Why do people prefer this persons reviews so much? Just curious as I don't know much about him.

Because he goes into an incredible amount of useful detail and actually provides insights on the products, far above and beyond the totally useless and superfluous commentary that other sites are known for (compare with The Verge's "review" which basically amounts to "I can play Portal 2 on the subway!") but you don't have to take my word for it.

Read his review of the original 15" rMBP last year and draw your own conclusions:

I think the rMBP has been his top priority lately (he always has more than one review in the works) but it's the travelling that has caused the delay.

Any estimate on when it will be posted ie days, weeks, or months?

We never give ETAs because we post stuff when we think they're ready. However, I'm sure the review will be up before the holidays.

Thanks for the info. The expectations for this review are high, I bet it will be excellent with the extra time it has taken.

I just came back to these forums after being busy with university. Just thought I'd say, I was checking Anandtech on a daily basis for the review, that was a month ago. I've since bought a rMBP Haswell and absolutely love it. I know Anandtech is the best but punctuality is important too. I feel this review should have taken no more than 2 to 3 weeks. But I'm eagerly awaiting to read how fantastic my purchase was ;).

I guess you meant "in the holidays" with "before the holidays", right? Because we are already in the holidays. Or did you refer to X-mas?

Do you have a policy of not publishing reviews/articles on weekends or Sundays? I will at least won't be checking this thread at the weekends.

I agree. I started to suspect whether they are holding the review on purpose to generate buzz and further improve Anand's reputation. I remember some posts in this thread where some forumites asking "who is anand?", now they know him by virtue of this thread.

You could send Anand the link for this thread saying we're getting impatient :D

GETTING impatient??? I was "getting impatient" a week or 10 days after release. We're 6-7 weeks out now, hope that's not a trend. Translate that into tech time, and you might as well not do a review.

Meanwhile the site has been publishing reviews for two-bit processors and random stuff. In my mind, the latest Macbook Pro release is the biggest news in the consumer laptop world, likely the flagship of laptop innovation, and if someone is in the computer reviewing business, they should be dropping everything to have the review out within a few days.

It's not like no one knew it was coming...

Jack Sun is right. iPad Air has been reviewed, then iPad Mini Retina, then lots of other unimportant stuff and still no rMBP. I was waiting for the review for 2 weeks after launch, then bought it.

It's really silly not to publish review of that importance within 2 weeks of product launch. I know you want it to be "perfect", but the truth is, no matter how good it will be now, it's useless for most of your readers.

Christmas. Usually we post on weekdays, especially big articles like the rMBP review.

Our goal is not to be the first. You really can't do a thorough review in a few days. We have multiple editors doing reviews -- Anand isn't the only one. While Anand's focus has been on the rMBP for the last weeks, our other editors focus on their own reviews and they get published once they're ready.

Most people have made their purchasing decisions this far past launch. The delay release is creating a lot of buzz. I wonder if he knows how many are waiting for this review. I wonder if Apple will do a spec bump early 2014.

I certainly hope not. I plan on refreshing my rMBP annually, don't see the point in Apple upgrading anymore than once a year as it does nothing but cannibalise their own sales. All I can say is I love my rMBP, easily the best system I've ever owned and with my student discount and perks it's not a bad buy at all!

Sold my Macbook Pro 15 Retina 2012 model and was waiting for this review to come out before buying the latest model. Black Friday came along and I couldn't wait any longer so I pulled the trigger on a late 2013 MBP retina.

Still interested in reading Anandtech's review when it finally comes out though. Hope it's worth the wait!

LOL another person who has already purchased one yet just want to read Anand's review to feel good about it. Like I've said earlier, you might as well masturbate over your new rMBP to feel good about it. :p

Actually, more frequent product introduction increase sales overall. Cannibalization of the previous product is not a problem for either revenue or margin.

There will almost definitely be some sort of upgrade in the first half year or so of 2014. It would be a giant break with historical pattern and precedent if they didn't...not to mention stupid from a business perspective for the reasons mentioned above.

Some are waiting for the review before they buy, it's too bad because pre Black Friday best buy had rmbp $250 off and there have been good sales that are now over. Bestbuy is now full price, so if I get one now it will be full price from Apple or best buy. Just hope the review is before Xmas.

I wonder if he knows/cares that people wait for his review before they purchase. If he doesn't want to review anymore, that's his right, wish he would post that info.

Tech changes so fast I am sure there will be another hot product out soon. For example I am not looking for an iMac review, if one came out know I wouldn't read it.

If that's what gets your socks wet…

Anand's reviews provide a unique analysis, that can be interesting and informative even if you already have the product.

Not being first is one thing, but the delay on this is absurd. If you continue to have such delays in the future people will no longer respect your publication, nor take you seriously. I don't really care one way or another, but it is something you should be aware of. At this point I'm not sure why you would even do a review. It's almost better if you didn't because it has taken so long.
