Not being first is one thing, but the delay on this is absurd. If you continue to have such delays in the future people will no longer respect your publication, nor take you seriously. I don't really care one way or another, but it is something you should be aware of. At this point I'm not sure why you would even do a review. It's almost better if you didn't because it has taken so long.

That was my point, I don't want to read a xbox 360 review now that Xbox one is out. At some point in time a review even "detailed" is just too late.

I don't think one and a half months is even that absurd when you take into account that iPad Air and iPad Mini reviews have been done during that time. Furthermore, keep in mind that this time Anand is reviewing both 13" and 15" at the same time -- it takes double the time. These are products that you actually have to use for a period of time to come up with an in-depth conclusion, running a few benchmarks and calling it a day is completely different.

It wasn't Anand's plan to be this late, he wanted to finish ages ago but things change when you're constantly traveling for a month.

Why do you think that? It's not like we're going to see an update in the next few months.

this past January (I think) apple spec bumped the Rmbp. last year apple releases 2 full size iPads. they update quick.

100MHz bump in CPU frequency is not something I would even call an upgrade. Definitely not something that requires a new review since the fundamentals are still the same.

Sure, having the review out the day after release would have been nice...but hell, the man has a hundred other things to do. What's with the disparaging remarks? If you're upset, boycott Anandtech, don't read the review, and find yourself less informed. Last time I checked, we aren't paying them to write for us. Their staff is giving us their insights free-of-charge.

yes. the first gen Rmbp "had image retention" and many on here said the update ones did not. I like amand opinions more than benchmarks

Just curious but did you guys find any issues with the displays of the models you received? I personally went through four different 15" rMBP Haswells before getting a refund due to yellow spots on the display in the bottom half of the screen and I'm just curious if your reviewer found the same thing on their model?

Thanks.

How come the review has 2 at the same time? doesn't anand usually seperate the 13 and the 15?

But that's not something we can really test or even find out. The sample size would have to be rather big to make any conclusions, which is not financially efficient (and Apple won't provide multiple samples).

I've got no idea. Anand's been busy so there hasn't been time for chitchat, only urgent stuff. I bet you'll find out once the review goes out, though.

Depends. Now they were released at the same time and Anand is doing both reviews so I guess it streamlines the process to just do one. Fundamentally they are quite similar after all.

Can't he just release the one he has done already instead of waiting for a super review for both. seperating both 13 and 15 was a better strategy than making us wait for a super review.

I don't think he has either ready. Combining them into one is more efficient since there are lots of things that apply to both models (new CPUs and the changes they introduce, PCIe SSDs...).

I don't have a late 13 rMPB or intend to buy one. Still, I love to read anandtech articles (not just anands)
Other people read the newspaper or Fifty Shades of Grey, I like reading tech articles. So I am hoping for some good literature for the christmas holidays ;)

This quote could work for Anands reviews too:

You're late.

A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.

Got my Haswell 15", Samsung display, absolutely flawless, no IR what so ever.

i have been checking today for the review, nothing yet just smartphone audio quality post. maybe monday.

i wonder if they will ever do a podcast again?

I don't understand why people are so negative here.

1. Anand provides one of the most detailed and thorough reviews that are available for free (and I'm not sure if there are any better reviews if you are willing to pay for them). It takes a bit longer this time, but that's better than releasing a half baked review.

2. The reviews usually contain a vast amount of useful information, even for those who are not currently in the market for an rMBP. Some of the things I look forward to reading about:

- battery life difference of the dGPU model
- battery life low/high end 13'' models
- thermal throttling
- SSD speeds
- display properties
- screen lag with scaled resolutions

Not all of these points might appear in the review, but I remember reading an i5 vs. i7 comparison for the 13'' MBA and found it very useful. And it will be relevant for up to a year, since I doubt that we will see Broadwell MBPs anytime soon.

Finally thanks to Hellhammer for giving us some updates :)

Some are waiting for the review before they buy, it's too bad because pre Black Friday best buy had rmbp $250 off and there have been good sales that are now over. Bestbuy is now full price, so if I get one now it will be full price from Apple or best buy. Just hope the review is before Xmas.

What finally got me to pull the trigger on a purchase was that the return period at the Apple Store (and most big retailers too) has been extended until first week of January I think. So even if you buy now or during Black Friday, etc, you have about a month to return it. Since Anandtech's review is coming before xmas, you still have time to read the review before the return period is up.

still no review Monday. why are other reviews taking priority over MacBooks? more interested in ssds?

I'm not buying a new Retina MacBook Pro until I've read Anand's review. No matter how long it takes.

many share your opinion. I wonder what can be done to speed up reviews, subscription based instead of free?

It's funny, because I was just thinking that people were acting in an unrealistically entitled way as if they were paying Anand. This is highly valuable free content people. I am eager to read the review as well, but quit your bitching.

No bitching intended. On the contrary, I highly respect Anand's reviews and am waiting patiently (albeit on a daily basis) for his assessment. Has he noted yellow-tinted displays? Extensive backlight bleeding? Is the Nvidia 750M a worthy upgrade to the 650M? Do we need the dedicated GPU at all, assuming the Iris Pro 5200 is no more than 20-30% slower and provides a significant improvement in battery life? And has the 13" rMBP finally reached the point where it can be recommended as THE ultraportable with its balance of portability, endurance, display quality and graphics performance? None of the reviews I've read answer these questions to my satisfaction.

Anand, if you're reading this thread, be assured that we believe in you and most of all that we trust you to help us make an educated and unbiased buying decision. Take your time and best wishes to you. :)

You're absolutely right, in the context of other reviews taking priority, it isn't really that absurd. I think what most people in this thread are upset about is exactly that - other reviews taking priority - since most of the people in this thread are far more interested in the MacBook Pros than in the iPads.

Of course, if you had bumped those reviews to prioritize the MacBook Pro, people in the iPad forum would be making their own thread and voicing their displeasure at the MacBook being prioritized over the iPad.

At the end of the day, you just can't please all of the people all of the time. :p

These are not questions you should expect to find answers to in a review. Reviewers get one or maybe a couple test units. For things that are clearly intermittent problems (which these clearly are), basing any decisions on the luck of the reviewer's draw doesn't make any sense.
