Is this true??

I have two iPhones and it is nothing near $250. A friend of mine has a Verizon non-iPhone that comes in higher (nearly $200/mo) than the two iPhones.

I have 2 iPhones and 1 "dumb" phone on an AT&T Family Plan w/ 700 minutes and an employer discount. My bill is $178/month. Maybe he's on a higher minutes plan?

I'm grandfathered in to unlimited data, plus I tether with MyWi on my jailbroken iPhone. The simultaneous voice/data is not the ONLY deal breaker for me, since AT&T service is normally good for me.

What I want to see is some competition in PRICE. I am sick of paying a pound of Flesh for 2 iPhones. At least they both have unlimited data.

Also, I wonder if Verizon will limit VOIP apps like Skype.

Did people complain when Verizon Android phones could not handle both voice and data at the same time? Nope. That's because the iPhone is held to a higher standard. I wouldn't use a privacy-scraping Google device for anything...

All that being said, it is a good thing that iPhone is on Verizon, we love choice and competition. I think you will see iPhone on Sprint and T-Mobile to follow. Sure glad I have AAPL stock.

verizon won't limit skype, they have a great relationship with skype with their droid phones

I don't really think so. CDMA and GSM are different technology. It would be like hack a walkie talkie to connect to a mobile phone - I guess.

blackberry has been making phones since years , with CDMA + GSM both in one. is this not going to be the case here? that means no sim card option at all?

Apples Big Lie Revealed...

Nothing wrong with the original iPhone 4 antenna?
What a con job.

Verizon could see right through Apple and demanded a better antenna.

Apple will lie AGAIN and say it's because CDMA requires a "different antenna"

One fact remains, Apple are world class liars, and smart enough to be sure they didn't screw up the Verizon phone.

wow, you sound like an antenna expert! Maybe you shouldve been on the design team!

AT&T has provided a horrific experience because they were the exclusive iPhone carrier. Now that Verizon has stepped in, we can immediately feel the impact of COMPETITION.

Unlimited data, mobile hotspot, a network that actually works for voice and data, and more to come. AT&T will now be forced to compete. This is why the Justice Department looked into the AT&T exclusivity. AT&T was able to give us horrible service, because it could - if someone wanted an iPhone they were forced to deal with AT&T which couldn't even provide what was promised let alone features other carriers were giving away.

I believe the best news came in the QA session. There is no exclusivity agreement for CDMA. T-Mobile, Sprint, and etc are sure to get the iPhone too! This is a big day for consumers in the US.

Isn't T-Mobile on GSM but on a different band range than ATT?

Will you be able to text and surf at the same time?

I thought that texting was run over the voice network, which is why they charge extra, versus data.

Question

I don't think for AT&T customers, the lack of voice/data at the same time will be an issue. My calls get cut off before I have the chance to use the web...but question about the Mi-fi....how much of a battery does it kill? The iphone battery isn't a real gem to begin with.

Dear AT&T,

Allow the Personal WiFi hotspot (tethering) at either no cost, or a minimal one time fee...now please.

Sincerely,
All your customers that may think of switching if you don't

P.S.
I love competition...don't you ?

Mobile wi-fi hotspot?! (aka tethering)

Count me in! So long AT&T!

Just don't plan on making/receiving calls during critical downloads. I'd hate to begin a 100 mb file transfer, have it stopped (via a voice call) and then start over again....there goes all my megabytes!

If done properly, the device will drop data, ring, and prevent access to the data network. However since the wifi hotspot will exist even when in a call, the devices will still be connected to the iPhone, they won't however be able to get outside data until the call is ended.

oooh ok well that makes since...i just was wondering i wasnt sure if when using the internet or hotspot and you get a call or text it will just send you to voicemail or just receive the text whenever you get off the internet you know. cant wait to have this

I actually still try to understand if there are two different iPhones or one with both CDMA & GSM. However if you have both you are suppose to use one network or the other, so... I don't know what you are saying...

Aka Verizon cripples iPhone. No data use (google / maps / etc) during phone calls? FAIL:

why fail?

In four years of owning iPhones I never, not a single time used the internet while I was talking on the phone.

As long as calls get priority and interrupt the internet use so that I don't miss calls there is no difference to what I do now. So again why is this a fail?

I watched the leak video a few days ago, and although the break points are the same as the Verizon iPhone released today, there was also a SIM card slot that they emphasized was in the same position as the current iPhone.

This would mean that although similar to what was released today, the leak is probably the next GSM iPhone. Which leads some suspicion to Tim Cook saying the break points are due to the CDMA network (not antenna gate).

People are automatically assuming iPhone 5 will be for Verizon too... I seriously doubt that will be the case. I think AT&T will continue to get the June/July Launch, while Verizon will have a non-event catchup in January. It makes absolutely no sense to release iphone 5 in 6 months and piss off all these newly happy Verizon iphone users.

I wouldnt be surprised if we dont see another verizon iPhone until June 2012, and from that point launch them side by side. The fact that no comment was made on whether the Verizon iphone would get a yearly refresh indicates that this is a test of their network and customer feedback. Then if all goes well then the next launch will be LTE in 2012.

Two different iPhones. One CDMA, one GSM.
