I've understood why Apple would have photos taken down in the past, but for a change in the antenna??? What could possibly have been so secretive about that?

Competition is a good thing.

AT&T has provided a horrific experience because they were the exclusive iPhone carrier. Now that Verizon has stepped in, we can immediately feel the impact of COMPETITION.

Unlimited data, mobile hotspot, a network that actually works for voice and data, and more to come. AT&T will now be forced to compete. This is why the Justice Department looked into the AT&T exclusivity. AT&T was able to give us horrible service, because it could - if someone wanted an iPhone they were forced to deal with AT&T which couldn't even provide what was promised let alone features other carriers were giving away.

I believe the best news came in the QA session. There is no exclusivity agreement for CDMA. T-Mobile, Sprint, and etc are sure to get the iPhone too! This is a big day for consumers in the US.

ATT has tethering now, not mobile hotspot. they are different. And i dont think ATT will offer hotspot. If they want to charge an extra $15 for that they are crazy. I think the new firmware shipped will be 4.3 included is CDMA support and the daily and thats it. I really want the mobile hotspot but im not getting my hopes up. But if this is going to lighten ATT's data load and they already have the fastest broadband network they really should offer it but they are in it for money so thats not coming.

Not planning on switching back even though I am on the fence about Voice/Data at the same time on AT&T or Free WiFi Hotspot on VZ, however it will be interesting what they charge for a data package in all and if AT&T brings back unlimited Data.

It would be sweet if AT&T gives us Free WiFi Hotspot or charges like $5 per month bc I still have unlimited Data, and AT&T works really well for me, just not going to VZ unless AT&T doesn't make a move.

Yes, using Google Maps requires constant data. Using something like TomTom is a different story.

the new google maps on android offers caching, so it doesn't require constant data, but i'm not sure the iphone got the new maps yet.

Looks like the mute switch was moved on the actual design.

Current iPhone 4 cases will probably not work with the Verizon one. I hope these sites can confirm that ASAP for us vendors :(

It'll depend on the case probably. I'd expect to see more cases just leave a larger space for volume/mute switch buttons.

The new antenna has four break points near each of the corners. The current GSM iPhone has 3 break points.

On the current GSM iPhone, there are two antennas between these three break points: one for GSM/UMTS and the other for Bluetooth, GPS, and Wi-Fi.

I don't understand why Apple couldn't use the added break points in the new CDMA iPhone to give voice and data their own separate antennas.

Because is due to the CDMA technology, not the phone. That happens on any other phone using CDMA.

You have to understand that CDMA is an older technology, that is why many network have been using GSM for years and why CDMA is not so popular.

But to be honest I don't know much about CDMA as I don't have it here, this is just what I heard from other people.

The version on the demo units is 4.2.5.

Currently, the hotspot feature on the Droid Incredible is $20 extra on top of the $30 data plan. I'm assuming this will be similar.

That's reasonable...as long as it's unlimited...You can eat up a lot of data if it's convenient like when using the iPhone as a mobile hotspot.

Calls and SMS take priority on the phones vs. data. When you are connected to the phones browser or data apps or using the wifi hotpsot the data connection will pause and the phone will ring our chime with a text notification. After the call is complete your data connection will resume.

I'm grandfathered in to unlimited data, plus I tether with MyWi on my jailbroken iPhone. The simultaneous voice/data is not the ONLY deal breaker for me, since AT&T service is normally good for me.

What I want to see is some competition in PRICE. I am sick of paying a pound of Flesh for 2 iPhones. At least they both have unlimited data.

Also, I wonder if Verizon will limit VOIP apps like Skype.

Did people complain when Verizon Android phones could not handle both voice and data at the same time? Nope. That's because the iPhone is held to a higher standard. I wouldn't use a privacy-scraping Google device for anything...

All that being said, it is a good thing that iPhone is on Verizon, we love choice and competition. I think you will see iPhone on Sprint and T-Mobile to follow. Sure glad I have AAPL stock.

Prepared .... yeah, but for what!

Wow... they prepared the network.... Even the FAQ is overwhelmed. It took three or four attempts to get the page to open. Not a good sign.

If they came right out and said they redesigned the antenna, that would be an admission that the original model had an antenna issue, which they never did. But, by having to redesign for CDMA, they can say that is why it was redesigned without admitting anything.

A WiFi hotspot sounds good until you have to disconnect to make or receive a call. No thanks!

It's really not as bad as you think, at least for me anyways. I can count on one hand how many times I've needed simultaneous data/voice, sure it would be handy from time to time and when its eventually available it'll be a nice feature, but definitely not a deal breaker in my experience.

Aka Verizon cripples iPhone. No data use (google / maps / etc) during phone calls? FAIL:

For heavy phone users, this could become a problem. But for people like me, I probably use my phone for voice calls maybe totalling 5 minutes a day? Everything else is text, email, apps. So, at least for me, I could care less about that feature.

Because that's not how a phone works? In your example the phone would have to manage and maintain two separate connections to towers, one for voice and one for data. Now that would absolutely murder the battery and probably not even work right.

Well I'm unhappy with the announcement because I was hoping for more. Hoping for LTE or the ability to use voice/data at the same time with Verizon. Guess I was just hoping for too much.

Yes, no one realistically thought that it'd be THAT huge. Wait for iPhone 5 and you'll get that. As Tim Cook said, they wanted to get in on Verizon ASAP because people kept asking for it NOW.
