So how would this situation work for me?

Hypothetically, my mom and I aren't upgrade eligible until next July. She has the 4 and I have the 4S. Could we switch to the Verizon edge and still get the 6 for free if we traded our phones in? and would there be a termination fee to switch to edge? We are currently paying around $150 a month for 4GB between two of us and unlimited talk and text. Would it be cheaper to switch the edge program for us?

It would cost more for you to switch. If you are eligible for Early Edge, you can switch, it just depends. If you want the phone now, that's the cheapest way, otherwise I would wait. I would also change your plan to the single 2GB $60 / month promo plan for each of you so it'll be $120 a month instead.

I have a few questions ;

1. I did not pre order yesterday so we are going to camp out next week, can I trade in my 4s in the store for a 64gb 6 plus and pay the balance? Will they credit the price or do I have to wait a few weeks like the online process?

2. My contract have expired in January this year (was waiting for the 6), I have the share everything plan and I just read somewhere that I could have gotten $10 off my bill monthly? So I have been overpaying the past nine months? Or is it not applicable to me?

Thanks!!! :)

I have 2 lines: line A has UDP and line B is a basic phone with an upgrade. I'm on the nationwide plan.

I want the new iPhone 6. How do I do that and keep my UDP on line A?

I tried to order thru apple.com using line A at full price. However at the ck out screen it says:

Contract: Two-year commitment
One-time upgrade fee: $30
Voice plan: Nationwide talk & text $99.99/mon
Data plan: Unlimited iPhone $29.99/mon

Why am I charged upgrade fee even though I'm paying full price? Also why do they say two-year contract since I'm paying full price?

Thanks.

I am wondering if I can go to the Apple Store at 19th and ask for a Verizon iPhone6 at FULL PRICE(if get in line)?

I heard that normally it will take 1 month to buy that at Apple Store, is that true?

Thanks~

With Early Edge you can't do the trade in to get $200 for an older iPhone right?

And you still have to trade in your current phone without getting anything for it aside from the ability to do Edge early basically? But at least you can switch to some old cheap feature/basic phone beforehand and trade that one in basically.

Hi C DM, thank you for doing this.

I bought a full price Verizon iPhone6+ using a line that is in the middle of a contract. Under my Verizon account, it also says "Device Needs to Be Activated (Activate When You Receive Device)." Now I still want to use the device I'm currently using and send the iPhone6+ to my brother overseas for him to use (using a local SIM there).

What steps do I go about to make this work?

a) Turn it on here while in the States, let it activate then send it out to him? (Then switch my number back to my original device?)?
b) Or take out the sim card first, don't turn it on, then send it out to him? If so, will the "Device Needs to Be Activated" still persist?

By the way, while pre-ordering it asked if I wanted to use the iPhone internationally, which I clicked YES to (thinking that I wanted my brother to be able to use it overseas), and it has Embedded SIM in the order. Does this affect anything?

TIA

Just wanted to point out that it's not I who is running this thread, I'm just participating here and there with some replies and questions too.

As to your question, from what I know, it's usually safer to activate the phone and then switch back to the old one and give the new one to whomever you want.

I have the same question about why it's mentioning a two year contract and the $30 upgrade fee even if it's full price. Anyone know?

This is probably the most frustrating thing I have had to deal with in my history of upgrading devices through VZW/Apple.

I have 3 lines on my VZW account, one of which is eligible for full upgrade pricing, yay! BUT when Trying to upgrade and complete my preorder with a reservation code that I received last night through apple.com I get this weird error message when trying to get through checkout:

There's something you should know...
We're unable to complete your iPhone order online.

Based on the information you provided, Verizon Wireless may require a deposit in order to purchase a new iPhone. You can pay this deposit and, subject to availability, purchase an iPhone at an Apple Store.

Now, I understand this to be a message when trying to order a phone with a NEW line where activation deposit is required based off the credit decision of the carrier, but this account has been active for 10 years and there has never been anything to block an upgrade like this. I have called VZW and they confirmed "yes this line is eligible for contract subsidy pricing, there would be no deposits required" and then apple says "I have never seen that or don't understand why that would be an error message, call Verizon".

The REAL kicker out of all of this is the fact that if I go through the checkout process as if i'm going to proceed with the other two lines that aren't eligible and just buy outright retail, theres NO hiccups or issues at all. My reservation code runs out tomorrow morning at 9AM and i'm guessing by the time I get an answer to this that window will have passed, but now i'm even worried about waiting in line at apple and trying to upgrade and running into issues. I just want to know what the heck this is and why it's there since neither company seems to have a clue! Ahh!!!

Same story as someone else but couldn't find the answer:

Line 1 (me) - Unlimited Smartphone Data (No Upgrade Eligible)

Line 2 (wife) - 2GB Smartphone Data (Upgrade Eligible)

I want to use iPhone 6 on Line 1 with Unlimited Data.

I pre-ordered iPhone 6 early this morning under Line 2 since it said upgrade eligible using new Verizon edge plan for the monthly payments option.

