I love how people are saying that you shouldn't be expecting free things. But really, consumers should be expecting these things. I live in Canada, and have a 6GB Data Plan for $30. It includes free tethering, and unofficially also includes free hotspot (On iOS 4.3 builds, it is enabled). They have offered hotspot on several Android phones already, and tethering has been included in all plans >1GB for no additional fee.

So yes, customers should be expecting free things when users around the world are getting these services included at no additional costs.

I don't think we're getting the full story here. How can they give you unlimited data on the phone and limit tethering? I bet that if you want to be able to tether you have to sign up for a limited plan, just like AT&T. Granted, you may gt 4 gb vs 2 gb but it's still gonna be limited which is bullshiit.

You lose your bet. These plans are identical to the ones Verizon already offers for it's Android phones. I have an Incredible. Let me stress this in as plain a use of language as I can:

I pay $29.99 for unlimited data on the device itself. I routinely exceed five gigs of data. There is no cap. None. Period. I choose to pay an additional $20/month for the ability to use my phone as a mobile hotspot. That gives me 2 gigabytes of data to use as a hotspot (though if I browse the web on my phone while the hotspot is running the data used on the phone counts against the limit, but ONLY while the app is running) and I pay $10/gig in overage.

That's it. You're really trying very hard to take issue here. These are the same rates Verizon already has, and I think they're significantly fairer than paying TWICE to use the same two gigs.

Hang up the phone and call them back. If thats your biggest problem, then good for you because im sure many others have bigger problems.

I'm sorry, we are talking about the difference in functionality between AT&T & Verizon iphones right?

Feel free to list even 1 tangible thing the Verizon iPhone does the AT&T one doesn't....

Criminal. $30 a mon for unlimited data. Unless of course you actually want to use it, in which case we need another twenty from ya, so we can charge you $50 a - month for the same 1.4 mb of data.

This should be illegal.

Oh yeah, this doesn't include your voice or txt plans.

And AT&T is $45 for 2gb for everything, stop spouting your crap.

So, if I am in the middle of a 250MB download (say for a game App), and a call comes in, I have to begin from scratch and use up another 250MB on my data plan? Crap.

I know the Palm Pre had a setting where you can choose to route calls to voice mail or have them interrupt your surfing/download.

How can apple even let Verizon sell the iphone with this type of network. I've had an Iphone since September of 2007, i had the 1st gen & now the iphone4. Let me tell you you will use voice & data concurently all the time. You know how many times during a call someone has asked me "did you get my email" or "what time is ______ open till" or "what movies are playing tonight"...........

Seriously i live in Central NJ, i've had AT&T since it was cellular one in 98'. Go with the AT&T iPhone, theres nothing smart about a smartphone that can't do voice & data. For me that's the end of the discussion right there. Both plans are gonna cost you around a $100 month, both networks will give you pretty good call quality. If i have 2 dropped calls a month thats alot & usually its in places where cell signal is limited across carriers. I can't think of 1 tangible benefit that Verizon has over AT&T other than this alleged superior network that in my experience is a total myth.

By a CDMA iphone with verizon so that what your either stuck with CDMA or you dish probably $400 next year to upgrade to the LTE version? Because you won't be eligible for upgrade pricing till what Feb of 2013???

I'm an apple fanboy, for me its about the phone not the carrier, but if you go with verizon your making a mistake. MA Bell isn't exactly cutting edge.......

wow...way to put down millions of subscribers that use Verizon everyday. For me, it's about the carrier and NOT the phone. Different strokes for different folks

Yeah and its there now so your argument means nothing, when you can prove that Verizon is dropping the unlimited plan then fine have at it...

Dude are you serious, Verizon has gotten rid of there unlimited data for all phones except the iphone, they have been talking about tiered data pricing for more than a year.

This is just a customer grab, so when you upgrade to the LTE version.....
ow sorry no more unlimited data..

