Can you confirm or not confirm that the post that went around that stated verizon will cut the loophole of upgrading a basic phone then switching it with another line and putting the basic phone back on the line and removing the data plan.

I spoke with some reps online and in store and they all haven't heard that if you put a basic phone back on a line you have to keep a data plan on it.

I haven't heard of that either.

Is the case still that Verizon customers with iphones can't multi-task with iphones e.g. be on a phone call while surfing the web? I know in the past only AT&T customers had that privilege.

Thanks!

That's a network limitation (GSM vs CDMA) but Volte will change that. Soon. ;)

Can you find an article that isn't a rumor? I've not seen this personally or heard of it prior to this.

from verizon:

Can I transfer upgrade eligibility from one line to another?

If you have multiple devices on your account and one is eligible for an upgrade, you can transfer upgrade eligibility to another line on your account when upgrading your device in My Verizon. When you transfer eligibility from one line to another, the original line is no longer eligible for the upgrade discount.

that much we knew.

Am I required to have a data package on my line if I get a smartphone under contract?

Customers on price plans other than The MORE Everything Plan who purchase a smartphone on a new two-year agreement must have a data package (minimum $30/month) for the two-year term, even if you change devices.

bolding is my emphasis, but it looks like any line that's upgraded needs to keep the data plan, regardless of changing phones to a dumb phone.

Was that from a rep. I find it odd that the reps in the store nor the rep on the phone call I had with them knew of it. It's also no place online except on forums.

According to all of the reps I spoke to they said verizon can't do it as the computer will automaticly cancel the plan as how can they charge for data that you can't use if it's a basic phone.

I think this was a rumor started being that it was suppose to go into effect almost a month ago.

How long am I required to have the new phone on my line before I can do my ETF and not be responsible for anything more then then EFT fees?

Can I cancel day one and just pay the ETF or do I have to wait a certain amount of time?

I was told this as well from a rep and someone from the retention department. As this is how I used to maintain my unlimited data plan. However, they apparently changed the wording in the contracts now that you are required to maintain a data package on the line no matter if you have a smartphone or not...

Main reason I will be changing carries once I get my new iPhones.

i talked to a rep in the store that said a customer tried to downgrade to the dumb phone and the data plan was still there and couldn't be taken off, that it couldn't even be modified. Isn't the cheapest way to get a line of service and then cancel and pay ETF as opposed to paying full retail price?

Do a web search for august operational updates. Multiple web sites are reporting this.

How do I add AppleCare+ to my iPhone 6? That option wasn't available on the verizon wireless preorder page. When I asked a Rep he said they do sell it and it has to be purchased at the same time with a phone. So why wasn't it on the preorder wizard?

I'm guessing I need to bring my new iPhone 6 into an Apple Store and buy AppleCare there so they can document the phone?

Thanks,
Michael

Even if you change carriers you are still responsible for the fees resulting from upgrading a line.

you can either take your phone to the store, or you can call and buy over the phone.

How to get AppleCare+
  • At an Apple Retail Store (requires inspection of your iPhone and proof of purchase)
  • By calling (800) 275-2273 (requires you to run a remote diagnostic and provide proof of purchase)

To anyone who want to participate in Verizon's $200 iPhone trade-in program, hopefully you preordered directly from Verizon.

Had to cancel my preorders from Apple after Verizon told me, any preorders outside from them would not be allowed to participate in the $200 trade in program.

No I understand the responsibility for the fees of purchasing the phone. I just wasn't sure if I had to maintain the service for X amount of days before canceling. I just do not want Verizon to try and charge me for the full price of the phone.

I simply want to just have to pay the ETF and usage from the month depending on the contract dates and how far along I am in to my month.

I think you should be prepared to give verizon the 720 + ETF if you walk away. Nobody has done it yet obviously, but if VZW is locking you into a 2 year data contract they are going to want their money.

I'd have me one this coming Friday, but nooooo. Verizon's website kept giving me an error about an ECPD Profile, what ever that means. This is even with them opening up online preorders at about. 2:55a EST too! Now I must go stand in with the mobs with hopes of securing one on launch day. Booo....

I am sorry if this has been answered but

I have 4 lines
1=unlimited main line (upgrade available)
2=2GB data (no upgrade at this time)
3=Dumb phone no data (upgrade available)
4=Dumb phone no data (upgrade available)

so far I moved the #1 upgrade from #1 to #2 and pre ordered 6+ on #2 line
When it comes in I want to switch #2 6+ to line #1 (should not be a problem?)(so I activate first on line2 then switch?)

then take either #3 or #4 and transfer to #2 and get a 6 for line 2 (do I have to wait any amount of time to do this and is it possible?)

That was related to people with corporate discounts I believe. I had the same error, ordered around 4am, and I'm getting a phone this friday. Although I had no interest in the 6+ (I assume that is what you want)

I'm thinking you are going to have to try it, but it probably won't work. Since you already used line 2 as an upgrade, you are locked into that line for 2 years and can't reuse it as another upgrade; unless VZW allows you an early upgrade on that line (won't happen).

I don't think you will get away with what you are thinking. For every phone purchased on subsidy you have to commit to a two year data plan on the line you used the upgrade.

you mean the $720 being the data fees? Not sure how when I read in the contract that for early termination its just the $350 fee for smart phones.

Not sure how they can require you to still pay for a data fee once you break the contract with the ETF they require.

Yes indeed I am after the 6 plus. I spoke with my VZW friend and he said he may be able to hold one aside for me, but not guaranteed. Hopefully I can get some VIP treatment and get it purchased before they even open :)

It'll just be the usage while you had the phone, the activation/renewal fee, and ETF.
