Traveling or not, it is still really late to release a review of a product that has "short" update cycle.
A month would be fine really, but now its been 3 months now.
Even if his observations are still valid, a review of a laptop that has a 8-12 month update cylce after 3 months, is still a bit to far in to its life span to be really relevant.
Especially since there is a Haswell refresh in 3 months time, and if Apple does an update then, just like it did last year. Then the review will only be "valid" for a really short time period.

I just keep hoping that the reason for the delay is that the review will be so damn interesting that he is quadruple testing all the benchmarks to make sure they're accurate...

maybe the reason is he's still struggling to find one with a display that doesn't turn yellow :p

I still hope a review gets released soon. Has anyone tried to reach out to him regarding the status of the review. His twitter indicated a review was being worked on and Mr. Hammer on here said no eta's. I have not seen any updates in the last few weeks.

The refresh on the mobile front will likely be very minor. Last year's Ivy Bridge refresh bumped up frequencies by only ~.1ghz.
The more interesting release will probably be Haswell-E for desktops in Q3.

last year's bump was mainly to lower the price of the 13" significantly. They already lowered the prices back in october for late 2013 haswell, i'd be honestly astonishd if there's a minor refresh in february.

Mr hammer provided some comment about the review but I have not noticed a post from him lately. Is he still a moderator and active on here?

I guess Anandtech will not publish the article. It's like 3 months already??

PS. I'm glad I didn't wait for the review, rMBP works like charm :)

I wonder what he'll choose to write about at this point–– GT3 was covered pretty well in the macbook air review, there were some CPU benchmarks in the Mac Pro review, and Iris Pro has been covered. Maybe he'll focus on Iris 5100 since there haven't been any benchmarks on that yet...

Who told you they won't??? Stop misinforming people by saying that. It is a fact that the review will come. Complaining about the review taking too long in one thing but do not make stuff up. A couple of posters have also made a claim that there won't be any review even though it has been stated that there will be a review.

At this point, it has been delayed to the point of irrelevance. I'll still read it, but the computer and its competitors have been out for months.

They should've just said they weren't going to post a review. No big deal. In any case, as I said a month or so ago, there's no point now.

There isn't going to be a review. Even if we buy the traveling excuse (which is doubtful since he released the Mac Pro review a lot sooner in its product cycle), it's a bit late to put one out now. Assuming that Apple still follows the current pattern with the MacBook Pro, there will be a refresh in a couple of months at most--meaning that whatever review he puts out would only be relevant for that amount of time. He's better off writing a review for the next refresh.

I would still read it, if only for that signature writing flair of his which is able to break down heavily technical jargon into simple explanations that even a tech noob like me can understand.

Heck, he could review a trash can and I would still read his article.

AFAIK, Iris, and the not Iris Pro, has not been reviewed yet. Its review is important for people who are considering 13-inch because it is their only choice. I assume this aspect must be important also for Mr Anand because back in 2012 when he reviewed first-gen 13-ich rMBP he had stated that he wonders how the next generation 13-inch would perform considering the room for improvement available for the 13-inch model. Last, but not least, in his 2012 review as far as I remember he had pointed out the UI lag problem, which was even available in the highest 15-inch model, and stated that it might be obviated with improvements in CPU and/or GPU and/or OS. Considering all these aspects have improved in October 2013 rMBP, I assume all Haswell rMBP owners or people considering buying any model with any configuration would like to know if there is any improvement in this regard.

If you got caught in the middle of the crossfire he found himself in, would you continue to reply?

Given what Anand writes about, which is not the junk in a run of the mill review, it wouldn't be irrelevant at all. As I've stated previously, there's a very useful function served by his reviews of building a repository of advanced knowledge, and that stuff is useful in a completely different way from, "Should I buy this product or not?"

+1. Can't believe there are still so many people waiting eagerly for Anand's review. Also been happily using mine for months now :p

Don't be so defensive. Paapaa says he is guessing. You however say it is a fact that the review will come. Now how told you they will?

thats too bad, he can't control when the review comes out.

its been 3-4 months at this point.

anyone? have not seen any updates here or twitter, has the review been cancelled?

