I am very happy with AT&T, actually.

Now that I thought about it though, it makes sense. Their "Everyone-who-expires-in-2010-gets-iPhone-4" scheme may have been their ploy to get as many people stuck with AT&T as possible, before the big exclusivity loss in 2011. I don't really care to switch though.

They've been good to me, and I have no complaints about (almost) anything - except that whole AIM-Uses-Data fiasco.

This is not news, call me when they start handing out free bumpers for the current iphone *hits snooze button*

Sprint's EVO can do it when using 4G.

Thats because Sprint's 4g is NOT CDMA, it is WiMax. I really don't care if the iPhone is released on Verizon or not as I will stay with AT&T, I have had no real issues with them.

We all know that it will be on Verizon eventually, and they will have network growing pains just like AT&T anyone that thinks they wont is just blind.

:(

All carriers suck. AT&T has issues. Verizon has issues. It really won't matter much. If you gain one advantage from some service, from one of the carriers, you'll loose another advantage.

Can't argue with that. Cell phone carriers are like the government. They're just out there to steal our money. It's all gimme, gimme, gimme.

This more than anything else indicates that there is no imminent deal. Apple's business partners clam up pretty tightly if there's a deal in the works.

Not really.

T-Mobile and Three recently made public announcements claiming they were negotiating with Apple to bring the iPhones to their networks in the UK. Both companies have now confirmed they will be selling the iPhone 4.

Virgin have made similar claims but have yet to confirm any deal.

I think think that would be great but unless they fix the problems with the phone, I don't care what carrier you use, the phone is worse less.

my iPhone 4 is flawless... better reception than I have ever had.

I do think it will be funny to start hearing the Verizon bashing. If you still can't connect to internet while on a call that will be HUGE... crippling I would think. Also, international travelers wouldn't even consider it.

this has been inevitable. at&t has been milking the iphone cash cow for far too long without improving their network one bit. they deserve to fail and fail miserably and/or lose a good deal of their customer base.

i'll wait for june 2011 when iphone 4 refresh comes along and then switch regardless of the early cancellation fee. i despise at&t - i'm willing to pay to leave.

it'd be funny if verizon offered to pay cancellation fees for everyone who switches over.

I guess an "analyst" somewhere is looking to manipulate some stock.

This rumor doesn't fit the product cycle, and would be totally out of sync. Verizon would only have 5 or so months before the next iPhone would be announced, after millions of people have already locked themselves into AT&T contracts. Verizon thinks of themselves too highly to play second fiddle.

And, we STILL haven't figured out how Apple intends to fire up production of a CDMA iPhone. Two product pipelines? Sacrificing the battery to get the extra electronics in?

Maybe in June 2011 with the next iPhone. Maybe. And it would be highly predicated on the state of LTE.

Finally, somebody that actually puts thought to their post! Well done.

Not really good news for the 1.7 million iPhone 4 buyers - they're locked in for a full two years.

You don't suppose AT&T knew this was coming and tried to get everyone locked up in a long term contract.

The 1.7 million iPhone 4 buyers are over the five launch countries ... a touch of arrogance there.

So what you meant is that the percentage of American buyers within that 1.7 million are locked in for a full two years.

Smart move by Apple if you ask me. They basically get to market to the people that are the market for an android phone. I predict android sales will suffer until they come out with something that can really compete with the iPhone.

Guys, if you want cheap phones then expect to be locked into contracts. You are lucky. We Canadians had to lock into 3 year contracts when the 3G came out on Fido/Rogers.

I'm going to pick up an unlocked iPhone 4 from an Apple store directly here in Canada.

If you don't want to be locked into a contract and want to be able to use different sims when you travel to other countries, then you could always buy an unlocked iPhone 4 from Canada in person at an Apple store or have some Canadian friend buy it online directly from Apple Canada and ship it to you but you will have to pay full price. What you will gain is the ability to use other carriers in other countries using local sims and using it on Edge on T-Mobile in the US.

@WeegieMac: Yeah, it is annoying that Americans think that the world ends at their borders and that the iPhone is only on AT&T. You have to just humour the poor sods.

I'm glad!

I don't want Verizon, nor do I like Verizon.

I like AT&T about as well as anyone can like a cellular provider.

What I am looking forward to:

1) Less people hogging up the network
2) People who want Verizon finally getting what they want, instead of griping about AT&T

Granted, AT&T doesn't have coverage in some of the areas where Verizon does have coverage, so I'm pleased that other people will get to have the iPhone as a cellular option.

I do think, however, that this will open up a whole new world of "gripe" threads about Verizon and the performance of the network and the iPhone on the network.

That should be good reading. *pops corn*

doubtful for janurary... b/c they want the holiday sales (although many will buy regardless of the holidays) I guess it will be an IOU gift :p

LOL at all you. It's a marketing tactic to keep you from buying the iPhone on it's second official launch day. It's funny how these rumors seem to pop up right around these launch days, not to mention those thrown in by Android, Blackberry, etc.

When it happens, then we'll deal with it then, Until that time, GO iPhone 4 on AT&T!!

iPhone on all carriers = Android killer.

No, seriously.

No, they both have a place. The one who'll get squeezed are RIM, Palm and Windows Phone 7. Apple and Android offer clear alternatives to one another. The others, save their business implementations, don't have one thing that they clearly do best.

Me too for these reasons.

Sick of these rumors...

I am just as sick of these rumors as all of you are. I wish that they would come to rest. Believe me, I have had Verizon for several years now and I would love to join the iPhone club without having to give my money to AT&T.

However, what I don't understand is why people are so against the iPhone coming to the Verizon network?

If you already have an iPhone on AT&T, what is the big deal if Verizon gets the iPhone as well? Is it because you want the exclusivity on AT&T, with the non-consistent service?

Yes, I realize that with Verizon's CDMA there is no simultaneous Voice+Data like on AT&T, but I honestly don't care about that feature. I am not browsing the internet if I am on the phone talking with someone.

In my opinion, if Verizon started to offer the iPhone, it would free up a lot of the AT&T network for existing iPhone users. Also, Verizon customers both new and old will buy up the iPhone.

Thoughts?

Sounds good to me. I'll be sticking with AT&T so hopefully the network will do even better due to those who jump ship to Verizon.

What's with all the complaining about this news being speculation and saying it's just an unconfirmed rumor? This website is called MacRumors not MacFacts.

Not Another Verizon Rumor!!!

I swear there seems to be a Verizon rumor every week, all you have to do is Google: Verizon iPhone, and something new will come up!!! Its probably Verizon's PR people putting these nasty lil rumors out so they can hold onto as many people as they can. I would be really surprised if Apple is going to build a separate iPhone (CDMA) just for Verizon's network and debuting it in January, just for Verizon??? Seems pretty fishy to me, what makes more sense to me is, if and when Apple builds a new 4G LTE iPhone that is compatible with both At&t's and Verizon's upcoming LTE network. Then sure, Verizon will finally get the iPhone

This makes sense for all the reasons people have mentioned including:

the easy ability for Apple to swap out the GSM antenna with the CDMA.

If V gets the iPhone, they will have simultaneous voice/data, no question. Apple will want everything identical except for the carrier.

I will probably hold off for a few months to see if these "rumors" turn into facts.
