Solid iPhone conference.

Unfortunately no new Macbook Pros or anything else for that matter.

Hopefully Apple can be just as impressive come next month for Macbook Pro. Also, judging by the new iPhones, another new feature we should see on the rMBP is a new FaceTime HD Camera.

So the givens are: Haswell, AC WiFi, new 720p FaceTime Camera, Battery Increase

Edit: Despite 'a new FaceTime Camera' announced, the specs still show a 720p Camera (not 1080p)

This is completely off topic, but since we have nothing else to discuss for now...

Have we noticed that there's no pre-order for the 5S? You can order it online the same day it releases in stores. Apple clearly wants a return to the huge crowds, since many of us had gotten wise to the fact that you could preorder the device and have it arrive on launch day without having to wait in line.

That's it! I had enough! 2013 model, here i come!

And they call that phone cheap? Cheap?!?! 550$ when the 5s is 650$? Cheap?

I'm so angry right now!

Anyone else not care a tiny bit about anything said at this event?

... cause I certainly didn't.

I didn't think I would when it came to the phones, but I was impressed. I think I'll actually attempt to get a 5S in the next month or two.

I was certainly disappointed at no news about Mac updates. I was on the fence between a rMBP and an iMac. I think I'll just get an rMBP since I'd like something around when school starts.

they do have the february upgraded version of the 15" rmbp refurbished on the apple store.

2.8 quad core
768gb ssd

all for a whopping 2929...(before I add a superdrive, minidisplay to vga)

as a student, applecare is also 239 instead of 350 :)

wondering if I should bite... also wonder by how much the price would drop or if the newer rmbp will be around the same price for the same specs.

3449 refurb with accessories compared to 4029 new. both after tax(VA)

Was watching the CNET stream ...
"good enough" (and nothing more) is the quote of the day (the talk was about people stuck in Apple's ecosystem and what Apple has to do to keep them in there...).

I was expecting a "budget" iPhone that would bring Apple into emerging markets. What I got was a Malibu Stacy with a new hat.

LOL. The 5C just isn't inexpensive enough. $100 less doesn't even make sense. The past procedure was to make last year's phone $100 cheaper anyway. What's really the difference here? Weird.

I have no idea why they spent the time and money to develop the iPhone 5C. I said it months ago and now it's a reality. I can't wait for the tear down and BOM for the hardware.

I need to replace both my MBP and my old Iphone4 so today's news was at least 50% good for me, although I wish they were doing pre-orders for the 5s.

I also have a 4, but I replaced the battery for $30 a couple weeks ago in order to keep it usable until the 6 arrives next year -- I'm betting on a larger screen, and don't want to waste my AT&T contract renewal discount on a 5S.

In the US it may be successful due to the lower on contract pricing (because people here still don't know how much their phones actually cost). But what about everywhere else where they buy their phones outright? You might as well pay that extra bit to get way better hardware. The 5C was not at all what I was expecting it to be (in terms of pricing and position in Apple's product lineup).

Bigger margins for Apple as the plastic is cheaper to produce.

It is strange Apple would do preorders for the 5C but not the 5S. Maybe they want to have lines at their stores. On the past couple of launch days you could walk into any Apple store or carrier store and just buy one. Not now.

Maybe they figure the 5C won't sell as well and want it up for preorder for people who just can't wait. Who knows?

Now we just have to wonder if it will be early or late October

I think it's definitely to encourage launch day lines.

In a lot of places, that $100 is critical. Having the 5C at a minimum brings the iPhone into the reach of a considerably larger chunk of the market. It may still be too high for the people in very poor areas, but there are a lot of in-betweens that will go for it since it is "more" affordable, i.e., "just within reach."

And the difference is more striking when you compare the base 5C prices to the 5 or 5S prices.
