I never suggested that we would see 32GB MBPs this year. (For the record, I think it's implausible given that we can't yet get 13" rMBPs with 16GB.) I did suggest that we might see 16GB 13" rMBPs introduced this year (possibly as a BTO option). The memory cost would be approximately the same for the 13" as for the 15" models and the space constraints could be overcome as described previously.

BTW, I believe the cost difference would be trivial between two 4Gbit dies each one on its own chip versus those same two 4Gbit dies combined onto one chip. Would you agree?

I didn't mean to imply anyone was suggesting anything specific. I just want to clear up comparing the MBA LPDDR3 memory to the rMBP DDR3L memory.

I only think the 13" rMBP would support 16GB if the number of DDR3L parts are increased to 32 from 16 and I'm not sure there is room for that on the board to do that or not.

The overall cost of two single die 4GB parts would be less that the cost of one dual die 8GB parts assembled onto a board from everything I have seen for overall product costs.

Hi all same old story starting studies soon and not sure Haswell is worth the wait

Hi I´m waiting for the new rMBP 15" that may or may not arrive in october
I´m getting very close at talking myself into buying he current one. However in the long run I´m not sure the extra batter ilife I can gain by waiting will matter much. I do not need a computer my old MacBook 13" works fine nothing wrong so don't have to hurry. I like to wait for the Haswell rMBP but I suppose I need some good reasons or some advise to help me decide on waiting or not waiting for the next rMBP.

On advanse thanks for any suggestions you might have to offer me.

what kind of improvements are expected for the 13" rMBP? battery life (much more than 7hrs), bigger ssd perhaps?

The battery life will definitely be better in the new rMBP. The GPU will be a massive downgrade however (for games at least), unless Intel and Apple somehow conjure a miracle. I'm also considering caving in and buying a current gen.

1. Haswell will give you a much better experience as the hardware will better handle the demands of the Retina display. This will be especially noticed on the 13" with no dedicated GPU.

2. You said yourself your 13" Macbook works fine, so why not wait longer as you don't have a real need to upgrade at the moment.

3. The extra battery life will at some point be a welcomed addition. I thought the 4ish hours I got was enough, but I'd love more!

It won't have a bigger ssd, but a better one. The same ones being used in the new Air - pci express. And yes, better battery life. Probably like 9 hours. Wifi AC, and most importantly the better graphics chip so there isn't any lag like on the 2012 model.

Biggest improvement will be the graphics, which are going to go from HD 4000 to Iris 5100.

The new processor is a 28 watt CPU instead of the current 35 watt CPU, so there should be better battery life.

I read this somewhere in a news article on the net:
Analysts have warned it extremely unlikely that the new Haswell MacBook Pro range will launch alongside Apple’s biggest iOS products to date, which in turn means we’re really running out of time to see the new notebook range before the end of the year. Should the new iOS lineup rollout continue across October, we’re technically only left with November as a possible launch window for the 2013 MacBook Pro, or we’ll ultimately be looking at a 201 MacBook pro in the first quarter of next year.

I thought October would be the month of the release, so November would be disappointing, but well okay. Aside from wether this website is a good source for news articles or not, but is there really a possibility that the Haswell rMBP is only scheduled for early 2014? :(

There are some Clevo ODM options under 5 lbs. if you really need a gaming notebook. I've seen some decent reviews from Lenovo but the panel quality, resolution, and weight are always in question. You can take the optical drive out and put a weight saving dummy like the old PowerBook Pismo though! That's rare nowadays.

1080p IPS, GTX 765M, 4.6 lbs.

1080p IPS, Iris Pro, 4.2 lbs.

CyberPowerPC should have similar options available.

These are boutique PC vendors just selling the Clevo/Sager ODM models and they're happy enough to remove the branding too.

On a more Mac related note, while these Clevo models do tempt me I'd like to replace my Late 2007 Macbook instead. Though I can pick up a refurbished Ivy Bridge Mac Mini once the Haswell ones are out. I just Garageband and iMovie more than anything else and I enjoy OS X. :(

there are some clevo laptops running on hackintoches IIRC :D

Can you estimate how much lower the cost would be? I would have guessed only a few percent, but I've been out of the semiconductor industry for a long time.

If they're including TB2 and 4k, this would make some sense...

I don't get why people continue to say this about the lag. It is clearly the software and not the graphics that makes the 2012 rMBP lag with some UI stuff. It is true the new rmbps will have a better graphics card. However, I bet you that you they too will have the same lag issues until Mavericks, which is probably one reason why the new rmbps will be released around the same time as Mavericks.

Just wondering - are we supposed to be seeing any leaked photos of the Haswell MBP?

Or is this not that kind of release. :D

I think as we get closer to the launch date we'll see leaked photos of parts, SKU numbers, and other rumor inspiring information. Much like we are seeing with the new iPhone 5.

If they have an iOS keynote in September and a hardware keynote in October that will be awesome, just saying.

9to5Mac has a roundtable on what to expect for the September 10th event.

Am I the only one thinking it's weird that Apple would announce Mavericks release date without releasing shiny new MBP?

I would advise you to wait. The fact is the current model, although a fantastic machine, is a first generation product. When it comes to apple products you are always better off waiting for the 2nd generation. You would get the new generation Haswell processor, the updated Wifi and SSD and who knows what else along with a possible drop in the price. There is talk that with the new 5200 Iris Pro GPU they will drop the dedicated GPU technology, and a lot of people are crying about this, but what I am understanding is that it's a pretty good upgrade for the GPU if you are not a gamer or doing something super intensive. I myself surf the web, watch movies, use word processing software and use film production scheduling software for work. None of this is intensive therefore I don't think losing the DGPU will effect me whatsoever. My gaming is simple stuff like Scramble and Words with friends. Meanwhile the 5200 Iris Pro is much better suited for the retina display than the current GPU...From what I understand. I'm sure there will be people here that will debate that statement

Haven't they released hardware out of sync the OS in the past? Even offering a free upgrade for a few weeks? I don't know if it's completely weird.
