Verizon Wireless Said to Start Offering IPhone in January

June 29 (Bloomberg) -- Verizon Wireless, the largest U.S.
mobile-phone company, will start selling Apple Inc.’s iPhone next year, ending AT&T Inc.’s exclusive hold on the smartphone in the U.S., two people familiar with the plans said.
The device will be available to customers in January, according to the people, who declined to be named because the information isn’t public. Brenda Raney, a spokeswoman for Verizon Wireless, did not immediately return a call seeking comment. Natalie Kerris, an Apple spokeswoman, and Peter Thonis, a Verizon Communications Inc. spokesman, declined to comment.

how? Does Verizon provide CDMA?Is IPHONE a GSM phone?

I cant wait for Verizon's network to **** out when people switch back to Verizon from AT&T in swarms.
Not only that, but I can't wait to hear all the butthurt from new Verizon iPhone owners when they find out what kind of business Verizon runs. Say what you want about AT&T, Verizon is worse. Greediest bastards on the planet.

Yeh, I hear these are going to be available then, too:

I guess an "analyst" somewhere is looking to manipulate some stock.

This rumor doesn't fit the product cycle, and would be totally out of sync. Verizon would only have 5 or so months before the next iPhone would be announced, after millions of people have already locked themselves into AT&T contracts. Verizon thinks of themselves too highly to play second fiddle.

And, we STILL haven't figured out how Apple intends to fire up production of a CDMA iPhone. Two product pipelines? Sacrificing the battery to get the extra electronics in?

Maybe in June 2011 with the next iPhone. Maybe. And it would be highly predicated on the state of LTE.

Why would people buy an iphone on verizon in january, just to have to see a new revision in June? That would mean 5 months from verizon’s release, a new phone would be announced.

There are hoards of people who don't follow Apple daily like people here do.

I hope to god this is true. Not because I want to switch. I love AT&T in my area and I love it at my other house too. The reason this will be awesome is that it will free up AT&T's network and finally people will see that verizon isn't much better as the increased data will no doubt bog down verizon. I love my iPhone 4 btw. The class action lawsuit from this guy.

I suppose I'm one of the rare ones happy with AT&T service (though I hate all carriers, to be clear), but I know quite a few folks who are waiting to buy an iPhone the moment it hits Verizon. Apple's exclusive with AT&T is only hurting Apple (and AAPL shareholders, like me).

I say spread the love around. Throw Sprint and T-Mobile into the mix too.

yawn k guys hope you like your crippled handsets with wifi disabled, no iTunes , App Store, or youtube (vCast and Verizon Media Store), no google
maps (VZ Navigator, monthly fee please) and a giant checkmark under the Apple logo on the back. be careful what you wish for.

Wait what? Lets not forget, Apple went to the carriers and dictated the terms, unfettered/customized customer support, revenue sharing, heavy network usage, limited distro, etc. Infact ATT doesn't apparently begin to make an actual profit on iPhone customers until the 17th month (according to this, but I think it may be suspect). Apple makes money and continues to make money from the carrier, so if Verizon didn't and won't agree to these terms and apple is forced to forgo such revenue streams, then AAPL shareholders, like you, should be worried.

Good maybe this will make the Data Plans more competitive...may see a $9.99savings..yippee:rolleyes:

I guess every little bit helps....right

My theory is that if Verizon ever carries the iPhone that AT&T will always have first dibs on the latest model and then verizon would carry it 6-9 months down the line.

This currently happens with certain blackberry models between verizon and sprint.

But of course one of the issues was the fact that Verizon likes to pre-install certain apps and have it's branding on the exterior of the handset and box. Apple isn't going to cave to that and if there is a Verizon iphone there will be no branding of any kind on it.
