The Quadro is just a "workstation" version of the Geforce, just like the FirePro vs the Radeons. What he was trying to say is: "Which model of Quadro are you talking about?" Without knowing which model they're including, you can't know where it's going to fall. It'd be like Apple telling us that the next Macbook will have "Intel HD" graphics: well, which one?

Thanks for the clarification - I suppose I was thinking of the different series with respect to each other - I realize that each series has multiple numbering/performance designations.

This is excruciating. I've got the money to go for a Macbook Pro - and have been in and out of the online store continually for the last few nights. I must have spent about 2 hours online pricing up various configurations, and even added one to my basket but just can't go through to checkout knowing a new one could get announced next week or in the coming days at least.. just knowing the iGPU will get an upgrade, the CPU and most likely the SSD (to the faster PCIe based storage) is just stopping me from clicking buy.

I think if they don't announce anything (even if the ship date is a month away) I'll place an order after the event.

Are you trying to be a jack--? Or was my question that idiotic? Aren't there comparisons of gpu series out there?

If you didn't mean any offense, none taken.

I didn't really mean any offence, even though your question was indeed quite, as you put it, "idiotic" :)

Come to think of it, October would work out pretty well. That's when the Discover 5% Cashback Bonus for "online shopping" starts. Also, I'm pretty sure Apple also provides another 5% cash back if you go to their site via Discover's, which means it'll come out to 10% off. It'll pay for sales tax, at least.

Actually, 5% off something already with 5% discount would be 9.75% discount :D

Which is close enough to 10%. :D

I think it's additive actually, because it's not really a discount—it goes into your cash back allowance. So you get 5% for the ShopDiscover thing and 5% for the online shopping, both based on the purchase price.

But! Online shopping only applies to the first $1500. It's still $75, but on a $2500 purchase that comes out to 8%. I probably will wait until the 1st just for that, even if they're released on the 10th. Not worth $25/week to get it 3 weeks early. And I'm not thinking I'll get to the $1500 cap otherwise.

Just FYI for anyone curious, I did confirm with a Discover rep that the discounts are stacked. You do still get the online shopping even when you use ShopDiscover.

Last but not least, if you don't have a cashback card and could benefit from the cash back on your future rMBP/other Apple purchase, you get a $75 Amazon gift card if you apply for the Discover via Amazon ($50 for the student card).

Maybe Discover should send the three of us some cash for the free publicity ;).

I would just wait the extra money if I were you, if they don't come out next week. I've been waiting all summer, no way am I going to give up now.

Thought I'd post this here as an industry benchmark, seeming that the thread is getting quiet :p

ZenbookUX301.jpg

Both guesstimated priced at ~$1,000-$1,500 USD
The UX301

  • Iris Graphics 5100
  • 4GB or 8GB RAM
  • 512GB SSD
  • 802.11ac with Bluetooth 4.0
  • 50Wh battery - no ASUS benchmarks

The UX302
  • 13.3", 1.5kg (3.3 lbs)
  • 1920 x 1080 IPS
  • i5-4200U or i7-4500U
  • 15W TDP Haswell

I really like that UX301. If I were in the market for a Windows laptop right now, I would seriously be considering that one (though the Zenbook line has always been my favourite Windows laptop series).

Right now nothing is confirmed either way, but the signs aren't looking good for 10 September.

have always been a fan of asus since the W3J years ago. i know it might sound silly.. but even if all the specs, battery life, quality are all top notch... one thing that will still prevent me from switching back to a non-apple notebook... the magsafe. i can't go back to barrel style power plugs considering how many times the magsafe has saved my macbooks.. but it looks like lenovo is implementing something similar.. i don't think it's magnetic, but a new rectangle style (see that yellow input).. can't find much info on it right now tho:

oh wow. thanks for your post. i seriously thought i was the only person obsessing over the pending announcement. ive done similar things. convincing myself to get then to not get the 15 inch retina.

I decided that i'll get the new 13 inch retina whenever its released, but i'll most likely wait a month or so just to see bugs and/or any other issues ironed out first.

Being a fair bit of money to invest, the wiser my decision the better i will feel at the end of the day haha ;)

With the new 10.8.5 beta build out, shouldn't we expect to see plist references to new hardware if it is going to be announced on the 10th?

I can't answer that, but the hackintosh community (they build desktops and then get OS X to run on them) is calling 10.8.5 the Haswell support upgrade (MBA's have a custom version of 10.8.4 that isn't available otherwise).

If that's true it definitely implies something. Why release an update for ML with support for Haswell if you intend to ship your next line of MBPs with Mavericks, as the October option would imply?

I suppose it could be intended primarily for the Airs, or Mavericks may end up being delayed beyond the MBP release.

Why would 10.8.5 not support new Macs that are in the pipeline? At the very least, 10.8.5 must run on Haswell MBAs. At the time that decisions were made about which hardware to support in 10.8.5, no one at Apple could be certain that Mavericks would be ready to release at the same time as the next Macs.

Tell me about it...aaargh Apple. This is painful.

450 days sinse the release of the rMBP, the 15" that is. The Feb spec bump notwithstanding, 15" wise included a .1 unnoticeable overclocking bump, some still unexplained internal adjustments, and no price adjustment as opposed to the 13". We are so overdue for some Apple/Mac love.

In 2009 the 17" MacBook Pro that I own now was delayed 30 days due to some kind of manufacturing issue. I thought that 30 day wait was long :D

I look back now and think I had it lucky only waiting 30 days! I didn't know what waiting was until now!

Well the biggest problem for me is I've promised my current PC to a friend of mine who's out in the states, returning 1st October. He's split HIS PC and took the parts with him.. expecting me to be all sorted onto a shiny new MacBook by the time he gets back, so he can take my old PC off me :|

At this rate I'm going to have to temporarily resurrect my G5 2.5GHz Quad for a few weeks until the Haswell MBP's come out (assuming we have some concrete info by then that points to an early October release) as it's the only other thing I have around my house that I can use as a computer - I don't think my old Silicon Graphics boxes are quite up to the job! :|

Can we watch the conference (09/10/13) live on internet , and at what hour?

WWDC was this year, but some are questioning since this is at the Apple Campus whether or not it will. But at the least it will be live blogged. 1:00EST
