would not know the difference if Verizon hadnt' spelled it out for you. It's one of those things where if they never said it, you wouldn't know. But they have to because of the competition.

Verizon has been very clear on what de-priorization means as it pertains to the new plan. If you want to continue to read some kind of hidden nefarious meaning into what has been stated numerous times, have at it.

Every U.S. carrier that I am aware of follows the same kind of practice. And yet, you feel a need to worry about Verizon's language. Save yourself some stress and don't sign up with Verizon. That way, you don't have to keep playing the conspiracy game.

That's absolutely not what I said.

I mentioned that the rep said you can expect the grandfathered plan to be increased as further incentive to make people switch, which is all honesty, you should.

To be truthfully honest though, I'm almost certain us UDP users have been deprioritized for years, as I've seen hiccups and stuttering with my network even with them saying we aren't throttled, or the like :) .
[doublepost=1487103702][/doublepost]

I absolutely agree in terms of what you said. What ultimately made me switch was the feeling of being like a fugitive on the run with unlimited data just to say I have it. Now with this data, I am still going to use it as I have been, and if the speed "slows", I'm almost certain it wouldn't be noticeable unless you just feel to nitpick at the sake of saying "im grandfathered" but for me once being one of those guys, I got tired of Verizon simply raising my UDP 10-15 dollars for "truly" unlimited data knowing that they had been deprioritizing us from the jump. I'm sure with this new plan, it will be similar to how the same network we've been using getting 30-40gb will be.

Issue is people are more focused on Verizon being transparent for once and saying "22gb". They did them a service by not being elusive, and now they can't go back on it. This saves us from 15-20 articles of people saying "I'm at 23gb, noticed a slowdown?" "I'm at 277gb notice a slowdown".

Other carriers caused Verizon to be more structured in their price model and offer up transparency, and I'm getting while the gettings good. The 22gb doesn't scare me because it is still 4g at the end of the day. If you're purposely wanting to "stick it to Verizon" by overpaying for grandfathered plans but essentially getting the same output, there's no win there. Save yourself some coin and get the same recipe.
Is switching to this new plan locking u in for another 2 years?

That $300 estimate doesn't sound right. Verizon CS on Twitter told someone, that 4 lines would be 180 + taxes and fees. Double check that.

It's right. 3 out of 4 of us still paying for our devices. The plan starts at $110 add the $173 we pay every month for 4 devices + taxes comes out close to $300.

Just had to double check the calendar to make sure it's not April Fool's Day.

At first I thought it meant it was $80 for unlimited data, but then saw it includes talk and text as well. So by my understanding, for me being on a solo plan I could get unlimited talk text and data for JUST $80 a month? That hardly seems true. What's the catch?
Maxes out at 10GB of data, so its "unlimited" to the same extent that the 4th amendment prevents "unreasonable searches and seizures" like civil forfeiture.
Verizon should really call this the "10GB per month plan" but we are in a time of alternative facts, so "unlimited" it is.

The 10 GB is related to 4G/LTE tethering use, which simply becomes 3G after that. The mobile data doesn't have that 10 GB limit (it can be subject to deprioritization after 22 GB of data used on a line, but it would still get data).

After over 25 pages of this discussion where this has been brought up on most pages, how is it that people are still getting it wrong?

So much misinformation in this thread. I've been through all 61 pages and have seen users clarify the policy time and time again only to have others come in and screw it all up.

To start, I have AT&T's DTV Unlimited Plan. I have been subjected to the 22 GB deprioritization threshold pretty much every month. Want to see what speeds look like on a deprioritized line in Manhattan on a Saturday evening (midtown and Lexington Ave) and Sunday morning (downtown and Houston St)?

What can we conclude? That these were the worst-case scenario tests for me. Could some have been faster? Maybe, but does that really matter?

The threshold is on a per line basis. I'll say it again:

DEPRIORITIZATION AT 22 GB IS ON A PER LINE BASIS. You MAY be slowed in times of congestion. Most of you wouldn't know if it hit you. From what I know, it is rare & I believe you're put at the bottom of the postpaid pool on that tower. The worst-case is behind postpaid and prepaid - no way are you under MVNOs.

Anyway, I just felt the need to address all the crying going on here. Also to the Euros chiming in on your cheap plans - great for you. You wouldn't be saying the same if your provider had to cover the entire lower 48 of the U.S. Look up how much more square mileage the U.S. has over your country. We have more towers, which leads to jogger maintenance costs, and the list goes on. Square miles/cost and you'll see our ratio is higher.
Those speeds look better than my dsl internet provides.

Hmmm. What happens when you have six phones and one tablet? I have an AT&T 15GB Mobile Share plan with my family's six phones and tablet. Is there a way to have the unlimited plan with all seven devices?

Also, all of the phones are still locked in the Next plan. What would happen if I wanted to change the carrier?
You may have received an answer - I talked to Verizon yesterday - we currently have 9 lines - 5 cellualar iPads and, 3 iPhones , plus 1 flip phone (kids emergency phone). We have the XL Plan (24GB of data) plus bonus 2GB of bonus data i received when I bought one of my kids a new iPhone. I pay 325 per month now 9with taxes and everything) - I get a discount with my company. This new unlimited plan was going to cost me approx 75 bucks additional - the issue is they are raising the line fee to 20 bucks from $10 for iPads. We don't usually go over our data - but the iPads are all new (Christmas gifts) so I'm not sure if I will have to make the switch. The things I do not like - 1) they will not honor corporate discounts on the unlimited plans and 2) 20 fee for iPads rather than the current 10 bucks. I travel and we live on a horse farm, so VZ has the best coverage for our family...I've had them for a LONG time.

I wanted to add an iPad pro 12.9 to my line but they are not shipping until around March 30 I believe. I'm still tempted to get it though but I found out today that Apple might release a new ipad in March and that's the reason why every place is sold out right now. I hate to buy one and lose my udp for this new unlimited plan with payments for the ipad pro, pay more monthly for the new udp plan and ipad, then apple release a new ipad after that I would be pissed!

Yeah, I have veteran discount as well or I probably wouldn't consider this.
I can NOT apply my current corporate discount to this Unlimited Plan but It's GREAT VZ is allowing the Military discount! I see your note says veterans also - does anyone know if VZ offers a military veterans discount as well (I am a veteran)? Thanks

Just a word of advice for those who don't know - go to Best Buy if you're coming from a different carrier. Their port-in deals are nice, like the Galaxy S7/Edge for $8/$10 month with $200 gift card. Sounds tempting to say the least..

Free from Verizon sounds nice as well.

I gave up my grandfathered nationwide plan with unlimited data. I Got rid of a dumb phone line, swapped a 2gb iPhone line, a 8gb iPhone line and my unlimited line. My bill went from $305 to $224 plus tax. I also talked them into lowering the $40 device fee on my one line under contract to the $20 fee. I also didn't have tethering with my old plan so it's a win for me. I only use between 12-16gb a month anyways.

I've tried several times to get them to budge on the $40 contract access fee and they won't move it's frustrating.

3. Re: For unlimited, if i bring family members on for 45 a month, do they share my pool of 22gb lte or get their own seperate?

No. The hotspot has a hard cap at 10GB and then throttling to 600 mbps.

The phone has soft cap at 22GB and then deprioritization after that. That means in many cases the speed will continue at the same full speed. Only when the tower is congested would you slow down. In most cases it will be faster than the throttling of the hotspot
If anyone goes over 10 GB for tethering, let us know what the "3G" speed is. I've been quite curious.