:: YOU GET UNLIMITED DATA FOR THE PHONE ::

If you want to use the phone as a hotspot, the data used by up to five other devices is capped.

On my current Verizon Palm Pre, I pay $30 a month for up to 5gb of hotspot data transfer. Never tried to see how many could connect to it at a time, but i've had 4 devices on it before at one time.

So browsing, downloading apps, ringtones, etc on the phone is unlimited.. but data transfer used by tethered devices is capped.

On february 3rd, will i have to pre-order online at verizonwireless.com or at a Verizon store. Then on february 10th do I go to a Verizon store to pick on up? or will it ship to my house on the 10th?

what were you expecting?

Verizon is ridiculously expensive. I knew their price plan would either be the same, or more than ATT.

SIMPLE SOLUTION: Jailbreak it and install a tethering/hotspot app. Simple.

The bet will be settled when the official verizon plans are published. Until then it's all speculation. And I would expect AT&T to counter with a tethering plan that competes with whatever verizon offers.

JPhillips, they have NOT gotten rid of the unlimited plan for all other phones. Every phone Verizon sells can get the $29.99 unlimited data plan RIGHT NOW. You really don't appear to read things thoroughly, do you? Guess that gets in the way of getting mad.

Funny, the website says $30 for unlimited data on Feature Phones(90% of the phones) and 3G Smartphones. Yeah they really got rid of the plan for everything but the iPhone...

Makes calls.

Where do you live in a cave? Like i said before i've had an iphone since Sept of 07' I've been with AT&T since its inception. There network is just as good as MA Bells 60 yr old copper lines.

While MA Bell was running "can you hear me now" commercials AT&T was launching the most data intensive phone the worlds ever seen. Moving more data then VZ/TMob/Sprint combined.

50 million people are a part of a network this guy says you can't even make calls on......

If you want to speak useless crap so can I.

this is always been the price for Verizon

I am a Verizon customer waiting to get the iPhone data is unlimited for $30.00 if you want a hotspot its a additional $20.00 for 2 gb what it does is it turns your iPhone into a wifi like how Verizon has there mifi and connect to 5 devices so you can connect your laptop, iPod touch or ipad.

From BGR:
"Verizon Wireless brass continue to drop hints that the advent of the carrier’s 4G LTE network will foster a change to the structure of its data plans. Speaking with Bloomberg, Verizon Wireless CFO, John Killian stated that, “We [Verizon Wireless] will probably need to change the design of our pricing where it will not be totally unlimited, flat rate”. Killian’s comment suggests that Big Red will adopt AT&T-like pricing, with tiered plans, for the customer’s convenience; the unlimited data plan will be removed from the pricing model. Anyone’s enthusiasm for LTE a bit dampened by this comment, or did you already assume that tiered pricing was inevitable?"

I'm just looking out for Apple iPhone fans, want them to have the full experience. Some of you sound like there a little jaded they waited 4 years for inferiority....

So you're just full of crap, JPhillips? You made an incorrect claim. You were called on it. You didn't exactly acknowledge the fact that you were wrong, and instead decided to make a crass attack on a product and service you don't personally care for.

Well done. The internet is far richer for your contributions.

I'm speaking useless crap, your spouting of about the 2nd largest network in the states like its boost mobile....

Again i'm waiting on 1 tangible thing the verizon iphone can do AT&T's cant.

Not your koolaid opinion about AT&T's network

Boy did this thread get very angry very quickly. You all need to calm your jets a little. Have a look around, everything is expensive these days, even *whisper it* Apple products.

Verizon's 4G network isnt even going to be Nationwide until 2013 as stated by VERIZON. Why would they kill the unlimited data plan for a phone that doesn't support 4G/LTE and when the 4G/LTE network wont cover the current 3G network until 2013. Learn something, get it from the horse's mouth not the pig bloggers.

FORGOT THE PICTURE, here you are Mr.Jphillips
