Call me dumb, but doesnt Apple and Att have a 5 year agreement???
That means the contract expires in 2012..

Id love to see a Verizon CDMA Iphone, it should be really cool... horrible battery life, no data while using a voice call etc..

The major upside would be all the ATT defectors would help ease the burden on the network.

That is correct. However I am sure Apple can buy themselves out of it or they restructed it at some time.

Where does it actually say it's a Verizon iPhone? They say it's a Verizon compatible iPhone, which is not quite the same thing, even if it is true. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Sprint also use CDMA?

I don't think it was a 5 year agreement, I think it was something like 3 years and then I believe they extended that once. Supposedly the exclusivity agreement ends sometime this year (2011), although no one except Apple and AT&T know exactly when.

A while back it was rumored that AT&T changed that agreement to get out of the revenue sharing deal. It would make sense that it was shortened.

No, it was 5 years...that fact was revealed in a court case earlier this year.

That is correct...however...

Heard that WSJ will be clarifying that Verizon will indeed launch the iPhone, not just that it will be CDMA-compatible

... VZW gets the iPhone so that all the ATT haters, as well as people like yourself, who have legitimate issues with their network in your area, can switch to VZW. That way, you can enjoy a kick ass device on a network that doesn't suck for you. :D

The network may not suck, but Verizon will undoubtedly put undeletable crapware on the phone, block apps they don't like and not let you use iTunes or Bonjour to transfer files. Verizon is the most consumer-hostile carrier by far. Open your eyes, Verizon users, and get off.

The reason why there is not yet a Verizon iPhone and will still not be one any time soon has little to do with AT&T and Apple's contract at this point and mostly to do with Verizon being Verizon.

Why would they do that when then don't do it to Droid phones?

Open YOUR eyes.

Quoting the same story four times doesn't - to me - make it appear they predicted this four times. They only predicted it once, in March. You've quoted four OTHER articles about the WSJ articles. You've made your point.

And if you read the first article they predicted that production wouldn't begin until September. So at worst they're simply revising their prediction by a few months.

On another note CNBC has been reporting on this all day. This is much different than an internet article that admits that its a rumor.

My thoughts exactly. Seems everyone is taking this one a bit more seriously. It's gotten more coverage than any of the previous rumors I recall.

verizon will not put crapware on the iphone, you know apple better

New rumor...

Microsoft is buying the WSJ to provide really good spin and rumors about the Win 7 phone.

And another rumor is that the Win 7 phone will suck...but thats just a rumor.
:D

There will most likely be a Verizon iPhone at some point in the future...

But these predictions just keep coming and going. Enough already.
I mean, at some point the predictions will (probably) be true, but only in the sense where if you predicit each day that it will rain tomorrow, eventually you'll be right.

If WSJ had good sources and journalists they wouldn't have blown this prediction repeatedly in the past.

Yeah if you read the old articles they would say that its a rumor or that Verizon may be working with Apple.

But now if you go to CNBC.com this news in on the first page and the first sentence in the article is:

"Apple will partner with Verizon to debut a new iPhone early next year, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal Wednesday."

There is a difference in reporting that something may happen and something will happen.

Hence you now have people actually trading stock on this news.

...I've always thought these stories sounded odd in nature. Always has me wondering about the source.

Maybe Verizon, hoping to convince their customers to stick with them a little longer for day when they actually do get the iPhone. And if they can generate additional consumer interest, that should put pressure on Apple to make a deal with Verizon. (Just makin' stuff up here. :D)

Some agency should monitor the buying and selling of stock by these authors and their associates. Do certain stocks go up or down after little rumors lie this get announced? Lots of investors read the WSJ. Will ATT drop when one of these stories comes out making it a better buy for the day after? Will Verizon go up making it a good day to sell?

For the WSJ to repeatedly report such rumors without proven sources is irresponsible.

Makes no difference to me. A lost call here and there wont get me to jump. The more people who leave att the more bandwidth for us who stay and the better the call quality. Also, att will have to be more competitive depending upon what verizon offers. Competition usually allows the consumer more benefits. The cdma limitations do not entice me. I used to have verizon. Trust me the grass is not greener.

Guys think about this, The white iPhones got delayed til’ 2011 and now this!? It's obvious Apple is preparing one of the biggest iPhone launchces ever, for any kind of phone. This will follow through, d@mn near I hope so. [Yeah kind of a fanboy, but whatevs]

If true, I can't wait to see how Verizon gimps the iPhone. Will it be with special Verizon branded apps? Removed features? Pay extra for every little feature you want to enable? More expensive apps because VzW wants a piece of the action?

Yeah...this should be interesting to see (assuming it really happens this time).

Well why not?
It's not like the phone will work on many/any non-Verizon networks so I can see it having their logo above the Apple one on the back as well.
