That said, I challenge anyone to have high expectations for the Haswell MBP after reading this major buzzkill of a thread. ;)

Personally all I want in the new one is 802.11ac, PCIe SSD and a Haswell CPU.

Hopefully my expectations aren't too high :D

If you add 16GB and a reasonably-priced upgrade to >512GB SSD, and you'll have all I want/need in a 15" rMBP.

I have no preference for iGPU or dGPU, as I'm currently on NVIDIA 9400M/GT gpus -- anything will be an improvement.

A slightly narrower chassis due to narrowing the display bezel would help with portability (my current 15" is a *hair* to big to fit in my daily-use bag), but I can live without that.

and what release date do you expect?

I don't know to be honest with you. I originally thought they would be announced at WWDC and then launched later that month. Since that didn't happen I really have no idea.

But I hope soon!

In my experience, there have been very few instances where I've found myself doing music work in areas with no power. Very few, as in: basically none. So I can't see myself paying a premium for battery life and slightly faster SSD/wifi if there isn't at least a dGPU to sweeten the deal somewhat...

What music apps are you using that require a dGPU to perform adequately?

Just bought mt rMBP today... Store said they have a 30 day exchange policy, but i'm not sure if i should just return it before the 14 days and wait for the new rMBP.

If money is not much of an issue for you... then WAIT. Improvements aside, you will be kicking yourself after the new ones release as you realize you have year old/ outdated tech. New ones will be out before you can blink.

But if you got it at a good price, then its up in the air.

Just keep it to "borrow" until the new ones release. :)

I just wish we knew one way or the other. I hope SOMETHING further leaks out before the event on the 10th. I'm fine with waiting until October, but having a new rMBP in the next 2 weeks would be awesome.

If apple doesn't release it in September, I'm buying a windows ultrabook.

YOU HEAR THAT APPLE? If you want my money... RELEASE IT!

/crosses fingers (...please don't call my bluff)

Man, nothing gets past you guys, eh? ;)

I also use Photoshop, and very occasionally play games. The point I was making is that it would take more than a battery life upgrade to convince me to fork over premium cash for a Haswell MBP.

All other performance points being more or less equal, I'd just as soon save $500 or whatever and get an Ivy Bridge machine.

For some reason i'm starting to feel the waiting for news about the invitations being sent out today/tomorrow more nerve-wracking than the thought of having to wait one more month for news about the new MBP.

Gorram it, Apple. I just wanna buy a laptop from you already.

Just preparing myself for the possible "just buy one now then" comments: If Haswell makes a big enough difference in terms of regular use than current models, I'll take the Haswell. If it doesn't, I'm getting the 2012 models but at a discount. Either way, I win... If I can take the waiting.

The invitations didn't come on Monday. They really should come today, or else there is reason to believe Apple is effectively postponing its event. Which wouldn't make sense, since most of the details about the 5S/5C were allready leaked.

No leaks about a MBP however... :(

As other posters have brought up before it's a lot less profitable to leak things about the MBP. It's such a big product and it would be ridiculously easy to see you trying to get a good angle on a picture. And through a very cursory reading of old news items the leaks for MBPs were almost always not of the actual hardware itself. We got SKUs/Model numbers appearing in online stores before they actually get released or benchmarks showing up.

Perhaps, the more compelling reason leaks for the MBP don't happen is that to an undiscerning eye there is no noticeable difference for whatever changes do go on in MBP production. They're not about to redesign the MBPs (at least the retina versions) after just one year and two/three revisions. Most of the leaks we've seen about the iPhone/iPad anything for the last few years were pictures of the screen or back plate and those leaks sell because you can clearly see the difference. An average Joe takes a picture of the wow-brand-new-never-before-seen logic board of the new rMBP and tries to sell it to a news site the news site is most likely going to think "what the heck is this? Are you sure this isn't last year's version?"

^Just my two cents.

This is torture. I have the money waiting for a MBP, but really don't want to buy current gen for various reasons (like the slower SSD, etc) and knowing we're so close to a refresh I want to hang on. Problem is it has to be on my desk because of the end of September, after promising to sell on my old computer to a friend at that point in time... so if they haven't released or are damn close (like days away) from releasing it by the end of September, I'm going to have to buy the old gen one :|

To the people saying no SKU=no MBP, where are iPhone 5S (and 5C)'s ? :p

Seriously though if they don't talk about Mavericks then we'd have to wait a few weeks, again.

The first retina mbp had no leaks whatsoever, a few rumours aside, so the absence of leaks is hardly a strong indicator of a product not coming.

Actually, I don't remember many MacBook leaks at all. A few SKU leaks from time to time, but never many hardware leaks.

The 13" rmbp was leaked, as far as I remember. But generally yes, macs tend to be far less prone to leaks than iOS devices.

If you take the recent refresh cycle into consideration (June - Feb - Oct - June -Feb - Oct etc) we'll see the rMBPs next month, so we've probably still got some waiting left to do.

That said, the refresh in Feb wasn't a typical update per se, so fingers crossed they're given the proper treatment a little early this year. Here's hoping.

I am currently typing this from an old Windows PC running an early beta version of Windows 3.1. WHEN IS THIS HASWELL MBP COMING OUT APPLE?!?

The invitations didn't come on Monday because it's a national holiday in the states. They will most likely come on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Yes, no leaks of part numbers for the rMBP's yet. I really believe it will be October. Just another five or six weeks...
