Yea I see.

So you think about 9 hours on both models?

Ofcourse will be less when using the dGPU.

Side Question: right now the MBA is at 9 hours and 12 hours. With mountain lion. When mavericks releases with increased battery life. Will the air have even longer battery life? Will Apple change the specs to reflect mavericks battery life?

Look at 13" rMBP Haswell leaked benchmark. It'll most likely include a U series processor (4258U).

Ahh ok. So if it does use a U processor does that mean it will get better battery life or a cheaper price? Or get thinner? I was planning on getting either a 13 or 15 rMBP. But now I am leaning towards the 15 with dedicated GPU

Yes. The 15" will probably be iGPU only too. Also the 13" 2013 Feb model is on sale on UK Apple refurb store. (In stock)

15" iGPU only ? Iris 5200 or 5300? Either way it would still be a downgrade. I really hope that isn't the case, and I kind of doubt that will really happen

Most leaked evidence has reported this, but it's all still not finalised until we see it with our own eyes. There is no 5300, the highest spec iGPU with the current Haswell is 5200. Which is code named Iris Pro, think 5100 with L4 (hence it's pro). Sorry bud.

Let's hope it will be in September and not October :p

Well as long as we know it's somewhere between September and October, I'll be happy. Of course, the sooner the better, but I think there was an upside to Apple not releasing the new rMBP in July or August. Now I've saved up enough money to be able to afford both the 512GB and the 16GB ram. I was going to get the 256GB and the 16GB but I think the extra HDD space will be better as I've got a huge iTunes library and I thought about moving it to the cloud or keeping it on an external hard drive but I think it's a dumb idea and I will be much happier with the 512 GB.

The real wait begins in September.

I keep telling myself that, but I'm on a three week holiday next week :c, which will burn my pockets a bit. My huge iTunes library is now in the cloud though, which was possibly one of the best decisions I've made.

Actually, I was debating with myself whether to spend 2280 DKK ($410) on a 512GB upgrade or not. 16GB RAM is a must, but I too have a large iTunes library (about 140GB). So it could fit on the 256GB, but I don't like the idea of having only 100GB left for other stuff.

I sold my iMac right before WWDC, as I hoped they'd announce the Haswell rMBP, so until I can get that, I'm running off my 2008 Macbook Pro with 4GB RAM.

I installed a 40GB SSD in it - it's not much, but here after a few months, I've learned to live without my iTunes library, and I have instead signed up for Spotify. So I actually don't think I will use my iTunes library that much when I get the rMBP. Spotify is just nice - you get all the new music, and you can listen to their full catalog. The cost of upgrading to 512GB is about 4 years of Spotify membership, and I would save more in the long run, as I don't need to purchase new music.

So I think I will just put my iTunes library on a small external disk, and then use Spotify for the rest. Then I save more space, and 256GB will be more than enough for me when not having my iTunes library use 50% of that.

So I'm going for a base 15" Haswell with 16GB RAM upgrade.

Which storage are you using to store your iTunes music?

I think keeping your music in your cloud generally depends on how much you listen to your music and what your music tastes are. I listen to prog rock and classical music pretty much exclusively (and the lossless quality really requires huge amounts of space) and some of the albums are not on iTunes or Spotify which instantly rules them out and there just isn't any thing else out there worth paying for. The 512GB is $300 more yes, but I think if I opt for the cloud based solution, I would have to pay more money in the long run. And it would be extremely inconvenient as I would have to have internet to access them.

On the other hand, external storage is an option but again, it's inconvenient and I would still have to pay around 200.

The cost of upgrading to 512GB is about 4 years of Spotify membership

Exactly. Looking at how many years my current MBP has served me, I will be definitely be using the rMBP for more than 4 years, especially because of the SSD. So yes, I could pay for Spotify but why would I when I can get more mileage out of the 512GB?

Plus we don't know if Apple will drop the price on the rMBP if they decide to drop the dGPU, which would be even better (for the lowered price, not for the loss of a dGPU).

iTunes match, I believe if it's not on iTunes (or is of higher quality) it will upload your music onto the server for your own playback. I just normally create a couple of playlists a month and download them all to my iPhone. Might not be for all, but it's definitely one of the those features that tighten me to the eco-system because it's working for me so well between the different devices. I sound like such a marketing gimmick. :(

Either way, the worst case scenario is now less than 60 days away. Haswell rMBP's couldn't possibly slip into November?