Please assist: When I receive the phone how can I transfer the iPhone 6 to my number so I still keep unlimited data and my wife still keeps her old phone on her line. Do I need to call up Verizon customer service to have the switch done or can it be done online? should I not turn on the new phone just yet?

You can call customer service and they will switch it. If you want to be 100% safe don't power on the phone until the VZW rep tells you to.

The line 2 that you placed the order from, will have a 2 year data plan obligation, after 14 days, even if you terminate the phone.

I am a little over a year into a 2 year contract with Verizon. I want to upgrade to the 6 (64 GB), but I don't want to pay full price. I believe early edge is an option, but I wasn't a huge fan of adding almost $30 a month to my bill. I was thinking of adding a line to our more everything plan, and paying the ETF on my current line (around $210). Other than losing my current phone number, is there any downside to that?

I ran the numbers comparing the price of changing my line over to Edge versus activating a new line:

Early Edge

Phone: $37.49 x 20 months = $749.80
Sales tax on $750 = $56.25
Edge Discount: $10 x 24 = $240.00

Total Cost: $749.80 +$56.25 - $240 = $566.05

New Line

Phone: $299
Sales tax on $299 = $22.43
Trade in Value at Best Buy for iPhone 5: $225
ETF: $210
Activation Fee: $36

Total Cost: $299 +22.43 + $210 - $225 +$36 = $342.43

Adding a new line + canceling my old seems to be almost half the cost. Am I missing something here?

You are missing the higher monthly fee you'd be paying for the contract line (as it wouldn't get the Edge discount) and you are missing an upgrade fee or activation fee that is charged on contract lines but not for Edge.

I just re-did my calculations adding in the $36 activation fee. Thanks for pointing that out. I already took the edge discount of $10 a month (Only have 4GB of data) into consideration in my calculations. It's still about a $225 diff overall unless I am missing something else

The more I've thought about my options the more confused I become.

Current situation: 2 iPhone 5s, each in the middle of a two year contract. Plus one 5 year old dumb phone. 6GB shared data plan. +1GB promo.

No-brainer: move the upgrade option to one of the 5s. Acquire a 6 though I don't know the best way.

Needs: a total of 4 iPhones, 2 of them added at Christmas. Plus grandma's dumb phone. (She uses 150-200 min/month)

Method, the part where I'm confused: I thought to put the new 6 on EDGE, add 2 new 5s's to EDGE in December, and convert the remaining 5s to EDGE (if that's even an option). However, it occurs to me that I paid $330ish for the 5s a year ago and this plan would waste part of that.

The December 5s's can be had for $79 so it's hard for me to wrap my brain around $650 over 2 years. This doesn't mean I won't do it.

So any suggestions? I'd buy the 6 at full retail if it's a good strategy but can't afford to do both 5s's unless it's an clear big winner.

Thanks!

I think you have to see what the line discount is for 6GB shared to see where the savings are at. I have a mifi on my account (internet access for my inlaws that live in the boonies). So I have 10GB or more so I get a $25 discount. $25 * 2 years is $600 savings. Verizon is giving me $250 for my iPhone 5 so it is a good deal overall even when paying $750 for a phone (750 vs 850).

Depending what you are buying, you'd have to figure out how much of a discount would provide savings. You also have 4 phones so your discount may be worth it. I only have 1 phone on my account so it isn't as great a discount but it works out for me.

So what would you be trading in to get the 6? anything?

I would trade in 1 5s since it's worth $300 right? The other isn't eligible for upgrade so I don't imagine it's worth breaking the contract and selling it. I'd pay a net $250ish for a second 6 but not $4-500.

May have to increase 6GB once I add 2 lines.

This will give you the trade in value

There is a line discount for less than 10GB but I think you have to call and ask to see the exact discount.

I have been answering various Verizon questions that are strewn across this forum, so I thought I would make a thread for someone to ask a question and I'll answer it, just to help out the community. Obviously I will not disclose my position, but I am capable of providing fact driven answers to most questions! Also, if you have any Sprint related questions, I can help out as well.

Let's get started!

I'm going to a Verizon store next Friday.. If they refuse to sell me a 6+ at non-subsidized pricing.. I can sign up for a new line and cancel it later that day.. Keep the phone, and just pay the ETF? Right? Any issue with this plan?

I had planned to upgrade my 4S to a 5S (I like small phones), but the trade-in promotion is just too good to pass up.

The promotion ends on 9/30 and from what I understand, the 6 isn't going to ship until mid-October. How do I ensure that everything is processed on time and in the correct order (is there a correct order? Buy phone then process trade-in, or visa versa), so I don't miss the cut off date.

Thank you for the clarification. But why would line 2 still have a 2 yr data obligation if I decide to return the iPhone 6. Wouldn't line 2 just go back to before and still have the upgrade again

I have a typical 2 year contract with verizon that isn't up on my iPhone 5 until late November. I know I want to get the iPhone 6 plus as my next device when it comes time to upgrade. My question is, there any way I could "preorder" the iPhone 6 plus now being that they are pushed back 4+ weeks until delivery? I don't have Verizon Edge, but just wondered if I can somehow order the device now at upgrade price through Apple and just not activate it until my upgrade date. Would that work or not?
