Yeah and the most interesting one too: 16GB/512. Exactly what I want. But it's a June 2012. I don't know how I feel about that.

Still thinking a lot about what I should do now. Technically I can wait until the end of August. But then I might as well wait until mid September. I don't want Apple to delay it to October though. That's going to suck a lot.

Anyone else starting school at the end of August too? What are you guys planning to do?

I'm waiting as long as I can. I technically need a rMBP for school at the start of September, but I'm gunna hold on with my 2007 MBP as long as I can.

you are one brave soul. My 2009 MBP is going to be hard to force to work that long, but maybe that is because of the previous owner. my grandpa caused liquid damage, multiple dents, and the superdrive doesn't work. Also, the computer occasionally goes to sleep for about 30 seconds. I am tempted to get a new one now, but I don't really need a pro computer until later in college.

Wow 2007 nice. I've not had one single problem with my MBP except for the GPU which is technically Nvidia's fault. But other than that, it was me who broke the screen so I have to plug into my external at all times haha.

Yeah I think I made up my mind to hold out as long as it takes. Then again, what if the current one is the last MBP to have a dGPU?

Do you guys think Apple will put both the Iris Pro + dGPU (maybe 750M)?
So far, we're pretty sure that Apple's not going to update the cMBP and we saw the 5200 in Geekbench so we can probably see that this was the rMBP, not the cMBP results. Of course, things can change in September/October and they put the HD 4600 in it but is that likely?

I think I'm just holding out for the battery life and the PCIe SSD at this point and just hope Apple doesn't drop the dGPU yet.

some people are speculating they wont launch the haswell version till 2014. They say the iPad and Iphone are getting updated late 2013 and the macbook will get pushed back. You heard it here first.;)

Strange that Apple is waiting so long to update the rMBP. From the recent rumours it seems September or even October are the most likely months, so the MBA will be better than the "Pro" notebook in terms of SSD, WiFi and battery performance for a good 3-4 months.

Apple better have something special in store that vindicates the late arrival (maybe IGZO display, TB2 etc).

I will be very disappointed if it is simply a new CPU/GPU combo with updates to the SSD and WiFi similar to the MBA.

The current generation MBPs are extremely powerful, and will be for some time. I bought a non-retina last month, and I don't regret it one bit. It's amazing compared to my old 2007 model.

I caved I just got a refurbished 15 inch rMBP 2.6 Ghz, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB HD. If the haswell rMBP comes out in the next few days I'll just exchange it. If it comes out in September and seems way better than what I have I'll just sell mine and trade up. We'll see how I feel about this decision in the morning.

I also resume uni in late August, so I definitely won't be purchasing a rMBP right now. I'll be following the rumours up until term is about to start and I'll make a decision then if I should just buy a 2012 rMBP or wait. I do have a 2010 Sony VAIO that I've been using for now. And while it gets the job done, carrying it around is such a pain and the battery life doesn't hold up nearly as well as it used to. So again, I'll see just before I start again and make a decision then.

Not sure if this question has been asked, but in your opinions, do you think that new macbook pros will have soldered ram too? If so I might just settler for an older 2012 non retina one.

If you're referring to the cMBP, my personal opinion is they're going to discontinue that line. We haven't really had much in terms of rumours supporting or denying this claim and our opinion on the subject has been going back and forth on it. If you're able to, I'd say wait and see because the cMBP line is really unpredictable right now as it could go either way.

13.3 & 15.6 inch IGZO displays are being produced as of June 2013. I am really starting to believe the next MBP will have IGZO displays.

I hope this is the case. IMO, in addition to the other enhancements, this would make the wait worthwhile. I'm a big fan of the thought of having a more efficient display that could potentially add to battery life (even if it's only by a small amount, it would still be worth it for me personally).

I hope not. I'm enjoying the ongoing conversation and speculation.

Me too. I don't post very often in this particular thread, but I check it daily because I like reading all the different opinions everyone has regarding this.

Iris + dGPU is extremely unlikely..iris pro by itself is already very expensive ($450-$650ish) compared to non iris. Adding a dGPU on top of that would simply be too expensive, and performance gains, while iris is slightly slower at gaming, would not justify the extra cost...

Yeah seems like Kuo was right. I could see Apple making two models of the 15inch rMBP. One with Iris Pro graphics for probably $1799 and then another 15inch rMBP with HD 4600+7500 that starts at the current $1999 price.

Perhaps the reason they're waiting to release is to sell more airs. The 13 inch cMBP is the most popular laptop. Apple probably wants to get rid of it in favor of the retina. I think a lot of consumers get the 13 inch because it says "pro," and think that the air isn't as good. By updating the air first, it gives people a reason to choose the air instead. Then, since people now think the air is "better" they can get rid of the cMBPs with less outcry..

Why has everyone lost hope? The update is coming today, don't worry.

It's quite possible. My bet is that Oppenheimer referred to the next earnings call in October. It would make sense, as a CFO usually looks back to explain what happened. So, after all the action that we'll see in the next few weeks/months, he can say: told you it was going to be busy :)

On the other hand, "fall" is usually defined as September 21st - December 21st.

Peter.

Hi guys,Im thinking of selling my MBP mid 2012 15' and then buy the Haswell Retina one..
Do you think I should sell it now or wait till the new rMBP arrives and then sell it?

Sell it now if you can do without its no brainer it will loose value when it's no longer the current gen

Apple's better of selling high-end Macbooks since their margins are probably higher.

I don't think there would be much of an outcry by dumping the cMBPs.

A 13" Air is a great replacement for a 13" cMBP. Better screen, lighter, smaller, faster "disk".

The 15" cMBP doesn't make a lot of sense right now anyway. Because any upgrade that makes it more decent (it only has 4GB of RAM...) brings it closer to the 15" rMBP's price.

An rMBP update to Haswell could also bring price changes which could make the price gap between the current cMBPs and the new rMBPs even closer. Although they could also lower the prices on the cMBPs if they get new hardware, but probably won't.
