Good for apple but not for verizon. So, verizon did not gain a lot of new subscribers but sales were way better than droid x sales!

Despite hardware updates, and iOS 4 (minor improvements IMHO), the iPhone hasn't changed much since 2007. Don't believe me? Look up "original Apple iPhone" on YouTube... So more power to you I guess.

Not saying you shouldn't wait, its just that I highly doubt you will be any more satisfied.

If you're the type that HAS to wait, then you WON'T be satisfied in my opinion.

I had an iPhone 1 and 3G. The 4 month wait is worth it to have the newest for me. LTE alone will make it worth it. As well as better camera, processor, bigger screen which are all RUMORS but again, its worth it for me to wait and see.

Barely? Those look like fairly significant double digit % sales differences. If those were election numbers VZW would be in by a landslide. What did people thing that no one was going to but an ATT iPhone after VZW started selling it. That's just silly. (And for the record I have an ATT iPhone and no intention of getting an VZW iPhone any time soon. ATT is pretty decent where I live.)

Most Verizon users at my office are just waiting for their current subs to expire.

Watch what happens after October 2011, when Droid users' 2 year plan ends.

All of you are saying that 'people' know that the iPhone 5 is doing to be announced at WWDC.
However except for the people on this board, how much of the general public would you lump into that? Not much.
Also while it seems like lots of people complain about AT&T, I for one am perfectly happy with it and I am sure that many others are happy with it as well. People are much much more likely to say something about a company when they are displeased with it than when they are happy with the company.

Two things:

1. People waiting for the revised version of the iphone, and

2. Current customers are locked into AT&T or Verizon smart phones and cannot upgrade at the present moment.

I think this makes sense for some of the population. However, the average person does not follow Apple's release cycle or read Apple rumor sites. Most people have no idea that a new iPhone is coming.

The mainstream media has been talking about it a little bit, but I wonder if this is really affecting sales. Remember, both AT&T and Verizon have millions of customers. It takes a lot to affect the numbers when dealing in the millions.

This was on 9-to-5 Mac today....it's a pain to manage voice calls on verizon.

Contracts, interest, etc.

Echoing what some others have noted - a lot of potential buyers are probably waiting for an existing contract to run out before switching carriers, hardware, or both.

Also, many people just don't care that much about phones (myself included). I'll probably get a Verizon iPhone eventually, but I'm not in any huge rush.

It's because Verizon are idiots. They have similar prices which aren't that much of a difference to bring over people. They had an opportunity to get a lot of people from ATT if they had a better deal for their plans but they DONT.

Unless you haven't upgraded in the past 20 months, you had to pay $649/$749. And its the same phone from 8 months ago. Gee, I wonder why people didn't go bananas?

Most sane people would probably wait until the iPhone 5 to pay AT&T their ETF. Why would a majority of people pay money to switch carriers just to get the same phone again?

speak for yourself

I think a lot of people will switch over when iphone5 comes out, they can "deal" with AT&T service for a few more months then make the switch when their contract it up.

ATT has the faster network, also can use voice and data at same time, by 2012 LTE. I know people who have moved over too ATT from Verizon to get the iPhone while their contract was up with Verizon. They could just have upgraded to Verizons iPhone, but they were so fed up with Verizon's terrible customer service and, yes, spotty coverage (and Slow data speeds) in southern california.

Everyone seems to be so confident that there's going to be a new Verizon iPhone in June, roughly 4 months after launch ViPhone 4.

Man I'd hate to be one of the early, uninformed adopters.

Either releases will be staggered (ATT in summer as usual, VZW in winter), or it will be a unified device usable on either network. The latter is more logical, and probably inevitable -- but is it really going to happen just four months after VZW's first iPhone launch? It boggles my simple mind that Apple/VZW would have spent the resources to launch a CDMA iPhone 4 if in fact there is going to be a new VZW-compatible iPhone only 4 months later.

Below are unit sales totals from five Apple stores combined (including two very, very prominent Apple stores) showing both Verizon and AT&T iPhone 4 sales during the Verizon iPhone's first five days of availability:

- Thursday: Verizon = 909, AT&T = 539
- Friday: Verizon = 916, AT&T = 680
- Saturday: Verizon = 660, AT&T = 471
- Sunday: Verizon = 796, AT&T = 701
- Monday: Verizon = 711, AT&T = 618

Meh... the way I see it is that Apple more than DOUBLED iPhone sales since the Verizon launch. And that's a great thing.

For me, I think the the next iPhone iteration will simply be minor hardware improvements, like better vibrate (lower frequency=more noticeable?), antenna redesign (current verizon phone), more battery, faster internals, and perhaps stereo speakers (come on already!). An LTE compatible "world" phone, which will work on ANY network, won't be until July 2012. This will be the iPhone 5.

I also agree that MobileMe is the big thing this year. We're likely to see a major overhaul.

I'll bet it's two things - AT&T locked a ton of people into contracts last year by giving them early renewals so it's big $$ to jump ship, and I know several folks who are either waiting for the iPhone5 and/or the LTE iPhone (which may or may not be the same thing) before buying/switching.

Keeping both

Daughter has iphone 4 on att ,wife just got her Verizon iphone. Loading the same sites on both phones show that one has advantages over the other and vice-versa, depending on where in the city you are. There is no clear winner here as both don't do what you want one to do. So for now we will keep both and the problem is solved.

1. People are defiantly waiting until June.. 2 they released the phone AFTER Christmas..

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of potential Verizon customers are waiting until June to see if the iPhone 5 merges both phones.

Yeah. Alleged Verizon customers clamoring for years for the iPhone and how AT&T will be destroyed when it happens, and it happens and now they are all waiting to see IF the iPhone 5 will merge both.

I am sure that is it.

First, as stated many times, a number of people are probably waiting for the next iPhone release.... especially if it has dual mode compatibility with a SIM card slot.

Second, I can't imagine they didn't see this coming. "We'll announce that in two weeks we'll have the iPhone." Well that's only good for people whose contract was up for renewal then, or who had the extra cash lying around to pay outright (not many people).

I mean, damn. I want the Verizon iPhone but I just upgraded to a Droid X in August. I'd rather have the iPhone than the X but the upgrade isn't worth paying that much outright.

Echoing what a lot of people are saying here. I personally have an aging 3G that is getting more and more painful to use (it is a crapshoot whether or not angry birds will actually launch or will crash due to lack of RAM). However, I am waiting to see what is released this summer. If they release iPhone 5 with LTE, it is a no-brainer to switch to VZW. But if iPhone 5 doesn't have any 4G tech, I will have to seriously consider whether VZW's better coverage outweighs the limitations of CDMA vs GSM, or if I can suffer with the 3G until an LTE iPhone is eventually released.

I think the general public is getting smarter! This launch proves that the iPhone is public knowledge like the term google. People knows apple launch a new iPhone every year because they see us with them each year!

This is still good, right, double the number of sales per day? I think these are mostly Verizon customers or those few AT&T customers that get really bad coverage where they are. Assuming you do get good coverage with AT&T, I think people are realizing that AT&T has better features (faster, voice&data at the same time, etc.).

i wonder why verizon was so eager to jump on the 4 so bad? i'm sure they were aware of a common yearly refresh coming 6 months down the road.

..unless maybe the 4 is all verizon is getting for now?

Apple's marketing swagger made the iPhone a sexy must-have product despite Verizon's best attempts to beat it down with Droid phones. Having iPhone on its network once the LTE conversion is complete should level the playing field. Also it helps Apple. It can use Verizon as a guinea pig before launching CDMA iPhone to the rest of the world.
