Wouldn't it also be the right thing for Verizon to give you a reward for the inconvenience?

What is it with you and rewards? You have mentioned it over and over again. Do you only ever do the right thing if there is a reward involved?

The title of this thread is incorrect.

Agreed. Verizon is threatening to blacklist a phone that was sent to me in error and I want to keep it.

I've lost something of mine before and never got it back and it was pretty important.

Well that's too bad. Unfortunately more and more people have lost their morals. I found a phone before at an amusement park. I contacted the last number dialed and then walked it to the lost and found.

It would be nice if they gave him a credit for a 'thanks for returning back an $800+ phone'

I agree, it would be nice. However, the person I quoted seems to make a reward a requirement for doing the right thing.

Seems like the OP knows what is right, he/she also knows what they want to do and they came here hoping to get support for what is (in my and other posters' opinion) the wrong thing to do in this case.

Or he can just return it cause it's the right thing to do. It's not that big a deal.

it is. but we don't know what the OP does during the day, maybe he doesnt have time to go by and drop it off somewhere. or he does but they're closed when he can. thats why i said its easier if they send a box and a label. and he can arrange a pick up.

if it was me i never would of posted it online about it to begin with. just asking for more trouble that way.

also if it was me and 2 showed up when i ordered one. i would of waited to see if verizon noticed and contacted me about returning it. then i would of returned it. but if they never contact me asking about it i would of not said anything.

Here is why I would return it, this is just my experience, but maybe others have had similar things happen.

I witnessed a hit and run on parked car in the parking garage where I lived. I put the offender's information on the car that was hit. The owner of the car that was hit called and thanked me and offered a reward since the police were able to find the offender. I declined the reward since I would hope some one would do the same for me.

Almost a year later my wife lost a very sentimentally valuable necklace at the pool. I put up signs and we got a call the next day that some one had found it. Turns out, the person that found it was the owner of the damaged car. She was really excited to be able to "repay" me. I offered her a reward, she also declined.

Do good and others will do good for/to/with you. :)

So, you're suggesting Verizon should give the customer a cookie for doing the right thing to return something due to a mistake?

Us Americans and our first world problems and perceived privileges...the customer should do the right thing and return the device.

also, thread should be changed from "Verizon is threatening to blacklist MY phone", to "Verizon is threatening to blacklist the phone sent to me that i didn't pay for and am deciding to keep even though I can still use the one i paid for"

You're probably the type of customer that thinks they deserve a free phone because they've been with their carrier for X amount of years too, right?

Just know Verizon isn't losing sleep over you returning the phone or not you are the one that has to live it down. Yeah they are going to blacklist the phone and no you're not going to be able to exchange it out at an Apple store because when they run the IMEI they will see it as blacklisted. Yes someone messed up and sent you two phones, but believe it or not people in retail/customer service are human too. So no, you don't deserve anything for doing something decent in your life.

Why is this even a question? Ask Verizon to send you a prepaid box, much like they do for returns, and ask them to arrange a UPS pickup at your location. All you have to do is put it in the box and leave it on your porch. Problem solved, exactly zero hassle, and as an added bonus you get to look in the mirror every morning and like who you see. Or maybe your moral compass is so broken that it doesn't matter, in which case ... I'm sorry.

I'm not sure how many of you guys have had to deal with Verizon Customer Service. They honestly are the worst. I when through a similar issue, and when they did send the shipping label, they would not pay the extra for a UPS at home pickup (I think it was $5 more). They also would not allow me to drop it off at a store (which again was a PITA).

This was Verizon sending me the wrong cable box, that I had to pay $100+ for (Second DVR box with the larger 1 TB drive, then send the smaller 500 GB box, even though they made me pay for the bigger box).

If it was me, I would simply say this, "Send a shipping label and box for an at home pickup, and I will box it and leave it outside for pickup. If you do not, please blacklist it, as it's going in the garbage".

Verizon CS is the absolute worst, I have had nothing but problems with them over the years, they just have the best product (fios), so I stick with them.

Because it is also the right thing for Verizon to pay for the time the customer has to waste due to their mistake.

I'm willing to bet they will not pay extra for an at home pickup... There is NO way I would drive to drop it off after my experiences with Verizon. I also live in Long Island NY, so every 5 minute drive turns into 2 hours...

Exactly... His time is worth money too. If they wont even give him a $25 credit to his bill, and on top of it wants him to prepay for the shipping... Forget them...

This.

If I was verizon I would cancel your service and blacklist both phones. Hopefully you have unlimited data and lose that too.

I agree.

And where does it say you don't have to return it? You don't get to keep the extra phone.

Have some of you never done something just because it is the right or a nice thing to do?

Yes it would be nice if they compensated the OP, but some of you sound like it's all about keeping score.

when I was a tech at the genius bar I never recall seeing on our iPads we use if a phone was blacklisted by the carrier because all we would run is the serial number on the phone.

As a fellow Baylor Grad, yes I have done many things that are just the right thing to do. The OP stated that they weren't even willing to send a prepaid shipping label for him. At that point, I would have completed my time with them. Verizon is horrible... If they aren't even willing to meet you halfway, why should you go out of your way and pay by time, shipping, and handling just in the hopes you will get a refund for shipping.

I agree don't try to make money off of the device, but either give it away for free, or throw it out. But if they wont prepay for shipping with home pickup, they obviously do not want the phone back.

I get that. In that case I would just go set it on the counter at a Verizon store and walk out, they'll figure it out :)
