Can someone explain something to me. If I am on the Verizon iPhone 4, surfing away, and a call comes in, does the call go to voice mail, or will it ring?

People that have droid phones tell me it goes to voice mail.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

This is where I'm at... I could cancel my ipad data plan and save $30 a month. That savings would be more then my fees to break my contract.

Actually, maybe not. Wait to see what the charge is for the hotspot. Hopefully it will still be less. I think they charge $15/mo for tethering.

Cdma

For everyone wondering about Pandora radio and the simultaneous voice& data:

I have a CDMA HTC Desire and I can listen to Pandora, receive SMS, MMS, and of course browse the web. When it comes to phone calls, pandora halts, like you would want anyway, you are unable to browse the web unless you are using WiFi, and you can still send text messages that are not MMS.

So, No, while using a hotspot you will not miss a bunch of phone calls and text messages and receive multiple notifications after you are done with the hotspot or browsing the web.

It is suppose to give priority to voice. Data will stop and the call should come through.

Now a few years ago that didn't work perfect for me when I was with a CDMA company but sounds like from others it has improved where the calls are coming through.

Ok so the data will stop, phone call or text will come through and the devices connected to the network will not be on line during that is that right?

You won't lose the call while you are on internet

Typically the music will stop and the phone call or SMS will come through. I believe the network/phone is structured in such a way that they hold precedence over the other data being transmitted. I'm not 100 percent sure though, I've never had an issue while using Pandora on my Incredible with missing SMS or calls. I know I have been running with Pandora and Runkeeper on and gotten SMS notifications that came through, if not a phone call.

None of the call get lost while you are browsing the web. You will be notified right away and it's up to you that you will get the call or not. This is how all CDMA (and other mobile standard) work. It's just that you won't be able to google while you are talking on the phone.

I am not 100% sure but I think SMS (and other notfication) is considered as data service not voice service. In this case, you won't see any difference between CDMA and HSPA (the techmology ATT is currently using).

Well here it is. So where are all the posters that said verizon will never get the iphone, or will be years down the road from when iphone 4 came out. Lol

The new antenna has four break points near each of the corners. The current GSM iPhone has 3 break points.

On the current GSM iPhone, there are two antennas between these three break points: one for GSM/UMTS and the other for Bluetooth, GPS, and Wi-Fi.

I don't understand why Apple couldn't use the added break points in the new CDMA iPhone to give voice and data their own separate antennas.

coo is on CNBC saying that they havent announced iphone plans just yet i have a feeling it isnt going to be unlimited because thats what the tv guy asked

The real AT&T advantage though is that CDMA limitation of voice and data. People play it down, but I use that feature constantly, searching for a restaurant while talking, checking game scores, etc. That is the ultimate "multi-task", not whether I can play Missile Command while editing a photo.

Just because there is no problem at all. iPhone 4 has better reception than 3GS and all other pda i have and my friends too. You have problem in low coverage area, like with any other phone exist in this world only if you cover with you hand the antenna, which is present in any phone. Surprise surprise?

the whole point of my statement was the supposition that apple made a new and better antenna that possibly works better than the first one that the first iphone 4 owners will never have.

thank you for making my comment look like it was made by an idiot. i praise your skills in intrepreting other people's opinions.

They are wrong. It will pause the data, the call will come through, and the data will start again after the call is over.

Grandfathered?

i hope the overall pricing will be better. I hate to pay a mandatory $250 for 2 phones with AT&T. Such a rip off. I wish we get more competition in the USA.

Is this true??

I have two iPhones and it is nothing near $250. A friend of mine has a Verizon non-iPhone that comes in higher (nearly $200/mo) than the two iPhones.

As long as Verizon offers an unlimited data plan at a reasonable price...

Currently, the hotspot feature on the Droid Incredible is $20 extra on top of the $30 data plan. I'm assuming this will be similar.
