Comparing iPhone X with a Samsung S9 is really boring.

I can predict the future...soon Android will get rid of the home button

The search bar on the home screen is a drone's connection to mother ship Google.

Android doesn't even have a home button it has always used in screen virtual buttons, only some OEMS were including the middle home button.

I can't wait to get rid of the headphones jack. They will have to at some point. Apple always sets the standards, and Samsung will follow. Eventualy.

Wow. If I wasn't so stuck wit Apple Ecosystem, the Samsung simply blows away the iPhone X. Full screen and no notch. You can almost feel Macrumors reviewer is trying hard to not just say S9 is just much better than iPX.

It's not just Macrumors, it's all the tech sites. Android sites are hesitant to come out clearly and say it blows away the Pixel. When Samsung had RAM management issues on prior Galaxy S models, all the tech sites had no issues pointing it out and inflating the issue. But now the tables have turned, Samsung addressed those issues, and nobody is talking about speed tests that show the S9+ blowing away everyone. Samsung is in an odd space where, Apple followers hate them because of their beloved iPhone, and Android followers hate them because of Google and their Pixel. Other OEM don't get this hate because they're not a threat to either Apple or Google.

You can't predict the future without understanding the present. Android does not necessarily need a home button, every manufacturer is free to choose their own control scheme. Some use a physical home button with two sensor buttons, some use only sensors, some don't use buttons at all, relying on onscreen controls.

The search bar on the home screen is a search bar. No one is forcing you to use Google's services. You can keep your Android completely google-free

Thank you MR for removing the colored lights in the background. It was a distraction and accentuated your video editing.

"When it comes to performance, Samsung's Galaxy S9 doesn't quite measure up to the iPhone X in terms of benchmarks, but in day to day usage, the difference isn't noticeable."

^^ This is the type of quote you see all the time in the tech press regarding the iPhone having a significant advantage for performance, and yet the tech press treated temporary performance drops for the iPhone shutdown prevention feature as if it were a serious problem for users. Seriously, if the phone you start out with is already significantly faster than the competition and that's "not noticeable" vs. a slower phone, then how would it be noticeable if the performance dropped a bit to prevent a shutdown?

The Bixby button can be reassigned for other functions.

Using Samsung's software, it can only be enabled or disabled. Some apps on Google Play claim to be able to reassign the button with a decent amount of work required by the user.

You honestly think the notch is the differentiating factor between the two? Notch or no notch, the experience on the X would be eaxtly the same. The differentiating factor is software. Hardware is becoming less and less relevant. It comes down to the OS that brings the best of performance, security, privacy, apps, ecosystem, and support. Apple leads here and provides the best all around experience. Whether or not the phone has a notch means nothing to me and other Apple users.

I don't usually get feature lust, but 960fps slow-mo? I want that. I need that.

Slow-mo fps has been stagnant since the iPhone 6 released 3.5 years ago. Come on, Apple. Samsung can have 960fps. Make it happen.

How do they not add up? Doing a processor intensive task (encoding video) using the same App the iPhone slaughters the S9.

I’m getting an S9+ soon. If you like I’ll let you pick some Apps to run and compare. I doubt you’ll be happy with those results either.
Videos Dean, or it didn't happen.
It can't be hard to do seeing you are doing video encoding tests, why not throw a video up to verify while you're at it.

While I do dislike the notch, I think the edge screen is worse. Especially in such a tall device. The phantom touches have been an issue for me with each iteration. If I were presented with these two as my only choices, I'd go for the iPhone X.

Ah yes, the old fall-back. Anyone says something goog about Apple they must be biased.

The iPhone is faster. Period. And you can actually run superior Apps unlike Android where devs can’t be bothered to create truly powerful Apps. Such a waste buying an Android phone or tablet with a fast processor that never gets utilized.

Well it's not an Apple channel and he is biased. He's been a Apple cheerleading for nearly 20 years.
It's no a fallback and there is no slaughter for me to have to resort to a fallback.
But keep on keeping on, someone needs to safeguard Apple's reputation and you're doing a valiant job, Steve would be proud.

You're blind right? Or you never seen and hold one in your hands...

I can't speak for him but I haven't really seen the S9 but the S8 is not that hot IMO. I always think Samsung's phone look cheap, even compared to some of their Android competition. Then again, beauty or aesthetics are in the eye of the beholder. It's just personal preferences or tastes. Neither is right or wrong. It's just an individual's opinion.

I find Android confusing but I've been using iOS since 2008. There's nothing more advanced about either. A inclusion or absence of a single feature here or there isn't going to make or break the overall experience. It's splitting hairs.

I live comfortably in the Apple ecosystem with a Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, HomePod, etc. That's me. These reviews are worthless. The majority of consumers don't look at such reviews. Once they make their initial decision they likely aren't changing.

The S9 looks seriously ugly in my opinion, as did the S8. I’m sure many will disagree but for me it fundamentally fails aesthetically.

Honestly I don’t know why people are so hyped about it.

Not only it's ugly, those stupid edges distort the content and create extra glare. Form over function at its worst.

They've gone downhill since the S7 and the Note 5 in my opinion... but they didn't look as cool so...
