I really hope they won't wait until next year, that would be really disappointing, TB2 & 4K or not. :p

True that. I'd even be willing to buy the new haswell then sell it to buy some TB2 2014 refresh if it was worth it..

I really dont understand what is taking apple so long. Seriously i ve been waiting for ever for the new macbook pros. Is there an specific reason to as why they havent released them yet? you know since the new airs are out.

Do you guys see the cmbp being updated at this point, im about to pull the trigger on a 13 inch and the only thing holding me back is that.

Doesn't look like it. If you want the cMBP, I'd just buy now. It will probably be discontinued.

No. The 13" rMBP will be updated to similar design of the 15" rMBP currently. Other than that, the cMBP will most likely die in October.

The battery life will definitely be better in the new rMBP. The GPU will be a massive downgrade however (for games at least), unless Intel and Apple somehow conjure a miracle. I'm also considering caving in and buying a current gen.

What do you mean a downgrade in GPU? Does this mean the games run better on the current rMBP than the haswell rMBP?

"Massive" downgrade? That's a little dramatic. Read up on what the chip's strengths are. It's not all the bad.

Even though I'm committed to waiting for Haswell, I went into the Apple store today to compare the retina thirteen and fifteen and good lord... if it's possible to be sexually attracted to a computer, then I think I'm in lust with the fifteen inch retina Macbook Pro. Definitely going fifteen when the time finally comes.

It may be a tad dramatic, but I did mention that I was referring specifically to gaming performance. I'm sure there are some synthetic benchmarks where the Iris Pro performs better than the GT 650m.

I think we should have a specific thread for iris pro evangelists or apple marketing folks who hang out in this forum...:D

I really wanted a Haswell rmbp but that Iris Pro talk is scaring me. I am considering buying a refurb of current gen but will wait to see what happens in October. Is there a good chance I can get a specced out 15inch retina around that time (2.6ghz, 512gb ssd, 16gb ram, etc.) as a refurb? Historically speaking, is the stock for last gen products, especially the BTO versions decent?

It is just a question of when Apple can get the specific Haswell chips they want in sufficient quantities. It has nothing to do with Mavericks, Thunderbolt 2, iOS announcements, back-to-school, or anything else.

It would likely be in the single digit percentages for what I have seen.
That would not be cost prohibitive if Apple want to offer 16GB for the 13" rMBP.

I would be very surprised to see the cMBP updated again.

For the 13" models, games will run a lot faster. For the 15" models, most games will probably run a bit slower.

Anything related to an iGPU is a downgrade from a dGPU. Period.
Nonsense. Integration per se never reduces performance and generally improves it. The GPUs which Intel are integrating now are not the fastest GPUs available. However, in several years, it will not be possible to build a discrete GPU that can keep up with the fastest integrated GPUs that will then be available.

I'd say so. They're still selling 17" refurb MBPs even though it's been at least a year or two since they've been discontinued. Also, Iris Pro probably won't be as bad as you think (unless you play a lot of 3D games).

Wrong. OpenCL performance is way better than the competition, because of the L4 cache with EDRAM. Photoshop and video/photo-editing software that utilizes OpenCL (like FCPX) will see a performance jump.

I hope they'll use Iris Pro only. I'm not a gamer, but often use Photoshop. The GUI responsiveness will overall be better than with the HD4000. + better batterylife, because it doesn't switch to the dGPU all the time.

I'm looking forward to this!

This. For example, AirPort Utility shouldn't need the dGPU. At all. Yet, gfxCardStatus showed it as a dependency earlier tonight.

I don't understand why people are so against having an iris pro over a dGPU, the only area the difference in performance might be noticeable is gaming. In other aspects such as heat and battery life it will be a lot better.

The Macbook Pro isn't gaming machine...

Read the Mac Pro news today about the leaked performance test where done in 32bit.
Was it the same for the leaked rMBP tests?
And will it make a lot of difference or just some if the test where ran in 64bit mode?
I understand that it wont give 25% as it did on the Mac Pro.
But it should do some difference right?

But i guess if the tests of older rMBP (current) are run on the same test the end result will be the same.
But the 128mb cache should do some also.
