Can we watch the conference (09/10/13) live on internet , and at what hour?

Don't torture yourself like that - just wait for the pulse of nerdgasms to spread across the internet with headlines that will shout out the answers to you...the force will clearly be disrupted within minutes of Tim Cook's "Welcome..."

Latest tomorrow we will get the first leaks!

Do tell us that is inside info, and not just fanboy lust like the rest of us...

Leaks can happen at any time or not at all. The absence of a leak means nothing.

I agree completely and I'd also like to add that these days, most leaks are made with the express permission of companies, in this case, Apple. Leaks are good advertising tools, they build hype. If there's one thing Apple has always been good at (at least in recent memory) it's advertising.

which leads me to believe that there are supply issues.. with apple waiting this long to release the rmbp's.. they are slowly losing some potential buyers who 1) wanted to take advantage of the back to school promos or 2) just plain got tired of waiting. you'd think they would've leaked just a tiny bit more info by now to hold onto these potential customers. by delaying.. the interest for the refresh is gradually decreasing.. especially since more and more competitors are coming out with enticing other options. i have a feeling october is the more likely scenario at this point.

I think I'll grab my popcorn, sit back and read the responses in this thread for another 30 days or so...

...because I have gotten so so very tired of telling you gentlemen that the release won't happen until October... and especially as I have tried to do so since February.

And then I'll have fun reading comments after the event in October stating how Apple is doomed because the update doesn't bring magical battery life, new form factor, new screen, degraded performance, etc...

...yeah...

All joking aside, I think it's futile to hope for anything Mac-related at the Sept 10 event. Apple has quite a lot on their plate to serve: iPad, iPhone, iPod, Apple TV, iTunes (Radio), App Store and new Apple apps for mobile...

So why would they try to squeeze their MacBooks in there? It makes more sense to wait for Mavericks to be stable (which it isn't!) and announce new Macs alongside Mavericks. Otherwise what will they say at the October event? "Oh hey, we made a new OS, and we are holding an event only to announce this OS"?

Seriously?

Very rarely do they release during the back to school promos. That's intentional. The back to school promo is to dump stock of the old model.

Agreed. Besides, what most people are really after are the education discounts which are available all year round.

Maybe some of us just don't wanna accept that we'll have to be waiting for another month. :p

I can't answer that, but the hackintosh community (they build desktops and then get OS X to run on them) is calling 10.8.5 the Haswell support upgrade (MBA's have a custom version of 10.8.4 that isn't available otherwise).

If that's true it definitely implies something. Why release an update for ML with support for Haswell if you intend to ship your next line of MBPs with Mavericks, as the October option would imply?

I suppose it could be intended primarily for the Airs, or Mavericks may end up being delayed beyond the MBP release.

I used to be highly involved with this community, where are they talking about this haswell support? And it is probably just intended for the airs.

I think it's Intel fault. Here in Germany there is no Haswell based notebook with a 4750, 4850 or 4950HQ CPU ready for shipment. They launched the HQ CPUs on paper but not in real life..

I actually just found a few comments by searching for "10.8.5 Haswell" and "10.8.5 Haswell hackintosh." I only found a few scattered notes, but the ones I did see suggested that 10.8.5 had kernel changes specifically for Haswell.

I also found this: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_...mited-802.11ac-wi-fi-speeds-among-other-bugs/

And you're most likely right, these inclusions are probably just there because obviously the Air needs this support. I just think the timing is interesting; releasing an update for 10.8 just a month or two before the expected Mavericks release. Let's put it this way: It sounds like 10.8.5 could theoretically run on a new Haswell MBP if it needed to.

The wireless fix also caught my attention because the Air has already had one update (a driver/firmware update for the Air only) and such a wireless fix could easily be pushed to the Airs right now without a full ML update.

I logically know that I'm almost certainly wrong, but I still can't help feeling like this is prep work for a pre-Mavericks MBP refresh. Whether that means a September refresh or that Mavericks isn't going to be released in time for an October refresh is another story.

I suppose a question to ask would be: Is it common for a previous OS version to receive an update right before/at the same time as a new major version release? I can see an update like 10.8.5 coming together as the developers integrate bug fixes from 10.9 back into 10.8.

