and... 16GB is supported... but... will see ;)

The current Ivy Bridge chips support 32GB max, so...

However, I can't see them not offering 16GB in the 13" rMBP considering you can get 8GB in the 11" and 13" Air. Isn't a "Pro" machine supposed to be better?

I'll hopefully be upgrading from my 2009 MacBook Pro. Unfortunately I have a feeling we won't be seeing an update until October which means I'll have to decide between getting the new Haswell 13" MBA or the current rMBP! Decisions...

So... Here we are, six days before the event; what happened to Ming-Chi Kuo?

Kuo was wrong so far with saying that the iMacs would be refreshed late August. He/She seems to be on track with the iPhones....not sure of the rMBPs and Mac Pro as he/she indicates mid/late Sept

This is Zany

As a potential newbie to the Apple world, being on a tight rope with Apple is fascinating. For me, the 6/2012 and 2/2013 models would be a step up from WindowsWorld, but as a consumer, I recognize the value of a new model just in resale value over time. So far, from this long thread, I'm not seeing the real tech progress an upgrade will make except for battery life, on a system that will most likely be chained to a desk at either end of a destination.

My gut, and all your postings, make me think we are looking at a late October release for rMBP refreshes. Still, out of caution (and again, resale value) I guess I'll wait until next Tuesday. If they don't drop serious breadcrumbs on the rMBP path, that $2189 2012 refurb (15", 16gb, 512gb SSD) will be looking REALLY GOOD by Tuesday afternoon! ;)

I think most of us are starting to feel like September is unlikely. Fortunately, I don't have a real business need to buy this soon (just a pretty fantastic justification!), so October will be alright.

The more time that passes, though... The more other options seem like not such a bad idea. I'm new to the Apple world, and I'm just not sure how much I love the secrecy.

Don't construe the mania you're witnessing on this thread as a by-product of Apple's "secrecy". I don't know many tech companies who go out of their way to telegraph the specs of upcoming models months in advance while still trying to move current models.

No, I'm afraid what you're seeing here is tech nerd fanaticism in its purest form. ;)

I've seen posts around here basically saying that there are other (much cheaper) notebooks on the market with Haswell and nvidia discrete graphics - and that this is a reason why Apple could/should/would include a dGPU option in the upcoming Haswell rMBP.

Here's a few I found from a quick search - all except the Razer ($2000ish) are under $1000:

HP ENVY
Toshiba Satellite
Lenovo Ideapad
Razer Blade

I realize that none of these notebooks implement the Iris Pro chip (do any Iris Pro+dGPU notebooks exist?), but are notebooks like these a reason to think that Apple wouldn't leave "dGPU-customers" in the lurch?

Yea I have been looking at all those laptops and comparing them to potential rMPB, all are looking really nice. Only reason why I haven't ordered the razed blade yet is because 1. It only has 1600x900 :(. And 2. No Mac OS

But hey!!! Did you guys read this mornings post about apple tvs???

https://www.macrumors.com/2013/09/04/mysterious-set-top-box-shipment-records-hint-at-refreshed-apple-tv-coming-soon/

If you read the article it says apple has received some shipments in August of 'set top box'. But also a shipment labeled 'portable PC' !!!

That could only mean 2 things right, it is another restocking MacBook airs. Or it is the new haswell MBPs?? Am I understanding this right? Or am I missing something ?

Does this mean we could get the rMBP update on Tuesday?

It would be interesting if they did a separate 13" and 15" retina refresh - one of them next week and the other in later October.

That would be,

Actually they did launch the 15" and the 13" separately. I don't know how much that means. If they did update one next week, would it be the 13 or the 15..... Cuz I am dying to get a 13 ASAP!

If by full refresh you mean a complete redesign, don't they usually happen every 4 years? That leaves the next full refresh for the Macbook Pros in… 2016…

No I meant like not an Ivy bridge bump from 2.3GHz --> 2.4GHz like they did from June --> February last time? That's the kind of refresh I meant

I just read that three times and I have no idea what you mean.

I can think of three types of refresh:
1. Minor, like the February 2013 speed bump.
2. Annual, each year following the release of new CPUs from Intel.
3. Major, like rMBP and iMac last year or Mac Pro this year.

I think we're all expecting a typical annual refresh based on Haswell.

I wonder if people think that its an issue of HQ vs. MQ processors? Anyway, I also wonder what "portable PC" could mean...

Yes, the first one......

My point being, in my original post; that apple doesn't put new tech in what you call a "minor" refresh. They simply bump the clock speed of the same processor. So you have to wait until the next type of refresh, annual, in order to know there will be a sufficient change. And with the haswell's being such a insignificant bump in performance to begin with; for an annual update, it sucks that we'll have to wait till next October to see another. I hope they put in stage 2 haswell in a "minor" bump, sometime around march

I think it remains to be seen what Tim Cook will do, but so far it seems like he wants to avoid minor updates as much as possible. I think the reason we saw one this year with the MBP was because low yields for Retina displays at introduction of the rMBP required prices to be high. High prices reduced demand. As yields improved and Apple's costs diminished, Apple had the opportunity to reduce prices. It made sense to push out a minor update together with the price reduction to let consumers know there was good value. I'll be surprised if that happens again in 2014.

Are you trying to be a jack--? Or was my question that idiotic? Aren't there comparisons of gpu series out there?

If you didn't mean any offense, none taken.

The Quadro is just a "workstation" version of the Geforce, just like the FirePro vs the Radeons. What he was trying to say is: "Which model of Quadro are you talking about?" Without knowing which model they're including, you can't know where it's going to fall. It'd be like Apple telling us that the next Macbook will have "Intel HD" graphics: well, which one?
