I have been answering various Verizon questions that are strewn across this forum, so I thought I would make a thread for someone to ask a question and I'll answer it, just to help out the community. Obviously I will not disclose my position, but I am capable of providing fact driven answers to most questions! Also, if you have any Sprint related questions, I can help out as well.

Let's get started!

My wife and I are going to be new customers switching to Verizon from AT&T. We found that the best option for us is the single line plan with 2 GB of data for $60, rather than a share everything plan. But since these are single lines, I have a couple questions:

It looks like if I put two phones in my cart on Verizon's site, that single line plan option disappears, so it looks like I have to buy two phones as completely separate transactions?

Also, if that is the case, will there be a problem with the preorder if I put both phones in my name? Will it not allow me to order two separate single line phones/plans?

Finally, are the bills going to be separate? That would be kind of a hassle. I'd hope they would at least have the same due date if they have to be separate.

Does Verizon have early upgrades? I'd like to get the iPhone 6 for the $200 discount, but from what I have heard they don't do this?

So my question is relating to the new Edge plan.

So if I have over 10GB/month allowance, I will get a $25/month discount?

How would I do that, when I go to pre-order the phone, do I select a new plan at that time? or do I need to call and have my plan changed? I see no way to change my plan on the website.

If you are on a More Everything plan with 10 GB or more shared data than when you purchase a phone on the Edge program the $25 monthly discount will simply be part of the billing for that line.

I'm a Verizon customer with an UDP. My family is all single-line (not on More Everything). We have 4 upgrades available, including my UDP line. If I were to upgrade using one of their lines (as long as it were a smartphone), would I be able to transfer the iP6+ over to my line?

In the end, if this is too much of a hassle, do you know anything about the Verizon Max plan that's available for UDP customers? I've heard scant information, and only in passing. A Google search pulls up outdated information. I'm not a super-heavy user (never tethered or anything), so I've been thinking about switching to Verizon Max. I want some input first though!

Tl;Dr: Recap the steps of upgrading using another line while still retaining an UDP, and tell me whether or not I should consider Verizon Max.

OH, and if I preorder tonight, will I be able to select the Verizon Max plan from the list of options if I decide to upgrade on my UDP line?

Why do they have to make it soo complicated???
there's not that many combinations.. i am on the same boat.. i want to get 5 iphone 6 with vzw edge.. please post step by step.. TIA

Step by step what? Go to Verizon and get an iPhone 6 on Edge, that's basically all there's to it.

Sorry. I meant how can I pre-order 5 iphone 6 on edge? It seems that the system won't let me do it.. They said only 1 at a time..

Oh, 5 of them? You might not be even able to necessarily order 5 at the same time because of supply limits and all that. Not to mention that there might be some limitations on how many Edge lines there can be on an account.

Thank you for doing this. Simple question. I've just moved and am finally getting off my parent's phone plan and onto my own. As a new customer, what is the best plan for one phone, not a lot of data usage? And is it possible to pre-order and set up a new account online doing this.

Is it true that the discounts you get toward your access fee on an edge plan are just a promotion??? I had sent an email to verizon about how I feel their pricing is unfair for individuals and small families (less than 4) who don't use 10 gb and I got a call back and was told it's just a promotion that is ending in December and therefor is not a representation of the subsidized cost of the phone you'd save by going contractless (which I had noted should have nothing to do with how much data you use). I'd live to ditch the contract but it's just not cost effective for 3 people currently in a 4gb plan :(

Really wish they had separate billing. That's the problem I ran into when trying to get more people to join my plan.

Oh she did say that the discount will stay as long as you're still on an edge plan. You just can't start an edge plan after December. So even if I wanted to still switch, my dad's contract isn't up for another year or more so he'd be screwed.

Also, keep in mind you get an extra 1GB shared on your plan if you upgrade by 9/30, so you'll have 11GB shared now until 2016.

Is this just for upgrading using Edge, or for those of us existing customers upgrading and signing new two-year contracts as well?