I really hope they'll announce it at the September event, but last year, September was all about iOS, iPhone and iPods, while the October event was iPad and rMBP.

So I fear that we'll have to wait 'till October, however I see no reason why Apple would wait until October if they have it ready to the September keynote. They could just quickly go through the updated specs etc. It's not like it's a whole new design, new features etc. (okay, maybe there will be some small changes), so it would take MAX 5 minutes to present. The MBA at WWDC only took a few minutes too.

The September keynote last year was on Wednesday, September 12, and if Apple follows traditions, the one this year would be Wednesday, September 11.

Or maybe Apple will be shifting the iPhone and iPad/rMBP event?

In 2011, iPhone 5 was announced in October, so if they are behind schedule, they could maybe announce iPhone 5S/5C in October, and the iPad/rMBP in September?

When do you guys think they'll announce the Mac Pro? I don't think it's big enough to make a large event just for Mac Pro and Mavericks. I could see them combining these into ONE event:

- iPad
- Haswell rMBP + Mac Mini + iMac
- Mac Pro
- Mavericks (seriously - I think Mavericks is soon ready - maybe one or two more DP's, and then GM)

And then another event with:

- iPhone 5S + iPhone 5C
- iOS 7

My Macs usually hold up for 4 years and then I get a new one. My 2008 Macbook is an exception, only because I waited for Haswell :)

Of course we all have different needs, but I have thought about it, and before, I spent much money every one on buying new tracks etc. but with Spotify, I pay a flat fee and get all the new music. So I'm actually saving on this, as I don't have to buy MP3 tracks anymore.

But again; everyone has different needs, I just can't justify paying so much for extra storage, when the only thing that takes up most space is my iTunes Library. I'd rather use that money to get unlimited (new) music for 4 years.

Although I see your guess reasonable I would also like the idea of one event for iOS and the other will be OS X orientated. I think the OS X event will be September and the other will be in October, but that's just a random guess...

so 1 rumor say that benchmark with i7 already show that there is no dGPU
another rumor say that intel will make a special cpu for macbook pro

i ask you know that if the cpu from rumor 1 is special ?

How would the 13inch have 5100 and dualcore?
Those are only offered in ultrabook CPUs. Which the rMBP would have a regular mobile CPU right?

Also shouldn't the pro have more battery life that the air? It has more space. And last gen pros had more battery life than last gen airs

You don't think apple will upgrade the SSD? They did with the air refresh. I just figured they would do the same with the pros

No, all those things are wrong. The dual-core in the 13-inch rMBP will not be the same CPU in the Air and other ultrabooks. The 13 will have 5100 and dual-core, while the 15 will have 5200 and quad-core. All of these things have been confirmed through benchmarks and other leaks.

The Pro won't have more battery life than the Air because of the Retina screen. The Retina screen is very power hungry. Just look how much bigger the battery is in the Pro versus the Air. We will be lucky to see 10 hours of battery life.

The standard SSD in the Air was 64GB, at least on the 11-inch, and they made 128GB standard. I highly doubt Apple would make 256GB standard on the Pro, that is taking money away from them. The base 13-inch is already a good seller.

lets hope for 780MX in the nex RETINA MACBOOK PRO 15.4 " there is space...remove some battery

I think the iOS event will be first. Why? If people first spend a couple grand on their Macs (esp that Mac Pro), it'll be harder to justify *also* upgrading their phone early since they're going to start seeing their massive credit card bills right around then.

On the other hand, when the iPhones/iPads are announced, people will get caught up in the fervor of all the coverage and will impulse buy phones and tablets ("most of my money is still saved for my new Mac", and they're dying to spend that money anyway), and then come October and the Mac announcements, will *also* spend the money they actually saved. Mac buyers are more patient and more invested in their purchase—a few extra months won't make a difference as you can see in this thread.

Plus supposedly TB2. I'm still not convinced it'll show up in the MBP line until next year, but you never know.

So 650M performs 91.6% better (41 versus 21 fps)? Where did you take your math exam

21 is about 41 divided by two. How can that ever be a 91% difference?

(41-21)/41 = 0,4878 = 48,78%......

Seems to be a high inflation on math exams nowadays.

The math is strong in this one.
I drive 100mph, you drive 50mph.
(100-50)/100 = 0,50 = 50%.....

So i drive 50% faster

I got 2 pies , you got 1 pie.
(2-1)/2 = 0,5 = 50%

So i have 50% more pie than you!

I am sorry, but in this case the math is 41-21=20 20/21=.95 or 95%
