Anyone else not seeing the Multitasking Gestures in the settings? I'm running 4.3, and based on the other screenshots I've seen, it should be right between the side switch settings and the date/time settings. The side switch settings are there, but no multitask gestures. I have a 32GB WiFi+3G.

I have the same problem.

Sure there is in iOS 4. Where have you been for the last eight months?

Uh no. Anything that's in the multitasking bar can only run in the background for a maximum of 10 minutes, and many won't even do this, but just go "in the background" and will not be using any actual processing power.

If you're not a developer, and haven't enabled the iPad for development, you can't enable the multitouch gestures.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Someone please post a download link that's easy for everyone to get to.

This beta needs a registered udid to actually work. The only beta that doesn't need the udid is the gm/grand master. Many people downloaded the gm before it was released during 4.2 so hope that helps.

Well, as I see it, this is the slow education of the "masses" toward gesture computing - which I see as a good thing. However, I really wish that we could just go ahead and get the whole gesture lexicon out to the public so that we might study and learn it....I'm tired of these tidbit baby steps. Give it please.

:)

Um yes. If you have multiple background apps open, the drain is cumulative. Also, apps will run longer than 10 minutes. For example, Pandora. Finally, if your are tying to make it through the day on one charge, it makes more sense to kill the app ASAP rather than wait for it to shut down on it's own. Electrons are electrons, and the more you save the better.

How about... that is AWESOME?! Can't begin to express my frustration with the iPad button and trying to double-click it... Works well on the iPhone, iPad though, not so much.

Can't wait for this!

I did this in Xcode 4, beta 5 (yes 5, not 6). Don't know if it works in Xcode 3. Launch Xcode, plug in your iPad and you'll see a window pop up with your device. Big button there that says "Use for Development". That's your man.

Hey, this worked for me too. I guess I didn't have my iPad set up for development, just my iPhone. If you aren't using Xcode 4, and instead using Xcode 3, just open it, Menu bar > Window > Organizer and find your device in the sidebar. Then just click "use for development".

These gestures are working pretty sweet.

This. Is. Dumb.

My dad just purchased an ipad not too long ago and so I got to play with one, finally. I was surprised that the gesture feature was not included, but it's nice to see they're coming soon! :)

You should probably educate yourself on the multitasking API's that apple allows a little. Pandora is one of the few apps that can run, along with VOIP apps. Other than that the apps go into a suspended state, a few run what is called "task completion" and then go into this suspended state. Suspended state is the norm for apps in the backround to go into. The few exceptions are only music and voip apps, and the few others that use task completion soon shutdown.

The battery effect is marginal at best.

loaded up the beta on my iPad (64-3G), registered in xCode, gesture option works perfect :)

Now for the actual gestures, on my iPad they're extremely buggy, the app "shoots" back to the previous app. Example: In mail, swipe right to goto settings, it shows settings for a second, then shoots back to mail. it'll eventually work if you keep swiping, but its not as smooth for me like it is in the videos

No, sorry, let's not start copying Android (Honeycomb). Every device needs physical buttons especially in times of software issues...

Yeah, but slapping something with your hand as if you're searching for gold at the end of a double rainbow isn't the most...natural...hand gesture guys can make. I'll stick with hitting the home button.

You guys saying that the home button will stay around have seen this, right?

Those are pretty sweet! Will make navigating between apps and the multitasking bar much more convenient.

I'm surprised no one on here has whinned about this video and it violating some kind of NDA.

What about my post was not correct? What? Where? I said if Pandora is running, it can go longer than 10 minutes. I don't see how I need more education when my post was correct. Typically one needs edification when they are wrong, which I was not. It may be 10 minutes, it may be 5 minutes,...but those minutes are more CPU cycles and hence more e-'s into the ether and less up time.

If I want to turn off Skype, Pandora, or whatever, then it should be easier than it is now. I'd suggest something like the metaphor used in the Palm Pre. I tried it a few times and boy is it smooth.

The current Apple implementation of turning off apps is asinine. There is just no other way to put it.
