Why would people buy an iphone on verizon in january, just to have to see a new revision in June? That would mean 5 months from verizon’s release, a new phone would be announced.

Are you kidding? Most MR readers would jump at the chance to buy another one 5 months later! Even at full price.

Explains why AT&T had early upgrades.

And They had early upgrades from a 3G to a 3GS and from a first gen to a 3G .....

why the hell does no one get this? AT&T has been doing early upgrades EVERY YEAR!!!!!!

I know I've bought all 4 iPhones!

Verizon will get the iPhone half past never! Steve is still pissed at em for turning him down .. and Steve holds grudges.

let's be realistic .

T-mobile will get it before Verizon since T-Mobile is GSM. AND they have it in other countries.

DUH.

I'm unsure of what I would do.

I was thinking about buying some iPhone 4s for my Fiance and I... But I didn't know if I wanted to buy them straight up (no contract extension) or get the contract upgrade...

Lately AT&T has been crappy around here with many dropped calls in the past 3 months. So Verizon sounds tempting... Not for data speeds, but just because it has a better reputation (based on friend's word of mouth).

But CDMA not allowing multitasking is one thing to think about... And having unlimited data on my contract currently is another thing to think about...

Lte

If Verizon does have LTE up in January and iPhone4 is spec'd with Antenna's to use it...then AT&T is in big trouble. I'll be waiting so I have options. Those of you who just locked in for 2 more years with AT&T are still in good hands, I guess.

Nope, not going to be a Verizon iPhone in January 2011. Haven't we been through this about 100 times? The rumors have always turned out to be incorrect.

Plus, why would it come in January? It would make more since to launch at the time of the iPhone 5.

Not really good news for the 1.7 million iPhone 4 buyers - they're locked in for a full two years.

You don't suppose AT&T knew this was coming and tried to get everyone locked up in a long term contract.

The fact that AT&T tried to lock-up folks who were due for an upgrade this year seems to point to an earlier Verizon launch (like late fall).

AT&T has a bunch of folks who are due for an upgrade in January and February and if iPhone launched on Verizon in Jan, then those folks would be prime candidates for a switch. You would think AT&T would try to lock that crowd up.

But I guess we should not try to over-think it since the Verizon iPhone rumor has been hanging on longer than the cockroach.

Maybe the new Verizon model will come out every January? Think of all the money that would be made between Apple, AT&T, and Verizon off all the crazy people who would switch between Verizon and AT&T every six months to get the newest model.

it's a shame ATT had nearly four years to get their network up to speed with Verizon's or at the very least, fix their image that their network was just as strong. I don't think they've done either.

AT&T is the only network that has to deal with the millions of iPhones that are out there now.

Splitting it up over two networks might make it better for everyone, but don't think that Verizon's network is not going to take a hit when and if it also starts to get millions of new iPhones on it.

Not only that, but I can't wait to hear all the butthurt from new Verizon iPhone owners when they find out what kind of business Verizon runs. Say what you want about AT&T, Verizon is worse. Greediest bastards on the planet.

It's really going to be hillarious. All these people complaining that there is no iPhone for Verizon, and refusing to switch to AT&T because the service sucks. In reality in Mass, Maine, and NY where I use the phone most, I have better service than Verizon.

Seriously though, people without iPhones on Verizon when the "Verizon iPhone" comes out are going to cry because their network is going to blow.

Thank goodness, it can only improve the AT&T coverage as people move over to what they think will be an improvement.

I've been having lousy service from att in NYC ever since the first gen iPhone..before you spotted an iphone in every corner. Before 3G service.

Good news to see. I hate AT&T and refuse to switch to that carrier just for the iphone. Verizon FTW.

I'm with you guys. I've been waiting for this for a LONG time. Give the people what they want, so they'll get off AT&T's network.

I still can't understand why people would want to get off AT&Ts network and move to a network that won't allow speaking on the phone and surfing the web at the same time. Verizon's sudo-3G coverage may cover an additional 3% of the population, but it mans that 100% of them would be using a second-best network.

Yeh, I hear these are going to be available then, too:

Somebody is in fact working on flying cars... just think with FaceTime we can all be the Jetsons.

I hope to god this is true. Not because I want to switch. I love AT&T in my area and I love it at my other house too. The reason this will be awesome is that it will free up AT&T's network and finally people will see that verizon isn't much better as the increased data will no doubt bog down verizon. I love my iPhone 4 btw. The class action lawsuit from this guy.

Verizon already has quiet a bit more data flowing through its network than AT&T does. Since Verizon is already pushing out more data than AT&T, it should be able to handle whatever the iPhone brings.

It's a misconception AT&T is dealing with more data than anyone else due to the iPhone. Verizon has lots of aircards and Mifi devices all of which use a lot more data than the iPhone does.

..weird, VZ stock has doubled in the last 30min.. oh, right, that's the news bloom would jizz to be in the forefront of.

this is good news, eventually the iphone traffic will be split between different networks which means better service for all

Bloomberg reporting:
By Amy Thomson
June 29 (Bloomberg) -- Verizon Wireless, the largest U.S.
mobile-phone company, will start selling Apple Inc.’s iPhone next year, ending AT&T Inc.’s exclusive hold on the smartphone in the U.S., two people familiar with the plans said.
The device will be available to customers in January, according to the people, who declined to be named because the information isn’t public.

Given Apple's fixation on secrecy it seems Verizon is verifying through action Apple made the right decision all along to go with a company capable of keeping secrets until launch day: AT&T.

Hmmmm. 1-11. CDMA or LTE? That is the question.