So what is the best path? Buy a phone full price, then wait until the 21st to switch over? (21st is my contract end date but the 9th was my upgrade date)

Or buy a phone on the edge plan? Which the only difference I see is I'd have to switch phone numbers

Well buying full price or going with Edge ends up costing the same overall, and gets the same discounts.

It's not a promotion, it's a discount that you get for being on Edge (or having a non-contract device--this part was presented as a promotion earlier this year, so I guess we'll have to see if it stays or not).

I'm on a 2yr Verizon plan that is eligible for an upgrade. I wan't to end up on ATT with a no contract plan. My thinking is to upgrade all (3) Iphone 5 32gb I have to the Iphone 6+ 64gb at a cost of 3 x $399 + 3 x $30 (upgrade fee). Near the end of the first billing cycle I port my numbers to ATT and cancel the Verizon contract paying ETFs totalling $1,050.

Total cost to me for the hw (not including 1mo of Verizon service) is $1,287+$1,050=$2,337. This is cheaper than buying 3 x $849 out of contract phones (if you could) from ATT. Total savings is $2,547-$2,337 = $210 plus I'm off contract from day 1 instead of waiting until November.

Any issues with this approach?

Do you continue to get the $25 discount on the Plan once you finish paying off the phone on Edge? So if if pay it all off am I still getting that discount.

Thank you

I am on a family share plan with 4 lines and 8 GB of data being shared. I got an iphone 5S on launch day last yr with my upgrade. With this new VZW offer to trade in a 5S for $300 if I sign a new contract, how would that work exactly? Will I be charged an ETF? Will I get the new phone at the subsidized price? If I decide to go this route would I be able to switch this one line to the Edge program and still be within the family share plan, and should I go about that if I plan on getting the 6S next yr as well?

And finally, is this a good idea at all haha.

Also, if that is the case, will there Finally, are the bills going to be separate? That would be kind of a hassle. I'd hope they would at least have the same due date if they have to be separate.

Not the OP and I can't answer your first few questions but I can confirm that the two separate $60 accounts can be merged into one account with one bill.

I had my own account with Verizon on the $60 plan. My wife went to Best Buy this weekend and bought a new phone and switched her account from AT&T to Verizon.

When she got home I asked her why she didn't just have me add her a line on my account and she said she never thought about it. I called Verizon and they merged them together in minutes. Very simple process if you have to start two separate accounts.

With that said, it's going to be hectic at 3am buying phones. If I were you, I would just start any multi-line plan so you can buy both phones at once and when you get the phones, call Verizon and move the account to the two $60 plans.

If i want to go full-price/contract free, is there any reason to even try Verizon's site at 3 tomorrow morning? If there's a chance, I'll set an alarm or stay up after the game (go Steelers! :D).

Do you continue to get the $25 discount on the Plan once you finish paying off the phone on Edge? So if if pay it all off am I still getting that discount.

Thank you
Well, with what's in place now, yes, but they are treating that part as a promotional feature it seems, so not sure if that means it will still be there down the road. With AT&T offering it by default I honestly can't see Verizon not doing it either, but somehow they weren't originally and only started it doing it as a limited time promotion (since about April now).

Hey everyone, I've got two lines on a Sprint family plan, both are out of contract (no ETF). I want to preorder the new iPhones on Verizon, and port my existing numbers/lines.

1. Does Apple.com preorder have any mechanism for ordering multiple phones on one VZW More Everything plan?

2. If yes, is it possible to port the numbers from another carrier at the same time?

3. If no, would you recommend changing to a single plan and porting the numbers upon arrival, or preordering directly through VZW?

just checked to see if I could buy an iphone at full price because I'm not eligible for an upgrade at discount pricing.

so, to test this, I tried to buy an iphone 5s at full price and it did show the correct full price at $549, but it still wanted me to choose a new data plan and 2 yr contract. why? I don't need a new contract if I'm pay full price.
