Any possibility for a price cut in the 13" model? I'm going to buy a 256gb version so if either the base price goes down or the storage on the base gets bumped up it's a big win for me.

I'm sure Apple doesn't think it's ridiculous.
Dell and ASUS already have now 15W Core i5/i7 notebooks available today. So I would expect Apple to have them soon. Still it hurts that I can go to a store and get one today unlike Apple's notebooks which are mostly still running Ivy Bridge.

The mobile Core i7 quad cores have been available for much longer and even the lower wattage/clock Core i7-4702MQ/HQ is showing stronger availability.

Edit: It also appears that the Iris Pro sporting Clevo is now available for purchase too.

Bah, I just couldn't wait anymore. Decided to get a PC laptop from an ODM with Haswell 7800MQ and a 765M. I'll have fun messing with all of the parts.

Apple and Dell have very different quality control standards.

Sure, but the end result is the same. They both suck...

The hackintosh is the way to go for people who are budget conscious and serious about working and gaming...

I am sure the next hackintosh pro benches will kick away the next Mac Pro and will cost half of its price...

Wow this is personal for you isn't it lol

In my experience the laptop lines usually (not always) are available immediately following the keynote (aka next day in retail stores).

I'm already mentally prepared for October so that would be cool

In all seriousness though, there aren't even many TB1 peripherals on the market today, let alone TB2.

And if the leaked benchmarks are any indication of what the future rMBP will have in terms of graphics, its going to be Iris Pro - which is no where enough power to run a 4K display (which was one of the arguments for TB2 in the next rMBP).

The only way is if Apple bundles their next Thunderbolt display (4K resolution) with a GPU built-in.

That is why the next rMBP will only have TB1. Which is a shame really, they should be on sale as we speak. But something other than TB2 is holding them back.

What are you talking about?
Iris pro can run 4k np at all.
If your talking games you are fooling your self with that way of thinking cos high end desktop cards have problems running games on 4k atm.
But iris pro is more then enough for running 4k outside of gaming.

I think it would be quite helpful for people like me who check up on this thread once a week (only to find that 200 pages of comments have been added) to get some kind of summary of what has happened so far!

As refurbished rMBP are slowly showing up on the site, I was wondering what actual unique hardware qualities will be improved from the current generation to the Haswell generation?

I will be running programs such as Adobe CC, Pro Tools/Ableton, AutoCAD and Final Cut but I am sort of confused if I should just buy one now or wait mostly because this whole Iris Pro vs NVIDIA 650 is all up in question. Will the next generation give some kind of boost from the current generation other than battery life (example: 1866 DDR3 vs 1600 DDR3)

And if the current generation would be a better choice would you say that 16gb would be required or could I get by (comfortably) with 8gb's of ram.

Uhm... Air?

The 15W Haswells are available in the MBA since end of June (or early July, I forgot).

I don't really consider the MBA a professional laptop. It's more for browsing the web on a sophisticated modern-looking couch.

They really should have put a retina display on the new MBA. I got one and returned it after a few days. After owning a 15-inch rMBP for 10 months I could no longer look at a regular TFT screen. I am even willing to pay $300 more and sacrifice 2 hours of battery life.

Hopefully the Haswell 13-inch rMBP will come out soon. The Kirabook is tempting me right now.

ram is somthing i have always struggled on choosing, ill be running logic pro and pro tools and am struggling to decide on 8 or 16 im also waiting for the updated rMBP as im going to be using it as a mobile rig

I doubt it would be a fluid experience (GUI animations - Miision Control etc). Even worse if you have the notebook in open mode, running both the retina display and the 4k external display.

Anyone get that e-mail from Apple touting what the "critics" are saying about the MacBook Air? Gee, I can only wonder what the praise for the Haswell rMBP will be like.

Any possibility for a price cut in the 13" model?
Yes, yields on 13" and 15" Retina displays continue to improve, so prices continue to decline. We've already seen price reductions since the rMBP introduction a year ago and I expect that to continue.

I bet they'll drop $200 this year. And then stay the same the following year. That would also put them in about $200-300 more expensive than the MBP's were in in 2009 or 2010. Instead of like $500-800 more expensive, lol. Either way, I find that much more reasonable, and the price to be less inflated. Whether that was due to apple wanting to milk the prices while the "Retina" display was the latest and greatest, or if it's due to the price of such components getting cheaper, either way I'll be happy to see prices seem less inflated.

The iPhone usually dominates the month from when it is announced to two weeks after it's available. I think this means the Haswell rMBP's will definitely wait until October :(

I agree. That's how I thought it would be. September always seems like iPhone's month. October is perfect for the new laptops release

Edit: I miss the days of 2009 when the 15" MBP started at $1,699 http://guides.macrumors.com/MacBook_Pro

Given the cuts in February, I say your chances of a price cut are slim to none.

Honestly, nothing noteworthy happens in the thread. Anything that's got the tiniest potential for being rumor-worthy shows up as a news article on the site. The hundreds of pages of posts are nothing more than idle speculation which ranges from informed and logical conjecture to "I want" lists.

You aren't missing anything.

iris pro has only been available since last week or so, the others are useless for the pro line

this staggered launch has been the worst since the core i line