I have posted this before,

but I am posting it again.

this post on MR :
https://www.macrumors.com/2013/09/0...cords-hint-at-refreshed-apple-tv-coming-soon/

mentions that apple received some shipments labeled "set top box" but they also just received a shipment labeled "PC Portable"

to me that could only mean that they just got a restocking of MBA from a new manufacturer, or they received some new rMBPs. Am I understanding this right? what could that mean?

That combined with 10.8.5 support for Haswell and faster wifi does make me wonder.

I don't think it would be impossible for a rMPB to launch on Tuesday on 10.8.5.... and then 2 months later have the mac event to launch Mac Pro, iMac, Mac Mini, the other rMBP, and mavericks.

I know this is wishful thinking, realistically, all signs say no to a rMBP on tuesday

I don't think a September launch is that unlikely. Apple generally don't have an issue of releasing a new model before an OS launch. The 2011 iMac was released in May, Lion in the July. (I believe that was the introduction of Sandy Bridge)

The 2012 MBP's which saw the move to Ivy Bridge were released in the June, Mountain lion released in the July.

Just because they haven't released Mavericks, doesn't mean they won't release the spec bump. They'll release it a. After the back to school offer and b. When it's ready.

Sorry if it's all been said before but thought I would weigh in.

Yeah, that caught my attention too. Airs probably are the most likely option, but still interesting. I don't think "PC Portable" could refer to anything aside from laptops.

I know that if I had a say in it I'd launch now if it were physically possible (no supply shortages). I can't understate how negative the responses to the upcoming event will be if Apple doesn't have any surprises... the response to the iP5 launch was a collective "meh" and that was an impressive device (IMO). I suppose it might be a different story if the 5S is going to continue the battery life improvement theme somehow(?).

Waiting for Mavericks or TB2 both seem like poor choices right now, though I'm sure some will disagree.

I don't feel like there's any harm in us engaging in this kind of speculation in this thread since, at the moment, there's literally nothing else to discuss on this topic (aside from endless questions about whether or not it's a good idea to wait).

Just FYI: No MBP was ever released in september.

I'm well aware of that. Like I said this is all extremely unlikely speculation (literally the only thing to discuss in this thread right now). I also would take that as an excellent reason to release in September. No one's impressed with Apple predictable pretend secrecy anymore, and it's making these big media events look silly when we already know what's going to happen.

Means nothing.

and what about toilet paper, I would assume that it would mean apple is getting more toilet paper for their facilities......

If I had to place money on it, I would say the MBPs are coming in Oct/Nov. I was just trying to get other people's opinions what that shipment could be

Well Apple sells portable PCs and set top boxes, so I'm not surprised that they receive shipments labeled as such. However the article seems to imply that the shipments indicate new products. So I was wondering, if there was a shipment of toilet paper, would there be speculation about iWipes?

Oh and I do believe that Apple puts some thought in the timing of their products, beyond the "it's ready now" criterion. Early September is not very good for MBPs, since they would want to wait until two weeks after the BTS sale is over. And I would guess that late October (where many releases have happened in the past) is not so bad for the holiday shopping season. Since the MBP is a rather expensive product, it gives customers some time to plan and also some time for reviews to arrive.

I am seeing this completely backwards,

why would they have to wait 2 weeks for the back to school sale to be over?
that ends tomorrow!

I also believe apple puts timing into their products, I think September would be a great time for them to release the rMBP.

However I do not see it being released because it is not ready yet, since supply of haswell chips, TB2, 10.9 etc

Who says it isn't ready yet? Haswell chips are there. TB2 is there if they want to include it. Apple wouldn't wait until Mavericks to release a new rMBP.

They will release it when it is ready, but none of those above factors are a factor anymore. I don't believe it was ready in the past few months, but now? Definitely. It's just a matter of getting the shipments in.

well that is good to hear,

I didn't think bulk supply of haswell chips were ready yet, because no other notebooks are currently available with the 4258U and 4288U, and I thought I saw a post on MR that the chips wouldn't be available until late october, unless apple has special powers with Intel.

And I know nothing about TB2, people on this thread just keep saying that TB2 wont be ready until later,

and I agree that they don't need to wait for Mavericks, I was just throwing that in there
