AT&T has been dropping my calls since 3 quarter of 2007 when the first gen iPhone was still somewhat exclusive and limited.

I wonder what was AT&T's excuse back then?

It's the phone.....always has been.

I have had Cingular/AT&T service since 2002 and I had one dropped call in the 8 years before I got my iPhone 3G back in April. Since then that number has gone up.

It's not a coincidence.

But honestly, all these "iPhone on Verizon rumors" are getting to the level of Elvis sightings.

What are you talking about? I just saw Elvis at a Walmart parking lot loading his Tundra with 60lb bags of Purina Dog Food. I must say, He doesn't move like he used to.

Has AT&T possibly caused you to drop calls? Sure, they're not perfect and have been upgrading their network ever since. Is AT&T always at fault for you dropping your calls? Definitely not, if the past week shows anything. Even prior to the iPhone 4, people had said the iPhone might be a source of these dropped calls.

OK. Verizon. Whatever.

When is it coming to metroPCS?

Yeah until it comes to metroPCS it will be Epic fail. What about cricket! What is going on at Apple. Why don't they care about making any money. When there is iPhone on every carrier in the world, I will start a new one and complain about it not having the iPhone!

Don't expect Verizon's network to be perfect either once the iPhone takes it to the limit. Still probably better than AT&T on average though. But high traffic areas still might feel the strain.

Actually, I thought Verizon was implementing a new protocol on their network that would allow for simultaneous voice and data. Can't remember what revision of the spec is off the top of my head. Anyone?

Its called VoRA

Now, this is coming from a person who has had to deal with both networks. I am a meteorologist that now lives in Casper,WY. I was living in GA for many years and had the 3G Iphone. I absolutely LOVED my iphone. We had EDGE for a LONG time, and right before I got this job out here we got 3G where I was living. 3g network was VERY fast!! Kicked VZ AS*.... My speeds would be nearing the 2mb down and nearly 1mb up. Pretty dang good for Macon, GA. My friends "3g" speeds with VZ, in GA, were barely a 1mb down if he was lucky! Now, since there is NO native AT&T service in Casper, WY, I sold my iphone before I left and hopped on my mom's VZ family plan. I bought the MOTO Droid, (I know...partially my stupidity) and let me tell you it is NOTHING compared to the iphone. The camera is really good, but the OS is sluggish at times as well as it freezes. My iphone was never sluggish and it never froze! (Even Jailbroken) Now, Alltel is about to be replaced by AT&T here in Casper and I can't wait!! I can't wait to have my iphone again. These people out here, who have never had the choice, to get an iphone are in for a real treat. So, to my last point about the "networks". The 3g network out here is fairly slow. I get around .35mb to sometimes .70mb down. Hell edge is nearly that damn fast. So, IMO....VZ Network would STRUGGLE VERY much with iphones on there network. Hell I am getting rid of verizon when AT&T starts out here. So, hope that makes a little sense.

yay

Now the iPhone can paralyze TWO major data networks. Afterall, the iPhone's browser has been leading network bandwidth usage since it debuted. And that is with the LARGEST network nationwide. Now, with Verizon's network added, it can just double the amount of bandwidth and take even more mindshare.

Life's good.

:D

While I would love nothing more than for Big Red to start carrying the iPhone ASAP, I don't think we have enough evidence yet, although I will say that Apple and Verizon's silence could be perceived as an indication of something.

Media outlets and new sources have been confirming a Verizon iPhone coming soon since it was announced in January of 2007. I believe we were supposed to hear of a Verizon iPhone announcement at every WWDC so far. And this years we were supposed to hear something again. And why is this pushed back then. I thought it was confirmed that it was coming out in November of this year?

Basically, sarcasm aside, I highly doubt Bloomberg knows anything. When Apple says it, then I'll believe it. Until then, this "news" is basically worthless rumor.

And plus, Verizon announced at it's nationwide store meetings on Sunday that it has no interest in the iPhone, they're successful enough with Android. So whatever.

Sure does seem like you've got a reason to hope this isn't true. You've just locked yourself up for another 2 years on AT&T. They didn't "generously" open up the upgrade window for tons of extra people for no reason. They know their exclusivity is going to end soon.

That's the thing about these "rumors". Yes, there have been plenty of them, but the fact is, eventually Verizon IS going to get the iPhone, and I think it's all but a certainty 2011 is the year. At some point it simply doesn't make financial sense for Apple to stay with one carrier, as they're allowing the competition to build a substantial base with all these other carriers.

The thing is that Verizon has not clammed up. There have been Verizon people jawing about the iPhone practically every month, including CEO Ivan Seidenberg as well as some utterly ridiculous sources (ad agencies working on Verizon iPhone campaigns, etc.).

This more than anything else indicates that there is no imminent deal. Apple's business partners clam up pretty tightly if there's a deal in the works.

I love VZW as much as the next guy. I'm currently with them and have a BB Storm, my contract is over in dec. I'm paying the $80 to get out of it so that I can go to ATT and get the iPhone 4. I'm sick of waiting on VZW to decide whether they want the iPhone or not that I'm not waiting until Jan. I also am probably in the minority on this but if I could buy a phone with no mins and save $40/mo I would, I make very very very few calls that ATTs terrible problem of dropping calls etc really isnt going to affect me. If people need me than they know to text me, I hate talking on the phone. Hopefully tomorrow when my ATT store gets another shipment I'll be able to say I own my first iPhone.

I still can't believe people stood in line for 6+ hours to get a phone they could have gotten two weeks later without having to wait in line at all. And to think I thought we were in a recession. Where do these people get their money from if they have jobs? The government?

I'm glad all of you ATT fans are happy with your service. I have to say, I wish I could be, I'd get an iPhone. But oh well its good ole verizon for me.

Arrggg

:(
Not really good news for the 1.7 million iPhone 4 buyers - they're locked in for a full two years.

You don't suppose AT&T knew this was coming and tried to get everyone locked up in a long term contract.

All carriers suck. AT&T has issues. Verizon has issues. It really won't matter much. If you gain one advantage from some service, from one of the carriers, you'll loose another advantage.

There's a Qualcomm SV-DO chip that's looking for a handset. It could be iPhone 4, an Android handset, whatever. Apparently the changes to the CDMA network are trivial to accommodate SV-DO for simultaneous voice and data.

I don't think the lack of a CDMA iPhone is for technological reasons. My guess is that Apple has built scores of CDMA iPhones for testing purposes, ever since the original model.

My guess is that the delay is mostly due to partnerships, not just in the United States with Verizon (or Sprint), but also internationally. The holdup might be the lack of international carrier partnerships.
Are you aware that the majority of the world is on GSM and HSPA/HSUPA and that that the CDMA carriers of your neighbours to the north abandoned CDMA in favour of HSPA/HSUPA?

If (and that is a big if) Apple was going to create a phone that worked on CDMA networks, it would be a dual radio phone that supported both SIM based GSM HSPA/HSUPA networks as well as CDMA2000 and CDMA with a SIM.

There are some Asian markets which are still mainly on CDMA but not CDMA2000. Rather, they are on a variant that actually uses SIM cards called CSIM. I just don't see Apple producing a phone just for all of the CDMA markets let alone Verizon in the US especially this close following the launch of the iPhone 4 in so many countries.

Verizon is way too small and the number of subscribers that would buy an iPhone on Verizon is even smaller.

No one is locked into anything. You have 30 days to return your iPhone... If you can live with your OLD iPhone, or a different phone until Verizon comes out, you'll be set. Otherwise, suck it up and enjoy 2 more years of HELL.