I've gotta say, gang... I think the jig is up. I, like many of you, have been keeping a close eye on this thread since November. NOVEMBER. It's mid-January. I was curious about the new rMBP and excited to see some benchmarks. Yes, like many of you, I knew I was probably going to pull the trigger this time regardless of what anyone said to replace some ancient equipment, but it would be nice to go into a big purchase with as much knowledge as possible.

Everyone told me, "Wait for Anand. His reviews are the best... just wait...any day now..." In the meantime, so many other reviews and benches came out... and I still told myself, "Wait until Anand's... he's supposed to be the best." Honestly, the other reviews were pretty vanilla, so I kept waiting and looking forward to the heralded "thorough expert"... checking this thread with every e-mail notification. Look at my user name: I'm PATIENT WAITER for goodness sake.

Up until these last few months, I had no idea who this "Anand" fellow was. So, I read up on him and his company. He's a self-made millionaire, and that's very impressive. He obviously works hard and has achieved tremendous success at a young age. I admire - and envy - those qualities and successes.

But sadly, here's what I've learned: He and/or his people seem to be dishonest, or at the very least, incredibly misleading. Indicating to a fan base that a review is coming... when the reality is, it hasn't and probably won't at this point. (Go ahead and prove me wrong. Please.) Having employees post to this thread, even if on his or her personal time, that something would be definitely coming "before the holidays".... which holiday exactly? President's Day? Martin Luther King Jr. Day? July 4? Maybe we'll see something before Labor Day if we're lucky.

So he's "traveling". Yeah? Seems to have time to post a lot of other reviews since the rMBP was released. And yes, I understand that the Mac Pro and even XBOX are much more important on the spectrum than an incremental update to the rMBP. That's fine and absolutely valid. But I, for one, don't appreciate being led on and lied to. If it's not coming, that's perfectly fine. I'm an adult, I can handle it, and so can the rest of the people here. In fact, you owe me and everyone else here absolutely nothing.

This post probably won't be very popular among the loyal followers and it might even get me hazed out of this forum. And to be clear, I don't mean any disrespect to Anand and his crew either. The work that I have seen is very fine. These words are just one person's opinion and you probably couldn't care less - it's an internet forum post. But perhaps just offer up these loyal fans a little bit of honesty next time. Or even this time - it's not too late. All I know is that I won't be contributing revenue by clicking over to the site anymore.

Cheers,
Patient Waiter -- patiently waited long enough.

I've been saving my rant for the 3rd month anniversary of this product, even though some forumites started to mention this around 20 days ago. Some even said 3-4 months. Nope: The product was announced on the 22nd of October with immediate availability, and today is the 23rd of January-- yes I waited yesterday with the futile hope that Anand and his team might feel ashamed and publish the review before the 3rd month anniversary, but it was for vein.

Regardless of whether you think this is an important or inconsequential update, not reviewing a product within 3 months after its shipment date while stating through his own words and his team members' statements that Anand is working on the review and repeatedly delaying the review for various reasons is not, AT BEST, in line with the practices and rapid evolutions in such an industry. Not to mention that some if not most of the products reviewed in the meantime IMHO contradicts with the travel schedule and CES excuses.

Assuming that Anand is not -at least officially- surfing on this forum, Mr Hammer, please MAN UP and tell us whether the review is on its way or not. If so, I can understand that you may not provide a precise date for valid reasons as the review won't be published unless Anand feels comfortable with all aspects, but the crowd here deserves at least a time frame/window. If you are experiencing a defect due to which you have been going through a number of replacement units, please kindly share this info as well, which would not only justify the delay of the review, but also greatly affect buying decisions of the ppl who has not purchased the item or who bought but can still return their units within the return period.

for everyone crying around, has anyone seriously tried to contact Anand?

I mean I am waiting for the review too, but that is only, because I really like what he (and the other folks at anandtech) write.

I've said it before and state it again.

If a company that reviews technology, gives a certain award to a product and they fail to publish the next review of that product, even while stating in the first review that the next iteration might solve some important issues, they have either a management issue or are full of bogus.

Either way, I've lost my interest and I've found other websites giving me useful information too.

i hope the review is published or we get a twitter post that the review has not been cancelled.

Someone using Twitter might contact him. He usually answers there. But hey, 3 months! This is rather pathetic...
