I think it's moreso that Apple just likes to march to its own beat and doesn't care two hoots about what the rest of the competition is doing (or at least, Apple gives the impression that they don't care), which is what makes them so polarising. It's infuriating. You either love Apple or hate Apple but you can't ignore them.
Apple cares and responds when it impacts their bottom line. Phablets, iPad mini, Apple Pencil are just 3 off the top of my head. Each is a response to what the competition was doing. They let the competition stumble and fumble over implementation growing pains and if a concept appears to be gaining traction, then they enter into the fray.

Tim Cook is wandering around selling this as a laptop replacement, which it's simply not unless all you do on your laptop is read email, surf the web and watch YouTube videos.

I believe that people who use their computers just to read email, surf the web and watch YouTube are the majority. It's just that they don't hang around forums like Macrumors, so we don't get a true sense of how numerous they are. I know for my mom, aunt and cousin, an iPad is all the computer they need, and the Pro, with its larger display, would likely be a nice upgrade for them.

Moved my Pro to 9.2 PB3, and it's definitely the software it SHOULD have launched with.

Could you elaborate on what it is about 9.2 that makes the difference?

If I knew I would have said. It's noticeably even louder (somehow), faster and more fluid, and any of the hiccups I was noticing - especially with the keyboard or screen responsiveness are gone. In fact I haven't had any issues at all yet. Clearly bugs have been squashed, but no, there aren't any major feature additions or anything. It just feels as polished as it should be.

Gotcha, thanks for the clarification!

Rapid charging is bad for batteries anyway.

Why do you say rapid charging is bad for batteries, i thought rapid charging was great as you can charge your batterys fully with in under 30 minutes rather than you waiting for a least 2 hours and that is awesome!!!

I dont hate the pro, I actually love the design of the device itself. Finally a tablet from Apple with decent internals. The screen size seems amazing and a perfect thickness. Aside from the screen, I don't see a difference from my air 2 for my needs. It may be 'snappier', but if I don't find the air 2 'sluggish', then I have no complaints. The pencil and keyboard have not been something that appeals to my uses. But these are all the "why I don't need it".

My real issue is iOS as it is holds back the device. It still can't have 2 sessions of the same app open. And with a screen that big (again a preference) being able to have more than 2 things open at once would be good. So if the iPad Air can have 2 apps side by side, why couldn't the pro do 3 or 4? And there is always some people's preferences of having file systems accessible by the user. And I will admit that iOS has made some amazing progress, there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Personally, my issue is that it fell short of expectations. Since the stylus and keyboard isn't really an influential factor for me, all I see is a big iPad with better internals, but thats it. The good part is that my only problem with the device is the software itself, but that will change over time. High hopes for iOS10 though.

I posted earlier that Apple has a habit of introducing hardware well ahead of the software. I would not be surprised if the iOS rewrite was already started prior to the September event. Microsoft and Adobe were certainly onboard with Apple's plans. I wonder what Cisco brings to the party, it bodes well to have them involved. I don't think we will know Apple's plans for a while yet, maybe until next summer. Until then the IPP will be popular with creatives and the recreational crowd. I was seriously impressed with it.

Could be - we won't know until it happens - predicting Apple's timelines is a popular activity here but is very risky. ;)

You're probably right. There must be statistics on that somewhere? - or maybe not. In any case, I think it's safe to say that sales to the mainstream office productivity market has not historically been one of Apple's priorities.

I wonder how many will buy the iPP for the beautiful display and later decide it's just too big to be portable? Only Apple will really know, assuming they can sift that data out of the general return data.

More like love hate. It's the best and only iPad worth upgrading to but is still limited by software, with crappy keyboard, no kickstand and the value proposition isn't there compared to other devices on the market. If Apple priced it to replace the iPad Air 2 then the faults could be overlooked otherwise it's just a bigger more expensive consumption device.

Why don't these people just buy the (very nice) Microsoft Surface Pro instead of bitching on an Apple forum? I just don't get it.

For the same reason people go to Discussion forums and try to shut down people trying to participate in a discussion.

People who like Apple products are allowed to discuss Apple products that currently exist or don't exist yet. It actually leads to interesting discussions and ideas for people willing to "Think Different".

As someone who used to be a part of the Google Chromebook community, I can't tell you how hilariously ironic it is to see people repeating the same arguments that used to be made about Chrome OS all over again. Chrome books have become some of the best selling laptops precisely because of their simplicity and narrow focus, with an arguably smaller feature set and certainly less power than the iPP (except the Pixel).

This is a powerful device that can do an awful lot; maybe it can't replace everyone's laptop, but for me I am fairly certain it will easily be my go-to device for mobile computing.

There's a big difference though between speculating on potential new devices and crapping all over other people's experiences because the latest sign gadget didn't meet your needs (not you per se but those who are making arguments against the iPP in multiple threads). I understand that the Pro didn't meet everyone's expectations, but being a Debbie Downer about it gets old.

Well, it's obvious from the moment you look at it that it's not that portable. And so many people say that they never take their iPad Airs out of the home anyway. So if your iPad is just a at-home device, why not get the Pro?

The real question is, how comfortable it is to use on the lap, while sitting on the sofa or in bed. I've seen some posters say they found this uncomfortable, but those are mostly people who have decided to return it. I'd love to hear if anyone who is keeping it has found it comfortable to use on the lap, or are they mostly using it at a desk?

My initial impression at an Apple store with the smart keyboard is it ain't going to work on one's lap. While I couldn't try to do it there, I wouldn't recommend a purchase if that is what one plans to do. It isn't like it is sturdy like a Macbook, I may be wrong about it on one's lap with that keyboard but I doubt it.

No, I'm not asking about how it is on the lap with the keyboard. How is it on the lap with just the iPad itself?

Well I don't see a problem with folks doing that, BUT it isn't the best angle I personally would like a to view it at and I rather not have my head tilted for long. I have some neck issues others might not have though and I found it uncomfortable.

Sorry I don't agree.
Whilst I'm not saying iOS should necessarily be any different in functionality.
The iPad Pro, with a 13" screen is screaming out for better more useful/imaginative ways to "Present" the icons of the apps you have installed.

Honestly, I think you are delusional. Iphones have been around for how long? iPads? The "presentation" will stay pretty much the same. Has OSX's feel changed much since 10.0? Not really. Do you not understand the basics of Apple? It is about giving developers the hardware to design killer apps, and waiting on the developers to show the difference in the tablet vs the others.

I am amazed by the people who are saying that their main complaint is that "it's the same old IOS." It actually isn't. The differences are subtle but they are there. One example is the on screen keyboard, in certain apps it has an extra row of buttons with numbers and punctuation marks. This is not available on other iPads. Consider also that the pencil will work with the Pro but not with other versions of the iPad.

To me that extra row of buttons is as important as the pencil, and i believe it should have been mentioned at the announcement.

Those people are Apple buyers that venting there fastration And Apple should hear them, they say it in the right place

OS X on a touch screen device would just be stupid. You want a screen that you can prop up and use at a desk with a keyboard? Buy a MacBook. I really don't understand people sometimes.
I am sick and tired or hearing this excuse. It would take a few weeks and a handful of good developers to either make OS X "touch-able" or maybe a few extra months to create a hybrid OS with elements of both OS X and iOS...I would bet my house that this has, in fact, alread happened, it is just has not, for whatever reason, come to GA as of yet. possibly because Tim Cook, absolutely, positively, does not know how to "Think different."
