Hi,

Ive been following this thread for months now, and I have a question for you.
Im trying to decide if to wait for haswell or to bite the apple and go for a refurbished one now.

If apple stops selling the mbp with the haswell update, will that lower the prices of the new retina?
When the new macbook pro actually comes out, will that lower the prices of the current one? And also, will the prices in the refurb store drop even lower or stay as they are now?
Ive also understood that the current rmbp have had display issues, mainly from LG. Is there any way to check from which manufacturer the display comes from before buying the computer?

Hope someone can clear this up for me, thanks!

Just wait with us :) Or buy one now ;)

No and No :) But $100 discount is expected.

Yes and maybe ;)

Yes, you can!

Me too! I'm just curious... :D

Where can I see the fortcomming Intel processor families (Ivy-haswell-broadwell-XXXX). I went to Intel website but could not find it.

better search using google, intel engineers do so.

type ark intel and what you want to find

ivy there wont be new cpus, the last ones were the Y family at the start of this year or so

haswell partial line is up, I think they will add aside the usual mid life spec bump new ones

broadwell there wont be any info aside some white papers that i dont think they have there, so better just google it or use aggregated sources like this thread

http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...68017-forget-intel-haswell-broadwell-way.html

we compile every info that we have on that thread

and we create new threads as soon as info appears on the next line, as you can see that thread is from 2010

Only if you buy the 15 inch rMBP, there is no way to know on the 13 inch rMBP

Ok I've decided. I'm gonna get the Haswell MBPr for Christmas. This way I can be aware of any bugs or weird phenomenon it has before I get.

Probs my plan to. Unless there is gonna be enough of a significance to Haswell V2. Then I'll have to wait till February or whenever >.>

My main concern is making sure Apple doesn't have any 'unexpected' 73279239094 problems with the computer though.

Apple support is pretty good, so I'm not worried about it, especially since the Haswell rMBP will be a second-gen laptop anyway.

Yeah I wonder if the 2014 refresh specs will be familiar on MR by Christmas

Familiar? If you mean similar to last year, then I'm sure they would. I doubt it would be much of a "spec bump" but my overall goal is to get the most solid MBPr. I don't plan on replacing it for a new one in two years like it seems everyone does on here. I'm still in college, so I just want any kinks to be worked out and use it for 5 or 6 years. I figure the second version of the second refresh should be the most reliable ;)

That and I want the lag to be mostly fixed. That **** annoys the crap out of me

Yeah I guess another way to put it would be, will we know what the 2014 specs will be by Christmas? And I'm in the same boat. Not gonna buy another laptop for several years.

Just bought a rMBP yesterday and didn`t even think about the update haha. Whatever, I have no problems with this version and will be fine with it for a long time.

Enjoy your hashwell rMBP`s everyone! :)

It's been discussed time and time again that the lag is mainly caused by software issues which are fixed with mavericks.

I haven't followed the bumps from 2008,2009,2010, and 2011, but if they're the same as last years, then I'm assuming we can expect the same this year. There will be a report mentioning when Intel plans to finish their V2 chip and likely a few sentence description of what improvements they'll make, and then the only thing we'll be able to assume is that that will be included in the spec bump, as well as maybe tb2 if that doesn't come with the release this october. Doubt they would change much else, besides maybe fixing a few internal things if they have problems this time around again. I heard they replaced some very minor interior components of the design from the 2012 to 2013 retina models. But that should all be squared away this time around as it's the second release now. This is, assuming they haven't completely redesigned it again this fall, but that's highly doubtful

I'm starting college this September and I'm a little frustrated that Apple hasn't updated the 13" rMBP. I feel like Apple is just trying to dump the rest of their stock with the bts promo. Looks like I'm going to have to spend the first month or two with my base 2010 mba (2gb ram 1.8c2d :( ), which isn't great for a primary computer. This will be my machine for 4 years so I'm willing to wait it out, but the sooner the update the better!

I have a feeling they're going to release mavericks and the rmbp at very similar times in order to advertise super battery life for the pros (I'm hoping for 10+ hours, it would be great to not have to worry about charging for an entire day of class/papers/hw).

is the new rMPB going to have a dedicated gpu like today's models with geforce gt 650m, or is it just going to be the onboard cpu/gpu solution? and how is iris 5200 compared to gt650m?

That's a great question. If you read this epic thread you'll find that it's looking like there will only be an iGPU. How that will perform in real life is anyone's guess.

So my 2010 MBP had a faulty logic board, which was replaced 3 times without success. BB is finally going to give me credit to buy a new computer. I'm currently without a computer, but I need one before school starts in late August. I plan on having this computer last me ~5 years, and I don't think the Air will be sufficient.

My plan is to buy a top-of-the-line (base model) MBA to get me by until October, then sell it and buy the Haswell MBP. My question is this: about how much money will I likely lose for selling a 2 month-old MBA? (I will buy it with an edu discount - $1250 instead of $1300.) Of course, my rationale for choosing the Air as my interim computer is that they likely won't be updated in October.

Apple computers hold their value very well, you could probably get ~$1100+ if you treat it well and keep all the literature/packaging. (Are warranties transferrable? you may want to find that out)

Edit: Looking at eBay, you likely could sell it for ~1200+, and it's quite a high volume item. (Of course, eBay takes 10%...)

Great; this then is what I will do.

If Intel only has 15W ULV dual cores and 35/55W quad cores, does that mean we could see a quad core 13" rMBP with Broadwell?

i am waiting for the Haswell 13'' rMBP just as many of you guys are. And in the mean time i think about a maxed out 13'' Air because university starts soon.

But today i had a revelation. Most of the time I will take my ipad to class (Master in Game Development).
Either sketching or typing whatever suits me best. (Maybe even pen&paper and the ipad just for books/pdf/presentations/..)

But here is the twist. An Air wouldn't help me at all. for all the stuff i can do on an iPad (writing/learning/annotating/sketching/mails/..) there is no real need for the Air. i need a power house for coding assignments and prototypes which delivers good fps even when i hacked some slow functions and unoptimized code in an all-nighter.

I am also concerned about photoshop/3ds max on the air or if i need to run VisualStudio in Parralles or VMware.

Don't worry about Visual Studio, it runs beautifully on my 4gb ram 2011 Air so will run even better on the newer 8gb Haswell.

that my hope, to bring differentiation to the line up, current difference between the air 13 and the rmbp 13 is that one is lighter and the other has a retina screen with a little bit of more performance, this year both are going to use ulv cpus

but fret not, thats not even going to be confirmed until we are nearing 1-3 months of the release of broadwell. and then we shall wait for what apple decides to do, the key is to look for the ones with the best igpu available
