It'll just be the usage while you had the phone, the activation/renewal fee, and ETF.

Thanks, that is how I read it. Since I plan on switching the phones over to Tmobile day 1 I will have no usage on the phone really.

I have been answering various Verizon questions that are strewn across this forum, so I thought I would make a thread for someone to ask a question and I'll answer it, just to help out the community. Obviously I will not disclose my position, but I am capable of providing fact driven answers to most questions! Also, if you have any Sprint related questions, I can help out as well.

Let's get started!

Question about returns to verizon. If the phone is brand new is there a restocking fee? I pre ordered a iphone 6 by adding a new line. I currently have a 5s via edge and was just going to pay it off when I received the iphone 6 on Friday, I pre ordered on a new line because I was only able to finance $471 on edge and having to pay $180 down due to all our lines having edge. But I really want a 64gb. When I go into Verizon and pay off my line I have now, will the amount I just paid of be available via financing right away? If I'm able to return my iphone 6 that I pre ordered I would have $471 to finance and when I pay off the line I currently have with a 5s I should have over $800 to finance if that shows up right away. Sorry what I just wrote probably doesn't make much since.

I purchased 4 iPhone 5S in May on a Share Everything plan. My upgrade isn't due until May of 2016. Is there anything I can do to somehow upgrade to the 6? Obviously I would be trading in all 4 5S but I would hate to wait for ~2 years.

Is there any reason to not take the $300 credit and upgrade a 5s to a 6? Contract term doesn't bother me and the new features, while not compelling, are nevertheless appealing.

Is there any downside that I'm missing?

If I'm 22 months into my 24 month contract with Verizon and I want to upgrade early with "Edge", do I still have to trade in my iPhone 5?

You don't have to do anything with your iPhone. Verizon is offering money for it (although it looks like it dropped to $200) so you could take their offer or find a better offer or what not.

I'm not sure about that. If Verizon requires you to agree to keep a two year data plan to be kept on a line that was used to purchase a subsidized phone than I would think that also has to be paid.

As this is a new policy, I don't think anyone knows.

This is exactly the type of thing Verizon is trying to prevent, which is why the policy was issued.

You can read between the lines to determine if cancelling the contract and paying the ETF includes the data line as well.

I got my 64gb 5s on launch day last year and switched to the Edge program at the same time. I have met the mark in payments to swap phones but online it is telling me I have to wait until 10/20? Would I qualify for the early Edge upgrade?

I see what your saying but from what I am reading directly from the contract policy it states that only the ETF of $350 is due at the end and $10 less for every month of service completed.

I will be calling verizon tomorrow to further verify the exact terms of the contract policy in regards to early termination of the contract.

i have an upgrade on NOT my line. if i sign in tomorrow through the website move the upgrade over to my line then can i pre order???

Just upgrade the line that is available, and switch them after you receive it. It seems risky doing it the other way around.

I am on a family share plan with 4 lines and 8 GB of data being shared. I got an iphone 5S on launch day last yr with my upgrade. With this new VZW offer to trade in a 5S for $300 if I sign a new contract, how would that work exactly? Will I be charged an ETF? Will I get the new phone at the subsidized price? If I decide to go this route would I be able to switch this one line to the Edge program and still be within the family share plan, and should I go about that if I plan on getting the 6S next yr as well?

I've searched but couldn't find an answer to my question.

If I preorder a 6+ ( at this point optimistically mid October ship date) can i try my luck at finding one locally on launch day? I mean would there be complications with my verizon account since I have to put my account info in to pre-order it and get the new contract price? I'd hate to pre-order then find one locally only to be told i have to pay full price since I used my account online to pre-order. I hope I've explained this well.

The ETF is still what is this you owe to break the contract. That hasn't changed with this policy. The policy is what the actual lines say and not really what might be between them as they can't enforce something that's not in the actual terms and while the data part has been added to the terms that hasn't chnaged anything in relation to ETF (otherwise that change would need to be made there in the terms as well).

I would call CS and ask if it uses your upgrade.

I am sorry if this has been answered but

I have 4 lines
1=unlimited main line (upgrade available)
2=2GB data (no upgrade at this time)
3=Dumb phone no data (upgrade available)
4=Dumb phone no data (upgrade available)

so far I moved the #1 upgrade from #1 to #2 and pre ordered 6+ on #2 line
When it comes in I want to switch #2 6+ to line #1 (should not be a problem?)(so I activate first on line2 then switch?)

then take either #3 or #4 and transfer to #2 and get a 6 for line 2 (do I have to wait any amount of time to do this and is it possible?)

It's my understanding that if you EVER use the upgrade on your UDP line you will lose it. By transferring that upgrade to another line you may have lost your UD. :-(

i think you should be prepared to give verizon the 720 + etf if you walk away. Nobody has done it yet obviously, but if vzw is locking you into a 2 year data contract they are going to want their money.

lol

verizons website was working like crap so i just ordered it full price through apple. i figure if i sell my iPad mini and my iPhone 5s which i was gonna do anyway it should net a decent amount of money to almost cover the full price of a 6+ 64gb

Well that is no longer true if VZW changed the terms of using a subsidy. Now is it? If you are agreeing to pay for a data plan for 2 years by buying a phone on subsidy, by breaking your contract you still owe the remainder of the data plan.

edit: Of course, I don't know that for a fact, but I don't think you do either.

when you sign the contract in the first place, you agree to pay monthly bills for two years. yet when you break the contract, you aren't owed the normal billing rate times the number of months remaining on contract, are you? that's what the etf is for.

You need to verify this and don't assume. After you call, let us know.

But there is a new wrinkle. You are also agreeing to keep a data plan on the upgrade line for 2 years when the phone is purchased. So if you move the phone to another line, the line that was used for the upgrade will still be required to maintain a data plan.

If you terminate that line, what happens is the question. So if you still have to shell out $720, it's not really worth it, at least in my eyes, to buy the phone from VZW.

OMG, obviously the OP is an expert, employee or something in regards to Verizon but I feel sorry for him somewhat. Some of you guys here have crazy complex questions.

I wish I had found this thread days ago. I preordered an iPhone 6 Plus from Verizon. This is the first Verizon phone service I've ever had. I didn't understand the plans but after a couple of days I got then preordered.

But thanks OP for helping people out here. :)
